Indian Ocean Zone of Peace: Need for a new approach

Abstract

After tracing the history of the proposal for an Indian Ocean Zone of Peace (IOZP), the author discusses the initiatives of Sri Lanka to promote the idea of IOZP, the new geo-strategic environment in the Indian Ocean as a result of the disintegration of the USSR and the end of the Cold War and the need for a fresh approach to IOZP.
