Abstract

The Spanish-North American war meant for the United States the adoption of a new international policy, greater involvement on the world stage and the consolidation of its interests in the Caribbean, the Pacific and the Far East. This article analyses the international constraints surrounding the war. Explore William McKinley's foreign policy, highlighting the various political, economic and ideological factors that, in 1898, prompted the US to expand beyond its continental borders. War in Cuba is linked to war in the Philippines.
