Fanfiction is the creative appropriation and transformation of existing popular media texts by fans who take stories, worlds and/or characters as starting points and create their own stories based on them. As a cultural field of practice, fanfiction questions prevalent concepts of individual authorship and proprietary of cultural goods. At the same time, fanfiction itself is challenged. Through processes of mediatization, fanfiction grew and became increasingly visible. Third parties, ranging from the media industry (e.g., film studios) and copyright holders to journalism and academia, are interested in fanfiction and are following its development. We regard fanfiction communities and fan acting as fields for experimentation and as discursive arenas which can help understand what appropriating, writing and publishing in a digital culture and the future of writing might look like. In this paper, we outline important debates on the legitimacy and nature of fanfiction and present preliminary results of current research within Germany.
Boards of directors are sitting ducks. Shareholders complain and even attack, management manipulates, and individual board members have little power, able to act only as part of the board as a whole. Governance issues are front and center, yet there is often little understanding, even among board members, of the key role that they play. Written in an accessible and human voice, The Governance Revolution: What Every Board Member Needs to Know, NOW! provides information and context essential to anyone seeking to understand how corporations and their stewards--the board of directors--can and should function in the volatile world we inhabit. Deborah Hicks Midanek offers useful insight into what board members of corporations actually do, the current standards for board members and why they exist. She includes a timely discussion of how clarity of purpose can improve board and director effectiveness. Informed by her long experience serving public, private, and family owned corporate boards as well as those of charitable, and government organizations, she provides essential context regarding the evolution of board practice as well as candid discussion of the issues involved in the relentless effort to improve corporate governance processes. Focused mainly on the dominant public corporation, she also explores the special challenges of serving private and family owned as well as nonprofit and public agency boards. Written by a seasoned board member, and liberally laced with stories and cases illustrating the tricky issues directors wrestle with, this book is the essential common-sense companion for anyone working with a board, serving on a board, or wanting to do so. Directors, aspiring directors, investors, and students of corporate behavior will benefit from this highly readable description of the cloistered boardroom.
The results of the 16-year reacclimatization of wood bison in Central Yakutia are summed up. A description of the number, nutrition, territory development, reproduction and scientific and practical importance of bison introduction is given. The young growth started breeding at the age of 2-3 years, the first offspring at the age of 3-4 years. 15 generations of bison obtained. Replenishment of calves in relation to the main livestock at the beginning of the year ranged from 22 to 55%. The total number of wood bison reached 310 individuals. Adaptation to new living conditions is proceeding successfully. The natural and climatic conditions of Central Yakutia correspond to the ecological requirements of the species. The productivity of different grassland types was determined. A list of food plants for bison was established. The release of two batches of bison into the wild in the Sinyaya Nature Park in 2017 and 2018 gave positive results. It is shown that shallow valley lands widespread in Central Yakutia represent a vast and practically free ecological niche for the habitation of reacclimatizers. Data on satellite telemetry of bison are presented. Intercontinental translocation of wood bison in Yakutia is an important event in the renewal of the fauna of Russia. Further naturalization of the species in the historical range represents an important and urgent task of our time.

AbstractIntroductionInterruptions in treatment pose risks for people with HIV (PWH) and threaten progress in ending the HIV epidemic; however, the COVID‐19 pandemic's impact on HIV service delivery across diverse settings is not broadly documented.MethodsFrom September 2020 to March 2021, the International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) research consortium surveyed 238 HIV care sites across seven geographic regions to document constraints in HIV service delivery during the first year of the pandemic and strategies for ensuring care continuity for PWH. Descriptive statistics were stratified by national HIV prevalence (<1%, 1–4.9% and ≥5%) and country income levels.ResultsQuestions about pandemic‐related consequences for HIV care were completed by 225 (95%) sites in 42 countries with low (n= 82), medium (n= 86) and high (n= 57) HIV prevalence, including low‐ (n= 57), lower‐middle (n= 79), upper‐middle (n= 39) and high‐ (n= 50) income countries. Most sites reported being subject to pandemic‐related restrictions on travel, service provision or other operations (75%), and experiencing negative impacts (76%) on clinic operations, including decreased hours/days, reduced provider availability, clinic reconfiguration for COVID‐19 services, record‐keeping interruptions and suspension of partner support. Almost all sites in low‐prevalence and high‐income countries reported increased use of telemedicine (85% and 100%, respectively), compared with less than half of sites in high‐prevalence and lower‐income settings. Few sites in high‐prevalence settings (2%) reported suspending antiretroviral therapy (ART) clinic services, and many reported adopting mitigation strategies to support adherence, including multi‐month dispensing of ART (95%) and designating community ART pick‐up points (44%). While few sites (5%) reported stockouts of first‐line ART regimens, 10–11% reported stockouts of second‐ and third‐line regimens, respectively, primarily in high‐prevalence and lower‐income settings. Interruptions in HIV viral load (VL) testing included suspension of testing (22%), longer turnaround times (41%) and supply/reagent stockouts (22%), but did not differ across settings.ConclusionsWhile many sites in high HIV prevalence settings and lower‐income countries reported introducing or expanding measures to support treatment adherence and continuity of care, the COVID‐19 pandemic resulted in disruptions to VL testing and ART supply chains that may negatively affect the quality of HIV care in these settings.

