FLOORCASH-SocCit provides comprehensive computable data on entitlements to social cash transfers in the global South. The dataset covers 282 social cash transfer programmes in 148 countries and small territories, as of 2012/13. FLOORCASH-SocCit has been constructed in view of the sociological concept of social citizenship, focusing on entitlements to social cash transfers rather than welfare outcomes. FLOORCASH-SocCit emphasises three aspects: inclusion of social groups (with more refined data than earlier studies), conditions of access to benefits, and institutionalization of the programmes. FLOORCASH-SocCit can be used for studies with different units of analysis (programmes, target categories, countries).

Social science and genetic science still have fairly little engagement with one another, but the continued swift development of genetic science has certainly gained social scientists' attention. First, some social scientists are incorporating techniques from quantitative and molecular genetics into their work. Genetic data are increasingly recognized as providing valuable leverage even for research animated by strict interest in social environmental causes. Second, social scientists have been interested in understanding aspects of genetic science as a social phenomenon. This literature identifies possible noxious effects of uncritical public acceptance of genetic science, although how consistent these speculations are with public opinion and other available data is less clear. Because public understanding of genetics can influence behavior and social policies in ways that affect the ultimate causal potency of genes themselves, adequately theorizing genes as causes requires integration of these two lines of inquiry.

This article analyses moral dilemmas around aspects of care from gender and class perspectives. Based on quantitative data and qualitative research for the surrounding area of Buenos Aires, we probe how contemporary women and men in Argentina organise, experience and perceive the relationship between working life and their responsibilities for caring for family members. A situated ethics of care, as explored in the article, reinforces the notion that care is always contextual – it can only be understood within a social and political milieu – and presents distinctions among subjects that hold unequal positions in class and gender hierarchies.

The measure of the development of man regarding the level of the social conditions necessary for his existence and welfare, and the corresponding faculties and skills of man himself is on principle the social progress. That is why the results of the scientific and technical revolution, its social consequences and the advantages and possibilities of a socialist social formation have to be represented from the aspect of social progress. The author investigates the characteristic fea tures of the influence of social progress on sport and the interactions between sport and society, which become apparent from this point of view. On the basis of the Marxian-Leninist theory of culture and sport, he tries to fix some tenden cies of the further development.

The gender digital divide is a well-known research and policy topic. Policy discourses emphasise the inclusion aspect focusing on equal opportunities and economic empowerment. Critical analyses of the inclusion narrative stress its universalist and normative perspective which implicitly excludes and determines what gender technology inclusion means. This contribution focuses on an alternative perspective developed in Latin America: appropriation of technologies. This approach foregrounds the socio-cultural and economic inequalities present in the Global South. Based on a case study of a transfeminist IT community from Argentina, this paper analyses the transformative aspects of this collective's imaginary and practices. It argues that this approach is relevant to other Global South contexts where similar communities exist and provides us with a better understanding of possibilities and limits of inclusion in the digital technologies sector.

Working with children in foster care is a demanding and rigorous aspect of social work practice. Often difficult decisions have to be made and for students and practitioners alike, there is a vast array of legislation, law and social policy to understand. This book will help social workers and social work students get to grips with the complexity of foster care. The child is placed at the heart of the text and there are substantial chapters on law, policy frameworks and the overreaching theoretical and research evidence to support good practice.

Written by a team of leading international experts on sport management and sport in society, the book explores important topics such as: - Corporate social responsibility in sport - Race - Gender and sexuality - Sport and the media - Globalisation - Politics and policy - Social class, social capital and social exclusion Each issue is examined from the perspective of the manager or practitioner in sport, and each chapter includes a range of useful features, such as case-studies and self-test questions, to encourage the reader to think critically about the role of sport in society and about their own professional practice. This is the first sports management textbook to be based on the assumption that a more socially aware manager is a more effective manager and it should be essential reading for all sport management students"--
