Abstract
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has produced a number of deep & maybe enduring results on both the space & societies of the three nations involved -- impacts that go well beyond the merely commercial domain. However, in the US, as well as in Canada & Mexico, numerous criticisms against the integration process are still being voiced, in addition to wariness expressed in the political field. Regarding the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (VFAA), to come into force by 2005, the situation is analogous. Indeed, if the negotiation process is completed by then, we can anticipate the deep implications it will have on every nation of the hemisphere, & also the criticisms & suspicions that will continue to be expressed in the three NAFTA countries & elsewhere in the continent. This work is intended to survey some geopolitical issues concerning regional integration in the Americas & to assess the difficulties of such a project. Adapted from the source document.