In Mexico, the use of rivers as recreational centers drives the regional economy, however, most of these do not comply with the safety and quality of the water, therefore the microbiological risk derived from poor hygiene practices and discharges of industrial and urban waste increases every day, leaving public health exposed due to the deficiency in the monitoring of pathogens associated with infectious outbreaks. Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Salmonella Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) have a high prevalence in rivers of Sinaloa, they are considered indicators of contamination and are of the main causes of gastrointestinal infections worldwide, due to their ability to survive in numerous natural environments. Therefore, in this research, the survival of both bacteria in recreational water from the Fuerte River, San José de Ahome, Sinaloa, Mexico, was evaluated. To determine bacterial survival, water samples from two river locations were used, before and after the 2019 Easter holiday period. The concentration of total dissolved solids was determined for each sample, and these were inoculated with E. coli and S. Typhimurium independently, at a concentration of 6 Log10 CFU mL-1, simulating river conditions in the laboratory. For this, both bacteria were evaluated every 48 h using the plate extension technique. The results obtained showed that both bacteria prior to the Easter period survived 12 days, with 6.2X101 CFU mL-1 and 4.5 X101 CFU mL-1 of E. coli at sampling points 1 and 2, respectively and, 4.66X101 CFU mL-1 and 5.4 X101 CFU mL-1 of S. Typhimurium at sampling points 1 and 2, respectively; likewise, after the holiday period they survived 1.2X102 CFU mL-1 until day 16 and 4 CFU mL-1 until day 20 of E. coli at sampling points 1 and 2, respectively, also 1.65 X102 CFU mL-1 until day 16 and 22 CFU mL-1 until day 22 of S. Typhimurium, at sampling points 1 and 2, respectively. By comparison of means with the Tukey test showed that, there are significant differences between the survival of E. coli and S. Typhimurium in the sampling dates, which could be attributed to the capacity to use nutrients, derived from the organic waste generated by human influx.

Abstract
In this paper I argue that the English freethinker Anthony Collins (1676–1729) is making use of 'conglobation' to develop an argument across the Vindication of the Divine Attributes (1710) and the Discourse on Free-Thinking (1713), which aims to challenge the religious authority of orthodox representatives of the Anglican church. That is, Colins makes use of a rhetorical (piecemeal) strategy that serves to insinuate one's proper position to create, what I will call, the 'authority-challenge'. I reconstruct this challenge in three steps. First, I analyse Collins' criticism of William King (1650–1729), the Archbishop of Dublin, who according to Collins' Vindication advances a conception of the divine attributes and of the nature of God that is compatible with atheism. Second, I introduce Collins' argument from disagreement, which he develops in his Discourse. This argument aims to establish that whenever there is meaningful disagreement, e. g., about the (philosophical) content and not merely about the best terminology, between the supposed experts, we have the right to think on our own about the issue at hand. In the third step, I present the 'authority-challenge'. In a nutshell, this challenge requires orthodox representatives of the Anglican church either (i) to open the door to atheism by not substantively disagreeing with William King (thereby undermining everything they stand for and presenting themselves as hypocrites) or (ii) to substantively disagree with King to contain atheism (thereby undermining their status as experts for religious issues). Since (i) cannot be an option, they have no choice but to undermine their own authority by impairing their expert status, which, in turn, has ramifications for their political power as well. In the second part of my paper, I argue that §§ 16–22 of the fourth dialogue of George Berkeley's Alciphron (1732/52) are designed to meet Collins' 'authority-challenge'. This will allow me to resolve the puzzle that these sections so far have posed for commentators. In particular, many have been puzzled by Berkeley's argumentative strategy and in particular his references to the Scholastics. As I argue, however, if §§ 16–22 are read in the light of Collins' authority challenge, it becomes evident that Berkeley uses these references in his attempt to refute King without failing to meet Collins' challenge.
