National Identity and Image of World Society: The Polish Case
In: International social science journal: ISSJ, Band 34, Heft 1, S. 93-112
Abstract
The impact of a national identity crisis on economic & political events in Poland is discussed from a global systems perspective. The influence of evolutionary theory in Polish conceptions of the nation is documented, & the crisis potential of moral development & national transition is examined with reference to the theories of Jurgen Habermas. Historical manifestations of these processes are summarized, along with empirical data taken from contemporary attitude surveys; a recent trend toward positive national identification, one less determined by external events & East-West conflict than before, is identified. 1 Illustration, 1 Photograph.
