Negli ultimi venti anni la formazione dei docenti di lingua inglese è stata messa alla prova dai nuovi scenari derivanti da fattori quali: il crescente numero di classi multilingui e multiculturali, la diffusa esposizione alle varietà dell'inglese tramite i prodotti multimediali, l'uso emergente dell'inglese come lingua franca (ELF) nella comunicazione interculturale, così come il nuovo riconosciuto ruolo degli insegnanti e dei formatori non-nativi in contesti istituzionali. Questioni di identità, standard, livelli di competenza, comunicazione interculturale e rilevanza linguistica sia per gli apprendenti sia per i docenti, richiedono un orientamento paradigmatico e una seria riconsiderazione del curricolo di inglese, della formazione dei docenti di lingua, delle politiche linguistiche così come della ricerca e delle pratiche didattiche. Nuovi modi di formulare esempi, modelli, e azioni in termini di obiettivi educativi e di attività di consapevolezza linguistica richiedono un'analisi più attenta dei dati linguistici al fine di sollecitare la riflessione dei docenti, svelare e provocare le convinzioni esistenti sulla lingua e sulla competenza linguistico-comunicativa. Questo capitolo illustra come due gruppi di docenti italiani di inglese partecipanti a due corsi di formazione condotti da un formatore non nativo, sono stati introdotti ad ELF tramite l'esposizione, l'analisi e l'uso di campioni linguistici e con attività di consapevolezza linguistica e di noticing. English language teacher education has been challenged in the last two decades by new scenarios deriving from factors such as: the growing number of multilingual and multicultural classrooms, the widespread exposure through multimedia to varieties of Englishes, the emerging use of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) in intercultural communication as well as the acknowledged new role of non-native teachers and teacher-trainers in institutional contexts. Issues of identity, standards, proficiency levels, intercultural communication and language relevance for both learners and teachers demand for a paradigmatic orientation and for a serious reconsideration of the English curriculum, of language teacher education, of language policies as well as of research and practice. New ways in devising patterns, models and actions in terms of educational aims and of language awareness activities require a closer investigation of language data in order to elicit teachers' reflection, unveil and challenge existing beliefs about language and about language communicative competence. This contribution illustrates how two groups of Italian English language teachers respectively participating in pre- and in-service teacher education courses led by a non-native teacher trainer have been introduced to ELF through exposure, analysis and use of ELF language samples via language awareness and noticing activities.

L'evidence based education è una prospettiva di ricerca, già assai diffusa nella cultura pedagogica anglosassone, che mira alla produzione, raccolta e diffusione di conoscenze affidabili circa l'efficacia di differenti opzioni didattiche che possano supportare insegnanti, educatori e decisori politici nell'assunzione di decisioni consapevoli. Questo libro è una guida introduttiva a tale prospettiva e alle conoscenze oggi disponibili sulla didattica efficace. Se ne presentano in esso le origini, le differenti definizioni, i metodi di ricerca, i risultati, e il dibattito critico che anima la letteratura internazionale. Si offrono, inoltre, indicazioni pratiche per avviare attività e percorsi di approfondimento che consentano a insegnanti e professionisti della formazione di documentarsi in modo autonomo e agevole on-line su ciò che è didatticamente efficace.

While the field of foreign policy has generated an impressive amount of research, there is still much to be explored and explained of the way in which regime types (totalitarian and democratic) influence the dynamics of state behavior at the international level. The present study examines in a comparative way the characteristics that influence the process of foreign policy making in totalitarian and democratic states. This can help achieve a better understanding of their foreign policy decisions and also help reveal valuable patterns in their decision making process. For the purpose of the present study, the United States of America and the People`s Republic of China were chosen as representative cases of the above mentioned highly contrasting regimes. The foreign policy and diplomatic relationship of the two countries is analyzed on the period between the 1940s and the 1970s using comparative foreign policy analysis, their differences providing a fertile ground for comparison.

