The heroine of the novel by V.Shkliar Marusya appears as a talented military leader, fighting for the independence of Ukraine, despite many obstacles and difficulties to achieve the purpose because of which her father, brothers, village fellows sacrifised their lives. The novel «Marusya» in that part which relates directly the chieftain activities are fully documented, because it is based on the memoir materials and real facts. Here you can talk about it as a biographical novel. The same story line that connects the main character and Myron Girnyak, is based mostly on fiction and author's fantasy. You can definitely speak about quasi-biography.

Valiashko at the beginning of 1920's and 1950's. Despite some tension in the relationships between professor and the new Government, which appeared due to the evictions of a number of intelligentsia supporters outside the Republic at the beginning of 1920's, the Bolsheviks has promptly realized that the loss of the scientific figure of such a value could cause huge damage to the best practices in the field of organic chemistry, as well as to the pharmaceutical education. Later on, M.Vailashko was given quite comfortable conditions for his research and development activity, which took its place at the faculty of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy within the walls of the Kharkiv Pharmaceutical University. The beginning of 1950's was marked by a new increased controversy in the life of the honorary scientist with the Government. This time it was caused by the representatives of the Government, who based solely on their ideological thoughts, has denounced some of the theories, which were supported by scientists of electromagnetic resonance and mesomeric effect in particular. Such an events had a very negative impact on the psychological health of M.Valiashko, and caused the completion of an active phase of his research and development activity.
In the article on the basis of the analysis of archival documents, statistical data and memoirs, with application of a biographical method, the reconstruction of the biography of the extraordinary Greek-Catholic priest Lev-Mykola Burnadz in the conditions of various state political systems of the first half of the ХХ century was carried out. The work traced back the process of mindset formation in the family of the priest and during the period of study in Kolomyia gymnasium. It also emphasized the crystallization of the national consciousness, which induced to military service in the Austria-Hungary Army and in the Ukrainian Galician Army. The study indicated the evolution of the belief system in the post-war time as one of the choice factors of a state of a celibate priest. Besides, it analysed the vicarial and public activity of L.-M. Burnadz in Patsykiv and Silets villages, and Horodenka and Stanislaviv cities. It was supposed that social and political views of the priest were a synthesis of a centrist national and democratic and conservative Christian public movements. It was also established that during the violent elimination of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church he refused to transfer to Russian Orthodox Church for what he was repressed and died in exile. Specifications of some separate details of L.-M. Burnadz's biography by the subsequent researchers will promote the preparation of documents for beatification process. Keywords: platoon leader of the Austrian Army, lieutenant of Ukrainian Galician Army, celibate priest, employee, parish administrator, confessor of the faith.

The essay is dedicated to some aspects of the biography of the prominent Ukrainian actor of theater and cinema Mykola Grytsenko, who was born, spent his childhood and youth in Donbas. His writing was prompted by errors in the biographical information of Mykola Hrytsenko and his family, distributed in print and online resources. Therefore, the author aimed to correct, clarify and supplement the biographical facts about Mykola Grytsenko and, incidentally, his family members, who belong to the Donbas period of their lives. Due to the archival documents, memoirs and some other sources involved, the exact date of birth of Mykola Grytsenko was established – July 17 (4) 1912, the village of Yasynuvate, Bakhmut county, Katerynoslav province. The birth date of Mykola's sister, Lilia Grytsenko, who was born on November 16 (3) 1917 in Gorlovka, Bakhmut County, was also corrected. Her real name is Lydia, not Lydia. We have found little known facts about the parents of future actors. Mykola's father, Olimpiy Grytsenko, was born in 1882 and comes from a Cossack family who lived for 18–20 centuries in Perehonivka village, Kobelyatsky county, Poltava province. Mykola's mother, Faina Vasylivna, was born in Gorlovka in 1883. It is established that her real name was Theodosia.Mykola Grytsenko attended elementary school No. 1 in Yasynuvata (1919–1926), then at the Dnepropetrovsk technical school of railway transport (1927–1931). After his studies, he first worked at the Mushketove and Yasynuvata railway stations (1931–1932). When the family moved to Makyivka, Mykola Grytsenko worked as a designer at the Steel Plant and at the same time studied at the Music and Drama Workers Department (1932–1934). He subsequently left the Donbass and entered the Kyiv Drama College at the Mykola Lysenko Music and Drama Institute. The author was able to establish that as a result of political persecution, Olimpiy Grytsenko had to leave the family and ended up in the Urals, where he worked at the Machine-Building Plant No. 78 until 1938, when he was accused of anti-Soviet activity, arrested and shot. Mother Faina Vasylivna and sister Lilia about 1935–1936 moved to Moscow, where a little earlier arrived from Kiev Mykola Grytsenko.
