Abstract

Discusses the attention paid by Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels in their Communist Manifesto (1848) to the issue of internationalism & the assertion that economic inequality is the product of properly functioning systems. It is contended that internationalism is not the result of a given political ideology; rather, it is embedded in the conditions & existence of different countries. Moreover, the Communist Manifesto contains a contradictory interpretation of internationalism. Current theories of the effects of globalization on national economies are discussed, & it is asserted that an institutional framework capable of administrating the global economy has emerged within national territories. Consequently, many states are responsible for the development of the global economic system & the denationalization of national institutional systems. The ability of individuals to challenge globalization is associated with the Communist Manifesto's treatment of internationalism. J. W. Parker
