This article is based on materials collected by the author over many years in 28 cities and towns in 14 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. He aims to show how the historical (aka cultural or social) memory of the Civil War (War of the North and the South) from 1861 through 1865, and the corresponding abolition of slavery become a factor in the anti-racist movement that has swept the country again in recent years. Attention is drawn to transformations in the Civil War memory associated with changing perceptions of the history, essence, and sociocultural boundaries of the American nation. Th e essence of these changes is the affi rmation of a view of the U.S. nation as the entity that includes both whites and blacks on an equal footing. It has also changed the perception of the Civil War as a key moment in the formation of the American nation: whereas previously the War of the North and the South was seen as a war between Northern whites and Southern whites, it has increasingly emphasized the active role of black Americans. At the same time, the differences in the historical memory of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery that persist in the North and the South allow the author to argue that the sociocultural division of U.S. society into Northerners and Southerners has not disappeared to this day. Th e article also highlights that not just racial dichotomies, but racial inequalities were embedded in the very foundation of the American nation at the time of its formation. Th is fact raises the question of whether so-called systemic (otherwise structural, institutional, or social) racism is in principle eradicable in the United States, despite the obvious change for the better in the black community since the victory of the black civil rights movement of 1954–1968.

Жилище является одним из важнейших элементов культуры, связанных с материальными потребностями и аксиологическими ценностями этноса. В предлагаемом исследовании, ориентированном на выявление идейного своеобразия паремий и ценностного восприятия жилого строения носителями русской и китайской культур, используется метод лингвокультурологического анализа. В центре внимания - компоненты пословицы-наименования жилых строений богача и бедняка и те представления, что проявляются в паремиях двух языков. Результаты проведенного анализа показывают, что наименования жилища, используемые в двух языках, широко представлены в паремиях, что говорит о его важности в жизни человека; они служат для указания на материальное состояние его владельца, для выражения отношения к жилищу и расстановки ценностных приоритетов носителей языка и культуры. С одной стороны, в русских и китайских паремиях выражается ряд общих лингвокультурологических установок: негативное отношение к богатому жилью, тесно связанное с идеей социального неравенства; предпочтительность собственного жилья качественному, но чужому и др. С другой стороны, в китайских паремиях более ценным представляется моральное состояние собственника, его образованность и перспективы, а в русских паремиях акцентируется важность здоровья, любви и согласия и т. д.
Dwelling is one of the most important elements of culture associated with the material needs and axiological values of the ethnos. In the proposed study, focused on identifying the ideological specifics of the paremias and the value perception of the dwelling by representatives of Russian and Chinese cultures, the method of linguocultural analysis is used. The focus is on the components of the proverb-names of the rich and poor residential buildings and those ideas that are expressed by the proverbs of the two languages. The results of the analysis show that the names of the dwelling, used in two languages, are widely represented in paremias, which proves its importance in human life; they serve to indicate the material condition of its owner, to express the attitude towards the dwelling and to set the value priorities of native speakers of the proper language and culture. On the one hand, a number of common linguocultural attitudes are expressed in Russian and Chinese paremias: a negative attitude towards rich housing, closely related to the idea of social inequality; a positive assessment of one's own poor housing, compared with high-quality, but somebody else's, etc. On the other hand, in Chinese paremias, the moral state of the owner, his education and prospects are more valuable, while in Russian paremias the importance of health, love and harmony, etc. is emphasized.