The article explores the main policies of A. Potocki on the Ukrainian question during his tenure as the governor of Galicia (1903–1908), consideres the factors, which caused the intensification of Ukrainian-Polish confrontation in Galicia and led to the murder of A. Potocki. Potocki's governorship focused on harmonization of Polish and Austrian national interests, the increase of Polish role within the state as a precondition for the extension of self-governance rights in Galicia, and the establishment of a clear administrative system. In order to increase Vienna's confidence A. Potocki tried to keep all social movements, which challenged the stability in the province, under a strict control, including both the leftists and the Ukrainian national movement. In his role as a governor, A. Potocki had little experience in the Ukrainian aspects and was guided by typical stereotypes of Polish aristocrats, which led him to underestimating the significance of the Ukrainian movement. His repeated instructions for the officials to provide unbiased and equal treatment to allsocial and ethnic groups did not prevent A. Potocki from restraining the growth of any political influences of Ukrainians; he sometimes fell under the influence of Polish East- Galicia conservatives and national democrats who were negative about Ukrainians and Poles' coming to terms, and kept minimum contact with Ukrainian politicians. The last years of his tenure were marked with aggravation of Ukrainian-Polish struggle related to the reform of electoral law by the Austrian Parliament, and intensification of mass protestactions. In several areas of Eastern Galicia the collision led to casualties among the Ukrainian population, the blame for which Ukrainian journalism put on the Galician governor. However, A. Potocki continued his attempts to keep the Ukrainian movement under control by means of administrative and political pressure. This tactic climaxed to his support of Russophiles over the candidates from Ukrainian parties in the elections to the Galician Diet in 1908 in response to the negotiations between Ukrainian parliament members and the Austrian government. The disturbance caused by such a step not only among the Ukrainian public, but also among the ruling circles of Austria-Hungary and Cracow conservatives, forced the governor to recognize his fallacy and initiate a political agreement with Ukrainian politicians represented by Eugene Olesnytskyi that was meant to be like a "new era" in 1890 and had high chances of influencing the political life in Galicia, but was not implemented because of Potocki's assassination committed by the Ukrainian student M. Sichynsky. This murder motivated with long disregard of the rights of the Ukrainian people was the culmination of the Ukrainian-Polish collision in Galicia and forced ones to think about ways of normalizing the international relations.Key words: Andrzej Potocki, Galician vicegerency, Ukrainian-Polish relations, the State Council, Miroslav Sichynsky.
The article addresses the formation of the Polish aristocrat Andrzej Potocki (1861–1908) as a Galician politician who combined his state service to the Gabsburg monarchy with defending Polish national interests and looking for the ways of settling a Ukrainian issue. In chronological terms the article covers the period till 1903, when Andrzej Potocki was appointed a Vicegerentof Galicia. The political views of Andrzej Potocki had been formulated under the ideology of Krakowian conservatism. There were a number of additional factors that determined Andrzej Potocki's opinions on the Ukrainian issue. These were his family relations with Polish nobility from the Right-bank Ukraine, the idealization of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth prevalentin the noble circles, the patriarchal conflictless relations between Polish landowners and Ukrainian peasants, and also his family and friendly contacts with Russian and French aristocrats who did not consider the Ukrainians a separate nation in view of European policy. Such an experience contradicted the policy and practice of Krakowian conservatism, whichincluded the thesis about a natural union between the Poles and the Ukrainians to counterbalance the imperial strivings of Russia. Andrzej Potocki finalized his opinion on the Ukrainian issue after his nomination for a Marshal of the Galician seym (1901), in the context of radicalization of the demands of Ukrainian political authorities and a sudden worsening of Ukrainian-Polish relations. The main motivation of Andrzej Potocki's actions in the position of a regional marshal was the attempt of Polish ruling circles in Galicia to keep a Ukrainian movement under control.Key words: Andrzej Potocki, Krakowian conservatism, the Galician seym, Ukraininan- Polish relations.
The article describes the character of Mykola Hankevich in the context of the early parliamentary elections of 1908 in Galicia. The author sets out his task, by shifting the usual historiographical accents, to consider the general election culture in the provincial capital in the early twentieth century, the theory and practice of the international socialist movement in a multinational urban environment. The well-established point of view of K. Jobst and other researchers, who believe that the conflict over Hankevich's face in the 1907 elections, when the executive leadership of the PPSD did not support his candidacy, is the beginning of the path that ultimately led the Polish and Ukrainian Social Democrats parties in the bosom of "their" national camps, and the ephemeral international socialist movement in Galicia disintegrated. The author believes that such a narrative simplifies the processes that took place in the environment of the Galician socialist parties. Cooperation between Ukrainian, Polish, and Jewish socialists did not stop until the outbreak of the First World War. In the USDP, M. Hankevich himself did not cease to cooperate closely with Polish and Jewish socialists. During the snap election of 1908, the PPSD leader agreed with the candidacy of Mykola Hankevich, who, however, lost this election by winning 734 votes against 1011. However, in the anti-Ukrainian hysteria that had not yet subsided after the assassination of Andrzej Potocki, more than 40% of the vote, loyal to the Ukrainian and socialist candidates in the bourgeois Lviv district, looked like a tremendous success for Hankevich. Having identified the main reasons for this success, namely: his impeccable personal reputation, eloquence, popularity among the Lviv workers and intellectuals, genuine internationalism and willingness to represent different ethnic groups and different social strata, the author, referring to the memories of the Polish socialist Yevhen Morachevsky, calls another circumstance that explains the results of the vote quite differently. It is about 450 votes that Morachevsky bought in favour of Gankevich. The author notes that Morachevsky considers his dubious act as a peculiar feat - to pollute his hands to achieve a noble political goal, in which, in his opinion, he manifests the instinct and ability of a politician, thereby opposing himself to "dreamers" and idealists who did not compromise own principles.