Il contributo intende mostrare come la cartografia concorra ad educare alla modellizzazione del mondo e alla Conoscenza del relativismo dei modelli, rispondendo alla finalità principale, indicata dalle recenti indicazioni della legge 53/2003, per la scuola secondaria di 1° grado: «Qualsiasi modello (.) non comporta una trascrizione completa e fedele dell'oggetto che vuole rappresentare, bensì una selezione di certe qualità o scopi di esso» (i Nuovi Ordinamenti Scolastici, Miur, p. 247). Per questi motivi, è opportuno proporre progetti didattici che possano far scoprire tale linguaggio, il suo ruolo nella costruzione dell'immagine del mondo, e mostrino come i modelli cartografici siano correlati alle esperienze culturali, politiche e tecniche di ogni società. Dal punto di vista esemplificativo, si propone lo studio delle rappresentazioni urbane confrontando le rappresentazioni dell'età moderna con quelle attuali. ; This paper, according to the recent indications of law 53/2003 for the stalian Secondary School. discusses the cartography's contribute to model the world and the to knowledge of models relativism. For these reasons it is necessary to propose didactic projects which allow the students to discover the cartography language and its role for the World Constructing. The didactic suggestions have to help for understanding the correlation between cartographic models and cultural political and technical experiences of each society. The study of urban representations and the comparison of modern and contemporary maps are proposed as examples.

Significant changes affect contemporary societies, thus influencing politics and economy by transforming the tools and the strategies that are regarded as useful for the training of subjects.Within the frame of citizenship awareness, an artefact of capabilities is used to re-connect the poles of various false dichotomies: theory and practice; intuitions and inclinations of individuals with real life. Accordingly, this enterprise goes towards the overcoming of the school-labour dichotomy. This remark is consistent with the idea of capability when defined as the ability that allows the person to have the possibility of making substantial choices.The possibility of achieving the training of skills would allow people to enforce their rights and to transform them into real opportunities of life—provided freedom is regarded as the end of this process. ; Le notevoli trasformazioni che riguardano le società contemporanee stanno influenzando le politiche economiche e culturali e modificando gli strumenti, il ruolo e le strategie messe in atto dai soggetti o dagli attori della formazione. Nella cornice di senso della cittadinanza, il costrutto di capacità per il fatto di collegare il sapere con il sapere fare, le intuizioni e le propensioni degli individui con la vita reale, va nella direzione del superamento della dicotomia scuola e mondo del lavoro. Tale osservazione è coerente con l'idea di capacitazione (capability) intesa come condizioni particolari della persona che consentono possibilità di realizzazione sostanziale. Scegliere di finalizzare la formazione all'acquisizione di competenze significa mettere le persone nella condizione di avvalersi dei propri diritti e di trasformarli in chances di vita in vista della conquista della libertà.

This process of reciprocity allows the human being to realize herself as conscious member of a "social body," namely a radical society within an organic human context—a context that has nowadays become global, as a consequence of new migratory fluxes and of newly increasing economic inter-dependence.Education is a thread in human civilization and makes it possible to transform the spaces where anonymity, fear, consumerism, prejudice, haste, indifference, subjugation, insecurity and solitudes take place. As a consequence of transformation, these spaces become characterized by acceptance, trust, sharing, safety, friendship, kinship. The models of political education that used to prevail are the following ones: the academic model—in which a huge amount of notions are debated and explained—and the laboratory model—which bends towards operational politics, by making use of workshops and simulations.It is now widespread the social need to provide everybody—and young people in particular—with foundational socio-political information and with evaluative tools that are historically well-established. These latter instruments should allow for a comparison of different socio-political traditions and frameworks, thus stimulating a renewed commitment that is consciousof the increasing difficulties faced when implementing policies. Into European political and pedagogical debate, the eventuality about thecreation in Italy of an "integrated education and training system for age 0-6" (L 107/2015) requests as no longer to put off the problem of the preschoolprofessionalism identification, as its qualification. The need of a univocaldefinition of professional profiles by models of competences led tothe formulation of this project research, wants to carry out a new model ofcontinuing professional development, according to the paradigm of capabilityapproach. However, the current lack of a model of professional competenceswhich to refer, requires a primary attention to such professionalismdescribing reference, linked to the development of several expansionapproaches at the same. The definition of systematic and coherent paths ofinitial formal training allow us to design new directions of continuing professional development, able to include the non-formal and informal enlargedlearning contexts. ; Nel solco del dibattito politico e pedagogico europeo, la prospettiva dellacreazione in Italia di un "sistema integrato di educazione ed istruzione perla fascia 0-6" (L 107/ 2015) impone come non più rimandabile la questionedel riconoscimento della professionalità prescolastica e della sua qualificazione.L'urgenza di una definizione univoca dei profili di competenzeprofessionali ha condotto alla formulazione di un progetto di ricerca tesoad esplicitare un nuovo modello di sviluppo professionale, secondo il paradigmadel capability approach. La mancanza attuale di un modello di competenzaunivoco richiede un'attenzione preliminare a tale riferimento didescrizione della professionalità, per poter innestare lo sviluppo di approccidi espansione della stessa. La definizione di percorsi coerenti e sistematicidi formazione iniziale di tipo formale permetterà infine di disegnarenuove traiettorie di sviluppo professionale continuo, capace di includere icontesti d'apprendimento allargati di tipo non formale ed informale.

