Abstract
The study assesses regional and local security implications for South Korea if it were to participate in the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) of the USA. What are the anticipated action-reaction mechanisms between the two super-powers over the SDI issues likely to mean for the future of regional stability in Northeast Asia? What are the prospects for Korean peace and security, particularly if South Korea and Japan simultaneously participate in the SDI programme? These questions are particularly addressed in this paper. European, Asian and South Korean views of the SDI. (DÜI-Sen)
