This book is the product of a joint research program between the Institute of West Asia & African Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing and the Energy Program Asia of the International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden University. China?s transition to an urban-industrial society relies on its abundant domestic coal supplies, and on an increase in oil and gas imports. However, authorities are confronted with trade-offs between investments in expanding supplies of fossils, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and in clean energy. Resources spent on expanding imported energy have to weighted against clean energy investments and improving efficiency of the fossil-fuel sector. The same is no less true for the European Union and its member states. Import dependency on piped gas is again growing. Security of supply of natural gas depends on political cooperation with energy-rich countries. At the same the EU has to meet its clean energy commitments by compromises between member states and ?Brussels?. Chinese National Oil Companies bridge the worlds of government in China and the extractive sector in hydrocarbon exporting-countries. At the global level, Chinese (Trans-)National Oil Companies maintain competitive and cooperative relations with privately owned International Oil companies. This book focuses, among others, on these networks with the objective to contribute to the study of the geopolitical economy of the energy sectors in the global system.

"Examining the role of the CJEU in shaping the European Union as a Normative power, this book explores the influence of the Court of Justice of the European Union on Normative Power Europe to evaluate the extent to which the CJEU's actions consolidate normative foreign policy in third states. Combining perspectives from international relations and law, it explores the EU's normative impact in the international arena, offering a multidimensional view which characterizes the power of the EU as a normative power while examining its role as a regulatory power alongside a historical review of the legal doctrinal development of the CJEU. Distilling the EU's uniqueness in the international arena and emphasizing that its fundamental strength lies in the technical normative power approach, the book argues that the genuine EU impact is emphasized in unique sectoral niches noting the EU's dominance in terms of agriculture, environmental protection, privacy, and data protection or tech policies- a classic technical normative power that combines a legal basis and a value base. In this study, investment incentive policies and investment promotion tools employed in the European Union and other selected world countries such as the USA, China, Japan, Russia and South Korea were examined. Firstly, place of the incentive policy recognized throughout the European Union within the Union's legislation is given. In addition, investment promotion tools of each EU member state have been tabulated in a collective manner. After explaining investment incentives employed in the European Union each country stated above were discussed upon one by one. Investment promotion policies and tools applied in these countries were given to underline importance given by those countries to investment.