Although, in his Democracy and Education (2010[1916]), Dewey does not explicitlytalk about teacher education, said book remains a relevant reflectionon how people learn and on how teaching should be undertaken. Inparticular, it is important to understand how one of Dewey's concepts—"education [as] reconstruction of experience"—could be meaningfully appliedto teacher education. In this context, another interesting concept isthe one expressed in the opening chapter: «the educative process is a continuousprocess of growth, having as its aim at every stage an added capacityof growth» (2010[1916], p. 73). ; Benché in Democrazia e educazione (1916) Dewey non scriva direttamentesulla formazione degli insegnanti, resta un testo che ha molto da farci rifletteresu come le persone imparano in generale, e come si dovrebbe essereinsegnare a scuola. La tesi ha come obiettivo la riflessione sul ruolo politico di agenda making dei think tank statunitensi attraverso le relative strategie comunicative e discorsive. L'orientamento ideologico-politico, spesso dichiaratamente a sostegno di un determinato partito, induce i think tank a operare in diverso modo: i think tank di destra, esemplificati da Heritage Foundation, più portati ad interagire direttamente con il potere legislativo del Congresso; i think tank di sinistra, esemplificati dalla Brookings Foundation, più inclini a influenzare l'opinione pubblica attraverso l'occupazione degli spazi di distribuzione e propagazione delle news. Risultano diversi, pertanto, strumenti e generi della comunicazione: diversificati e target-oriented quelli dei think tank di destra, più generali e 'di opinione' quelli di sinistra.

Thanks to the Capability Approach it is possible to travel from a space characterized by goods, income, utility, to a space where the foundational elements of liveability are located. Capabilities appear as means on the basis of which it is possible to evaluate the quality of life as well as the individual and social well-being. Therefore, agency, well-being and standard of living are complex concepts that, although deriving from classical political economy, can still fertilize the specific soil of education. This affects not only the quality of life of individuals in terms of economic well-being, but also their development as subjects of learning, education, and training. ; Attraverso il Capability Approach è possibile transitare dallo spazio delle merci, dei redditi, delle utilità, allo lo spazio degli elementi costitutivi del vivere.Le capacità si configurano come mezzo sulla base del quale valutare la qualità della vita e il benessere individuale e sociale. Agency, well- being e standard of living sono concetti complessi che sebbene risalenti alle teorie dell'economia politica classica, riescono a fertilizzare anche il terreno specificatamente educativo. Ciò incide direttamente non solo sulla qualità della vita di un individuo in termini di benessere economico, ma anche sul suo sviluppo quale soggetto di apprendimento, educazione e formazione.

This assay examines a review of the research literature on gender and educationand summarises the main findings from international performancesurveys on gender differences in education. It discusses the gender gaps interms of boys outperforming girls and girls outperforming boys and providessecondary analyses referring to relevant international surveys, such asProgress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), the Programme forInternational Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematicsand Science Study (TIMSS). The comparative overview of policiesand measures in place in European countries with respect to gender equalityin education forms the main part of the report. The substantial, direct relationships between the two different systems of Education and Prison are determined not only by the respective institutional roles within the social structure of a country, but also (and especially) by the key principles that inspire their pedagogical and (re)educational mission. This reflection on the educational and social goals that the school-to-prison system should/could achieve extends their roles beyond the mere considerationof the prison as containment and punishment apparatus and of the school as an"obligation". Moreover, the analysis of these facets of the topic reinforce the opportunity of a new idea of mutual scaffolding between all interacting for a shared load outlet, a proposal that implicate an analysis of the topic from the inside to the outside of the prison walls.Therefore, among the activities aimed at the social rehabilitation of prisoners, Education appears to be an essential element of intervention in the prison context, in addition to represent an essential tool for supporting the process of personal growth. Consequently, this individual development and empowerment encourages the inmates to abandon the negative values, that generate deviant behavior, in favor of positive social reintegration.
