Abstract

After presenting a demographic account of the growth of the Chinese elderly population, the article explores the current retirement benefit system for the elderly, both in the private and public sectors. The potential problems facing the Chinese elderly in the future are discussed with special reference to the retired cadres. (DÜI-Sen)
