Primary school children participating as researchers has become a moral obligation to meet the goal of children's participation rights. Yet, critical voices rarely question the ethical and practical implications of turning young children into mini-clones of adult researchers. While enabling and constraining aspects of participatory methods and inherent power issues per se are widely discussed, adult researchers still seem to struggle to critically engage with celebratory accounts of children as researchers. In particular, the practical obligations, ethical challenges and tensions that impact on primary school children's research experiences, are underexplored. Findings from two projects on play, which engaged children as active researchers, suggest that more attention needs to be paid to the messy realities of becoming and being a child researcher. In particular, researchers should be more attuned to children's capabilities and the ethical hurdles for child and adult researchers. This article argues therefore for a more dynamic, meaningful and realistic model of participation, that speaks to the messy realities of becoming and being a child-researcher. In other words, the article questions the dominant orthodoxy of children as researchers as the "gold standard" of participatory research with children.

AbstractChildren's foster care is practised and studied in many parts of the world, but little attention is paid to foster parents' birth children, despite their right to participate in a process that concerns their lives and despite the role they play in foster care. Drawing on qualitative data collected from 15 foster siblings and 14 foster parents, this paper presents birth children's experiences with the beginning of foster care, their perceptions of the positive and negative aspects of living with a foster child, and their suggestions for foster parents, foster children, and professionals. The data reveal that birth children feel engaged in a caregiver role; therefore, they need guidance with regard to this role. However, social workers and other professionals do not appear to fully recognize this role. Implications for practice are discussed.

El objetivo de esta investigación es examinar desde una perspectiva ecológica la salud mental de los adolescentes desplazados por la violencia política en Colombia. Se tomó como base el modelo ecológico integrado del impacto del trauma de Elbedour, ten Bensel y Bastien (1993), que estipula la influencia combinada de diferentes niveles de factores unidos a la experiencia traumática, factores individuales y factores proximales que vienen de la familia, y de los factores sociales de la red social familiar. El estudio se realizó con 98 jóvenes en edades entre los 9 a 16 años (M= 12.5 años, dt= 2.18), habitantes de las afueras de Barranquilla, de los cuales 48 son desplazados por la violencia (26 de sexo masculino, 22 de sexo femenino) y 50 son sedentarios pobres (26 de sexo masculino, 24 de sexo femenino). Los cuestionarios se escogieron en función de su utilización en contextos de pobreza y/o violencia (Macksoud, 1992; Macksoud & Aber, 1996; Macksoud, Aber, Dyregrov & Raundalen, 1990). Los resultados muestran que los adolescentes desplazados son más deprimidos y ansiosos que sus pares sedentarios. La ansiedad está unida al número total de eventos traumáticos, mientras que la depresión se explica más bien por la separación de los padres. Las competencias sociales y el ambiente social actúan como factores protectores. Entre los factores del ambiente social se observa el hecho de vivir en una familia extensa y de inscribirse en una red social que incluye a los amigos de la familia. Two groups of young adolescents participated in this study, 48 were displaced by political violence (26 boys and 22 girls), 50 sedentary adolescents lived in extremely poor suburb of Barranquilla (26 boys and 24 girls). The mean age is 12.5 years old (sd= 2.18; min = 9; max = 16). Questionnaires have been chosen with regards to their use in a context of poverty and/or violence (Macksoud, 1992; Macksoud& Aber, 1996; Macksoud, Aber, Dyregrov, & Raundalen, 1990). Results show that displaced adolescents are more depressed and anxious than their sedentary peers. Anxiety is explained by the total indices of trauma events while depression is rather explained by the separation from parents. Social competencies and social environment appear as protective factors. Among the social factors, one finds the extended family unit and the inclusion of friends within the social network of the family. Overall, the family and the preservation of the family unit appear as crucial factors of mental health.

"In this study we investigate how outcome valence affects the importance of self-interest and fairness in ultimatum bargaining. In three experiments we systematically study the effect of outcome valence on fairness accessibility, norms, and behavior. Results on all three aspects show strong evidence for the hypothesis that fairness becomes more important and self-interest becomes less important in negative valence bargaining. Fairness accessibility was higher when bargaining involved negative payoffs than when it involved positive payoffs (Experiment 1), the fairness norm was stronger in negatively versus positively valenced bargaining when an identical unequal offer benefiting the allocators was evaluated (Experiment 2), and allocators allocated more to recipients in negative valence bargaining than in positive valence bargaining (Experiment 3). Résumé L'auteur s'interroge sur la pertinence de la notion de réseau en tant que forme d'organisation sociale adaptée à la production de recherches de haut niveau. Cette métaphore a beaucoup de succès auprès des chercheurs en sciences sociales et des responsables des équipes de recherche, car elle évoque à leurs yeux tout ce qu'il peut y avoir d'organique, de flexible et de libératoire dans la communication et la philosophie du langage. L'auteur s'élève contre cette idée reçue, montrant en particulier que si la philosophie de Wittgenstein s'inspire effectivement des valeurs que les partisans de la mise en réseau des chercheurs font profession d'admirer, ils ont tort de se réclamer de son autorité pour justifier l'emploi qu'ils en font. S'ils s'imaginent pouvoir le faire, c'est qu'ils n'ont pas prêté suffisamment attention à certains aspects du développement de ses idées sur le langage, et en particulier à son anti-scientisme virulent. La conclusion est qu'à trop filer la métaphore, on finit par en occulter les limites.

The performance of drama bangsawan not only carries social, economic, and political missions. The role of drama bangsawan is increasingly important and strategic in organizing the life of the nation, state, and society. In addition to playing a role to explore the cultural and artistic values that we have, royal drama can also play a role in encouraging the realization of complete human development, which also means not only teaching material/physical, but also very useful to order the mental and spiritual of every human being. This paper presents the syntactic aspects of the drama bangsawan in North Sumatra. The syntactic aspect which is part of Charles Morris's semiotic theory explores the nature and pattern of stories of aristocratic plays. This review succeeded in discovering the existence of the aristocratic theater in North Sumatra and its shape patterns. This folk theater originally took place among the aristocrats in the Serdang Sultanate and eventually became the property of most people. The aristocratic form or concept of the show was maintained even though it was no longer played at the Palace, as the palaces in the former North Sumatra Residency after the Social Revolution collapsed. This theater should be inherited as a non-fine cultural form belonging to North Sumatra.

Gender discrimination in various aspects of social life results in different outcomes between men and women. Differences in treatment, norms, and views that are formed in society between men and women have an impact on various things in life. The younger generation has different desires and expectations from decade to decade because the development of society demands dynamic patterns of thinking and acting. As objects, they still need coaching and development toward growing potential and ability to an optimal level; they are not yet independent.Operational Definition The variable used in this study is students' perceptions of male-female equal partnerships, which means that students' opinions about harmonious conditions between men and women are manifested through the pattern of attitudes and behavior between men and women who care, respect, value and help each other so that between men and women can work together as equal partners by using questionnaires in ordinal measurement data and a Likert scale. The indicators used are a gender analysis framework.For women, there is no difference in perceptions of equal partnerships between 2012 and 2022, which means that women's perceptions are consistent about equal partnerships in terms of a gender analysis framework. Men and women have the same position, rights, obligations, and opportunities to play a role in all aspects of life. In men, there are differences in perceptions of equal partnerships between 2012 and 2022. It means that in terms of the gender analysis framework, men's perceptions of equal partnerships between 2012 and 2022 have experienced positive and significant changes.
