ISSUE ADDRESSED: Health promotion resources in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) languages are being widely translated and disseminated at the community, health service and government level. In addition to outlining the relevant Australian policy context and evidence base, this study sought to describe the availability and characteristics of COVID‐19 and maternal health promotion resources incorporating Indigenous languages. METHODS: Health promotion resources published online between June 2005 and June 2020 were identified by a desktop scan and screened against quality inclusion criteria. A content analysis by resource type, health topic, purpose, use of language and source was conducted. RESULTS: A total of 215 resources was eligible for inclusion, incorporating 50 different Indigenous languages and representing a varied approach to language use and health promotion. Almost 7 times as many COVID‐19 resources were identified than maternal health materials. CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to maternal health, COVID‐19 has seen a sharp rise in the number of health promotion resources produced in language, especially in formats capable of streamlined replication in multiple languages. Strong use of narrative, storytelling and alternative primary aims such as language education suggests potential for greater collaboration between health promotion organisations and other community groups and services. Bilingual resources may have applications for communities where traditional language knowledge is being reawakened. SO WHAT? Emerging capacity to efficiently produce health promotion resources in multiple Indigenous languages could be capitalised for health topics beyond COVID‐19. However, further research in determining best practice and user perspectives is essential in guiding the development of these resources.

Purpose This randomized controlled study evaluates the effects of coordinated follow-up within a family intervention project on parents' participation in activation programs and employment. The trial has been registered on Clinicaltrials.gov (Identifier: NCT03102775). Methods Of 2634 families, 1429 families were randomized to be offered follow-up by a family coordinator, while 1205 families participated in ordinary follow-up without a family coordinator. An analysis of longitudinal administrative data was performed to estimate the effects of the intervention on parents' participation in activation programs and employment by comparing the two follow-up methods. Results Based on fixed effects logistic models, the follow-up with a family coordinator is associated with non-significant effects on participation in activation programs (OR = 1.05, 95% CI [0.81, 1.37]) and employment (OR = 1.11, 95% CI [0.67, 1.82]). Discussion The results provide no significant evidence on the effectiveness of coordination efforts for disadvantaged families on activation and employment.

Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird das linguistische, das interkulturelle, politisch-ethische sowie das musikalische Potenzial von Protestsongs im Fremdsprachenunterricht vorgestellt. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird auf die Möglichkeiten der Verwertung dieses Mediums bei der Sprachund Kulturvermittlung in Ausbildung zukünftiger Deutsch-als-Fremdsprache Lehrer gelegt. In der Hochschuledukation wurde anhand von Songs die kulturelle Entwicklung Deutschlands vom Wiederaufbau nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg bis in die Gegenwart behandelt und mit der Entwicklung in der (Tschecho-)Slowakei in Vergleich gesetzt. Das präsentierte ein Semester lang dauernde Unterrichtsprojekt mit Protestsongs wurde an der Katholischen Universität in Ružomberok (Slowakei) im Laufe mehrerer Jahre im Rahmen des Seminars "Sprachpraktische Übungen und Landeskunde" realisiert. ; The paper deals with the potential of protest songs focusing on the linguistic, intercultural, ethical an aesthetic dimension, as well as the multiple possibilities of their application in foreign language education, particularly in foreign language teaching in teacher training programmes at university level. The presented protest songs project was carried out at the Catholic University in Ružomberok (the Slovak Republic) in the course of several years, and took place during the classes of practical language. The songs analysed in the research project originated in the period starting with the reconstruction of Germany after the Second World War until the present. Class discussions included both similarities and differences in the light of German cultural and historical context as compared to the development trends in former Czechoslovakia and later Slovakia.

This paper looks at some of the difficulties that practitioners face when developing intervention programs for children who have experienced abuse or family violence. It argues that different intervention strategies have developed in Australia, the USA and Britain for children who have been physically abused and for children who have been sexually abused or who have experienced family violence, and that these strategies reflect the different ways in which these problems were identified rather than being based on rigorous evaluative methodologies that identify what is actually effective in intervening in children's lives.

AbstractThis paper focuses on how the International Federation of University Women, founded in 1919, sought to reconcile its mission of fostering internationalism with the interests of its over thirty national member organisations. Nowhere was the challenge to its internationalist ethos greater than in post–First World War Germany. Being one of the last European member associations to join the IFUW in 1926, the Germans immediately requested their language to be used alongside English and French. The article reconstructs the struggles preceding the admission of Germany to the IFUW and the subsequent disputes over the 'language question' to explain why and on what terms the Germans first contested and eventually agreed in 1932 to accept the new Anglo-American and French dominance as world languages.

The article is devoted to the conceptual foundations of foreign language teaching in the multilingual environment of modern European society. Considerable attention is paid to the analysis of priorities of Europe language policy and trends of foreign language education in European countries aimed at the formation of the multilingual identity of their citizens. The analysis of research data, carried out with the support from the European Commission, has shown the inconsistency between the current state of competence in foreign languages by the citizens of Europe to the declared goals of EU language policy, which include the competence of at least two foreign languages.The study of the scientific literature on the stated problems has allowed to establish the reasons for this situation lying first of all in the obsolescence of certain concepts of the theory of foreign language education and the lack of effectiveness of traditional methods of teaching foreign languages. Based on the analysis of the works of famous foreign scientists, there have been identified and analyzed a number of new conceptual ideas on the teaching of foreign languages integrated in the framework of the so-called didactics of multilingualism that proclaims the methodological paradigm of modern foreign language education. It has been found that the initial position of this concept is the interpretation of multilingualism as a single communicative competence of the individual, holistic and integrated system of linguistic and sociocultural knowledge and skills that expands and deepens with the development of each new language. The article reveals the key principles of multilingualism didactics, among which the issues of individual's "language biography", the existing linguistic and communicative knowledge, abilities and skills, the individual needs in language learning and rational use of previous experience of learning foreign languages are taken into account.