The article studies the theoretical and practical aspects of the development ofTaiwan's residents' national identity. The analysis is based on the results of recent opinion polls which studied the trends in identity change of the Taiwanese people, their preferences and views on relations with mainlandChina. An attempt was made to establish a correlation between the changing identity, the wish of the majority of the population to maintain the status quo in relations with the PRC and the level of support of the political independence ofTaiwan. The article shows that the share of those inTaiwanwho identify as "Taiwanese" has been increasing over the last decades. At the same time, the belief thatTaiwanis an independent state has also been strengthening. The authors analyse the internal and external factors that influenced the dynamics of identity change and the attitudes towards the problems of the status ofTaiwanon the island over the last two years. ; В статье рассмотрены теоретические и практические аспекты становления н развития национальной идентичности жителей Тайваня. Разбирается проблема соотношения «государственного мифа» и реальной политической практики на Тайване, освещен его уникальный исторический опыт в этом отношении. Анализ проведен с привлечением исторических данных об аналогичных процессах, связанных с образованием национальных государств в мире. Освещены эволюция взглядов различных политических сил в отношении статуса Тайваня в современном мире и возникновение национализма на острове.Рассматривается проблема соотношения этнических и политических факторов при самоидентификации жителей Тайваня. Приведены и проанализированы новейшие данные социологических опросов на острове, посвященных выявлению динамики самоидентификации тайваньцев, их партийных предпочтений и взглядов на состояние отношений острова с континентальным Китаем. Сделана попытка определить, какова корреляция между тайваньской идентификацией, желанием значительной части населения сохранить статус-кво в отношениях с КНР и поддержкой политической независимости Тайваня. На протяжении последних десятилетий отмечается практически неуклонный рост доли тех, кто идентифицирует себя как в качестве «тайваньцев». При этом укрепляется представление о том, что Тайвань является фактически независимым государством. Выделены внутренние и внешние факторы, влияющие на динамику идентичности и отношение тайваньцев к проблеме статуса Тайваня в последние два года.

This long-read scholarly essay analyzes various aspects of theory and history of early Soviet modernism and avant-garde debated sub specie comprehension of complex mechanisms of late-industrial economy of culture and its fundamental institutions. The article presents the results of the study, the subject matter of which are the public programs of building Information and Post-information society in Japan. The purpose of the study is to identify the real vector of social development of one of the most developed countries of the world - Japan, in order to formulate a possible development landmark for the foreseeable future for Russia. The study reveals the influence of improving information and building post-information society on the process of Japan's transition to the paradigm of sustainable development; examines the specificity of building the information and post-information society in Japan; analyses the most important factors and strategies of joint efforts of the government and business aimed at the country's sustainable development. The author cames to the conclusion that the informational society as a society based on information and communication technologies (ICT) and knowledge, represents a real vector of social development for the foreseeable future and presupposes a corresponding state policy.

In article supercomputer technologies application in social and economic and
technological researches analysis results are presented. It is revealed that these
technologies are applied in the core at the decision of volume technological, design
and analytical tasks with usage of a considerable quantity of information. These tasks
dare, as a rule, numerical methods with obtaining of approximate results having
significant enough errors which estimation of boundary values is often more difficult,
than technical calculations. It is shown that the complex decision of social and
economic tasks with usage of the big arrays of statistical information is represented
more comprehensible to usage of supercomputer technologies with usage handling
static information and forecasting newest methods. The authoring concept of system
engineering of modeling and monitoring of innovative activity in the building sphere,
containing methods of conversion and usage of the statistical information in
forecasting is offered, methods of the decision of the formulated tasks are considered.

The author looks at the outcome of the social and economic reorganization conducted in Russia in the last two decades, analyzing the present situation, psychological atmosphere in society and personal feelings, which reflect, on the one hand, the growing prosperity, and on the other hand – life dissatisfaction, spiritual emptiness, loneliness, disability of life control. The three most widely spread answers to the question concerning the society type being built in Russia in the 21st century are given. The first one – the official opinion characteristic of the ambitious, empowered people - holds that we are building the democratic, civil and legal society or the consumer society; the second one - the common men's opinion, based on emotions rather than theoretical conclusions - holds that we are doing nothing at all; whereas the third opinion reflects the reality. In conclusion, the existing economic model is defined by the author as reflecting the soviet-liberal way of doing business, which, in his opinion, is rather dangerous both for the state and society, and therefore should be transformed in the interest of the national economy instead of the interest of big businesses ; Автор статьи размышляет об итогах социальных и экономических преобразований, проводившихся в России в течение двух последних десятилетий. The article analysis the United Nations' role in upholding political dialogue on the fate of Palestinian refugees and providing direct assistance to the Palestinians.The article traces the work of the UN Conciliation Commission, the UN Relief for Palestine Refugees (UNRPR), and the reasons for the establishment of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East and the organization of work.
