INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THROUGH THE PRISM OF A SYSTEMS APPROACH ; МІЖНАРОДНІ ВІДНОСИНИ КРІЗЬ ПРИЗМУ СИСТЕМНОГО ПІДХОДУ
The article examines the specifics of a systematic approach to the analysis of international relations, which is important for understanding the basic patterns of their development. A brief description of the different approaches to the definition of «system», «systematics in international relations», «international relations» is given. Systematic analysis of international relations is usually applied to a certain period in history, when the most pronounced tendency to self-organization of international life. It is noted that differences in understanding the specifics of international relations and, accordingly, the peculiarities of international systems contribute to the emergence of different approaches to their study. The article, in particular, analyzes the typology of international systems according to M. Kaplan. The scientist singled out different types of political behavior of states in the field of international relations: balance of power system, loose bipolar system, tight bipolar system, universal system, hierarchical system, unit veto system. Thanks to the work "System and Process in International Politics" M. Kaplan became one of the first scientists who drew attention to the importance and necessity of a systematic approach to the study of international relations. Because a systematic approach allows us to study the history of international relations as a single process, which is characterized by specific features, patterns, internal logic. In addition, the article presents the classifications of international systems and the criteria for distinguishing their main stages, proposed by other researchers.

The Breakdown of International Negotiations: Social Conflicts, Audience Costs, and Reputation in Two-Level Games
In: International negotiation: a journal of theory and practice, Band 21, Heft 3, S. 495-520
ISSN: 1571-8069
This article examines whether the two-level game can theoretically explain negotiation breakdowns without referring to uncertainty alone. For this purpose, social conflicts are integrated in the two-level game. In this light, the classical hypothesis that smaller win-sets increase the risk of a negotiation breakdown can no longer be maintained. Instead, conflict intensity – and thereby the risk of breakdown – correlates with the intersection of the win-sets in the form of an inverted U-curve. It follows that negotiations are most likely to break down when the intersection of the win-sets is perceived as medium-sized, because the bargaining space and thereby the potential of conflict intensity is largest/highest. Furthermore, the insertion of social conflicts into the equation runs counter to the hypothesis that issue linkages facilitate international cooperation. On the contrary, issue linkages increase the risk that goal conflicts, in particular, intensify each other by spreading from one issue to another.

THE COMMON EUROPEAN SALES LAW, CONSUMER PROTECTION AND OVERRIDING MANDATORY PROVISIONS IN PRIVATE INTERNATIONAL LAW
In: The international & comparative law quarterly: ICLQ, Band 62, Heft 2, S. 463-483
ISSN: 1471-6895
AbstractThis article analyses the relationship of the proposed Common European Sales Law (CESL) and the rules on mandatory and overriding provisions in private international law. The author argues that the CESL will not achieve its stated aim of taking precedence over these provisions of national law and therefore not lead to an increase in cross-border trade. It is pointed out how slight changes in drafting can overcome the collision with mandatory provisions. The clash with overriding mandatory provisions, the author argues, should be taken as an opportunity to rethink the definition of these provisions.
The expatriate experience: the factors of international assignment success ; Ekspatrianto patirtis: tarptautinio paskyrimo sėkmės veiksniai
This article analyzes the factors of expatriate international assignment success: the process, empirical level, the experience of expatriates on a national level. Theoretical and empirical analysis reveals that success depends mostly on the candidates selected, their motivation, ability to adjust to change, wish to improve, ability to adjust to a new environment, effectively act in order to achieve goals, the situation of an employee's family. The results of the research carried out showed that one of most complex stages of the expatriation process is the adjustment of expatriates during international assignment which has significant impact on international assignment success and satisfaction of individual expectations or various failures and emergence of individual problems. It has been proved that the success of the adjustment stage and the entire expatriation process is mostly influenced by the personal strengths of employees, their professional, social, adjustment skills, international experience and a favorable situation of their families
