16 p. ; La guerra de Malvinas es un tópico recurrente en las letras del heavy metal de nuestro país. Si bien no es el único estilo que aborda la temática -el rock (en sentido amplio) y el folclore aportaron al cancionero de los actos escolares sobre el 2 de abril-, la cuestión de Malvinas ocupa en el universo simbólico del metal de nuestro país un espacio protagónico que lo diferencia respecto de otros subgéneros del rock. A partir de lo señalado se nos plantea una serie de interrogantes: ¿por qué en la memoria narrativa del heavy metal argentino la temática de Malvinas prevalece como uno de sus tópicos centrales? ¿Qué rol juega el nacionalismo en ello? ¿Bajo qué formas estéticas y con qué sentidos aparece Malvinas en el universo del heavy nacional? ¿Existe al interior del campo analizado una memoria hegemónica respecto de Malvinas o se trata más bien de un territorio donde conviven narraciones diversas cuando no antagónicas? En la presente ponencia procuraremos dar cuenta de los interrogantes planteados a partir del análisis de un conjunto de materialidades que forman parte de lo que hemos denominado "heavy metal nacional". Recurriremos a la indagación de letras de canciones, videoclips y el film "El visitante". --

Il utilise pour cela des moyens que la science politique actuelle considère étrangers au monde politique. An analysis of Jacques-Louis David's art and politics before and during the French Revolution.

Algerian independence in 1962 sparked in that country a mass exodus of Biblical proportions of French Europeans. This paper purports to survey how Pieds-Noirs fare in French fiction literature today, that is a half century after these dramatic events. Despite Evelyne Sellés-Fischer's lament that children of Pieds-Noirs eschew any interest about the life their families led in French North Africa, in fiction literature the situation is totally different. French readers are spoilt for choice between sagas of Pieds-Noirs families, political novels, romans à these, memory novels, memoirs about the return to the land of birth and mention must be made of the plethora of autobiographical works by Pieds-Noirs. Perhaps the most remarkable of Pieds-Noirs authors of Maltese lineage is Pierre Dimech born in Algiers. The writings of Dimech bear witness to the resilience of an author who turned the trauma of 1962 into a blessing after his discovery of the land of birth of his ancestors, that is the Maltese islands. ; peer-reviewed

This dissertation examines political polarization during the Cold War and contributes to a deeper understanding of how societies descend from relative political stability and democratic process into widespread political violence. Although political structures, class conflict, and U.S.- Soviet competition fostered class-based divisions that set in motion a powerful process of political polarization in Chile, an explanation of political emotions is needed to elucidate why political conflict escalated to such extreme levels. This research explores, through an investigation of Chilean folk and popular music, the hypothesis that the Cold War comprised both political and emotionally-charged cultural fronts; while rightists embraced a national identity rooted in Chile's central valley huaso traditions, leftists embraced an identity that drew on traditions from Chile's outlying regions and other Latin American countries. By combining text-based analysis of lyrics and musical properties with analysis of print media and oral histories, this research utilizes music as a lens by which to reveal the historical development of national and transnational perspectives and identities that shaped social relationships and political interaction among rightists, leftists, and youth

This study analyzes the public debate surrounding the creation of the Peruvian Lugar de la Memoria (Place of Memory) through notions of memory, violence and representation. I argue that the Peruvian Place of Memory has successfully been framed, through a carefully constructed discourse, as a "memory" project that claims to present, not an "archeological", imposed, static final version of the past, but a plural, dynamic, inclusive account of a historical period of violence. This discursive achievement has allowed the project to advance in two fundamental ways. First, the Place of Memory has elicited political alliances that would have been impossible without a declared willingness to represent a plural vision of the past. Second, resonating with proposals that claim to represent national "memory", the Place of Memory aims to reconstruct the past in order to legitimize a present national project. Working toward that connection between past and present, the project has managed to discursively connect manifestations of extreme violence to less visible, underlying and persistent forms of structural violence. Despite these valuable achievements, the Peruvian Place of Memory has one central limitation that results from not recognizing that the positions of "who speaks" and "who is spoken of" overlap with positions in the larger distribution of power. Overlooking the project's, and its representatives', position within power relations may revert the advances made through the discourse, finally turning the Place of Memory into a version of the past, imposed by dominant classes, that perpetuates the structure of power that the project repudiates

Esta es la primera parte de una trilogía que cubrirá el periodo 1914-1938, del principio al final del conflicto entre la Iglesia y el Estado en el México revolucionario. Dicho conflicto llamó la atención y provocó cierta solidaridad por parte de los católicos estadounidenses, tanto de la jerarquía eclesiástica como de los laicos. Fue uno de los factores que intervinieron en las relaciones entre los dos países. Se presenta ahora la Iglesia católica en los Estados Unidos a principios del siglo XX y su reacción frente a la situación crítica hecha a la Iglesia católica en México entre 1914 y 1920. ; This is the first part of a trilogy that will treat the subject of the US Catholics' reaction to the conflict between Church and State in Mexico, during the revolutionary years 1914-1938 and their solidarity with their Mexican brothers. The governments' anticlericalism in Mexico deeply impressed the American Catholics, clergy and common people. It was an important factor in the international relations between both countries, as the US Catholics tried to influence the White House, State Department and Congress in favor of the Mexican Catholics. Here we present the situation of American Catholicism at the beginning of XXth century and its reaction to the Church's situation in Mexico in 1914-1920. ; Ce travail est la première partie d'une trilogie qui couvrira la période 1914-1918, du début jusqu'à la fin du conflit entre l'Eglise catholique et l' Etat dans le Mexique révolutionnaire. Ce conflit attira l'attention et provoqua la solidarité des catholiques américains, aussi bien de la hiérarchie épiscopale qui s'organise à cette époque, que des laïcs, notamment les 800.000 Knights of Columbus. Ce fut un des facteurs qui ont joué dans les relations entre le Mexique et les Etats-Unis tout au long de la période. Ce premier texte présente l'Eglise catholique américaine au début du XXeme siècle et sa réaction face à la difficile situation de son homologue mexicaine entre 1914 et 1920.
