Raving Society. Anmerkungen zur Technoszene

Evaluates the technomusic "rave" scene in contemporary Germany as a subversive youth culture, & finds it to be apolitical. It is argued that the rave is a primarily cultural event characterized by specific dance styles & its own print media. It uses music from the past, but does so in a non- or dehistorical way. The associated clothing is marked by pluralism, as is the rave scene itself, with all-night parties drawing a variety of youth, many members of other youth cultures or scenes. It is contended that this social phenomenon is a leisure culture with no real history, voice, or autonomous social or political demands. Adapted from the source document.
