This article discusses the results of a small-N survey of established academic staff within the discipline of politics and international relations and how they view research-teaching links. It reveals that even among this small group there are very different views as to the relationship between teaching and research. The article argues that more work is needed to produce a fuller understanding of the nexus across the discipline and that research needs to be integrated at all levels of undergraduate study. Fundamentally, we need to make the link explicit to both students and other stakeholders to ensure that the nexus remains viable in the future. Adapted from the source document.

This article reveals the importance of Prince George of Denmark to James II and William of Orange. It places George in the world of early modern European politics, when foreign policy and international relations were inextricably linked with dynastic politics, and many were concerned about the future well-being of Protestantism. The religious component is crucial as the evidence strongly suggests that George felt he belonged to a 'Protestant International', not defined by membership of a particular nation. By drawing attention to the polycentric nature of the Stuart court in the 1680s, the workings of dynastic politics in the international arena that involved secret political manoeuvrings in the run up to the invasion, and then detailing the way in which George behaved following William's arrival, this article argues that Prince George played a crucial role in the Glorious Revolution. It will also demonstrate that in the 1690s George helped to consolidate and promote the new regime. During the period in question the Prince and Princess of Denmark were a political partnership, and rather than being led by others, they joined forces with William and Mary because they each had a distinct political agenda. George pursued policies he believed would benefit the Stuart–Oldenburg dynasty in England, and its related houses in Europe, and the cause of international Protestantism. A subsidiary theme of this article will be the continuing importance of ceremonies involving royalty to the political culture of urban communities in early modern England.

Fear is one of the strongest motivators. It induces and seals the borderlines between nations, society groups, races, religions, but also family members, students, kids in the neighborhood. We can differ in many things, even strongly conflicting yet with no violence, but when fear appears, especially enforced by lack of responsibility conviction, conflicts turn, step by step into spiral we call "Lucifer Effect". Politicians who pursue more control in all spheres of life, claim they need this control to protect "us" from "them". Such extraordinary controlling measures must be taken because all who disagree with "us" are the enemy – "them", who threat our safety. Such leaders "play" the role of symbolic John Wayne, inducting fear, which make people insecure and looking for strong – uncompromising leader, who will defend "us" from "them".

"Der Beitrag stellt eine Antwort auf Vorschläge dar, die institutionelle Zersplitterung der internationalen Zusammenarbeit zum Schutz der Umwelt durch die Gründung einer Weltumweltorganisation zu überwinden und gleichzeitig eine Reihe zentraler Probleme der internationalen Umweltzusammenarbeit zu lösen. Dazu werden Organisationen kooperationstheoretisch als Steuerungsinstitutionen mit spezifischen Entscheidungsprozessen konzipiert. Dadurch wird erkennbar, daß wichtige bestehende internationale Umweltregime die Schwelle zur Organisation bereits überschritten haben. Sodann wird die im Vergleich zu anderen Politikfeldern typisch kleinteilige Bearbeitung internationaler Umweltprobleme auf die strukturellen Bedingungen des Politikfeldes 'Umwelt' zurückgeführt. Anschließend werden die beiden zentralen Dimensionen, die Organisation kollektiver Entscheidungsprozesse und der Zuschnitt des bearbeiteten Problemfelds, zu drei Modellen einer möglichen Weltumweltorganisation zusammengeführt. Die abschließende Untersuchung zeigt, daß von einer solchen Organisation aus kooperationstheoretischer Sicht kein wesentlicher Beitrag zur Lösung zentraler Probleme der internationalen Umweltpolitik zu erwarten ist."
