Introduccion. El proceso electoral: precampanas, campanas y resultado
In: Política y gobierno, S. 5-39
Abstract
The editor of this thematic journal volume notes that after the traumatic election of 1988, Mexico initiated a transformation of the extant electoral instruments & institutions, which resulted in a system that is costly, but secure & reliable. In the election of 2006, this system passed its most difficult test when the candidate of the governing party, Felipe Calderon, defeated his closest opponent, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, by only 233,831 votes, 0.56% of the total votes cast. The loser contested the results, charging fraud before the Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federacion. Calderons victory was, however, upheld by the Tribunal. The following nine articles discuss the party campaigns, events that preceded them, the electoral process, & the aftermath. Adapted from the source document.
