Abstract

Innovation and Adaptation in Higher Education examines the recent changes in teaching and learning in European higher education systems. The 1970s and 1980s were periods of major structural reforms and functional change for higher education throughout Europe, which have been followed by a focus on the internal structures of institutions and the organisation of teaching and learning. The book describes the changes in each major European Contry and their implications for the practice of higher education. The contributors also explore the issue of institutional vulnerability to state interference, and analyse the pressures that have accumulated for university staff, and the effects of those pressures on research and teaching.
