El ocaso del otro como episodio cultural: el curso antropológico de la alteridad

Abstract

El curso histórico de la alteridad deja ver el auge y el declive de una serie dediscursos ideológicos, político-jurídicos estructurados en torno a la dicotomíanosotros/ los otros. En su interior, es posible distinguir, a su vez, una otredad fun-cional (del bárbaro al hereje) caracterizada por desempeñar un papel en el relatode la identidad, y una otredad en sentido fuerte ocupada hoy por los «sin papeles»y los pueblos indígenas. Este trabajo reflexiona sobre unas y otras, a la vez queanaliza ese proceso dinámico como una serie de sustituciones, (del discurso deraza por el culturalista y luego del rasgo cultural en la acepción descriptiva oantropológica del término) en la formación de la alteridad a favor del componenteeconómico de estatus propio de la fase de capitalismo global por la cual el otro –primero étnico y luego cultural– paradigmáticamente el indígena se reinterpretaen términos de marginalidad y «cuarto mundo»: un corolario de la desaparicióndel objeto de la antropología que coincide con la crisis del discurso de la multi-culturalidad, la debilidad de los organismos supraestatales y la aparición de unnuevo escenario de problemas ecológicos globales cuyas consecuencias no cono-cemos del todo bien. ; The historical course of otherness reveals the rise and decline of theideological, political-legal discourses structured around the dichotomy of us / theothers. Inside, it is possible to distinguish, a functional otherness (from thebarbarian to the heretic) characterized by playing a role in the narrative of identity,and an otherness in a strong sense occupied by the «paperless» and by the indigenous people. This work reflects on each other, while analyzing this dynamicprocess as a series of substitutions, (from the discourse of race by the culturalistand then the cultural trait in the descriptive or anthropological meaning of theterm) in the formation of alterity in favor of the economic status component ofthe phase of global capitalism by which the other –first ethnic and then culturally–paradigmatically the indigenous is reinterpreted in terms of marginality and«fourth world»: a corollary of the disappearance of the object of anthropologythat coincides with the multicultural discourse crisis, the weakness of supra-stateorganisms and the emergence of a new scenario of global ecological problemswhose consequences we do not know quite well.
