Abstract

Never since the Second World War have there been any serious political conflicts between the Republic of China (ROC) and Austria. However their mutual relations became strained when, in 1971, Austria decided to recognize the PRC. Since then, from 1972 onwards, a gradual improvement has taken place so that relations have now reached a stage at which the ROC might think of some changes in her policy towards Austria. The article explores the background of Austria's diplomatic recognition of the PRC and Austria's relations with the ROC
