Poland, labour market policy, gender, Europeanisation, post-socialism. - The PhD thesis applies gender analysis to labour market policy development in Poland before and after accession to the European Union (EU) asking whether domestic conditions facilitate or hinder the impact of EU on gender relevant labour market policies. The entrenched traditional gender ideology and difficult labour market conditions conflicted with accession to the EU and the requirement to take gender equality into account - thus it was not clear a priori how the opposing factors would combine. Applying the theoretical framework of the new institutionalism - literatures on Europeanisation, welfare state development, feminist critique of the welfare state, and socialism and post-socialism - to a documentary analysis and expert interviews, I found that the socialist failure to institutionalise gender equality hindered its achievement during the post-socialist period, while Europeanisation of gender equality holds potential for change. I distinguished between short-term outputs and long-term processes. Before accession, conditionality and the adoption of gender acquis led to a moderate level of change. The 'hard' top-down pressure rendered structure prominent. After accession, the 'soft' but iterative pressure, subsidiarity and cross-national learning, give more weight to agency. Although the exogenous pressure is weak, the comprehensive and long-term process presents an opportunity for transformative reforms.

This article analyses inequalities in the context of gender, parenthood and disability in
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Shared Service Centers (SSC)
on Poland's labour market. It characterizes BPO and SSC and the areas of their main business activity and discusses inequalities on the labour market. This article also discusses the results of research on inequalities in gender, parenthood and disability within BPO and SSC; the literature of the subject and these authors' own empirical research.

The paper presents the results of two research studies carried out in 2003 and 2010 regarding the perception of Polish students on their employment opportunities in European Union. The results show some hope that the scale of young Polish people emigration for economic reasons will decrease; this is considered a positive phenomenon taking into consideration the development potential and the needs of the Polish economy.

An unfavourable phenomenon related to this issue, which is increasingly often appearing in public debate, is the rising unemployment of graduates. Therefore, it is important to attempt to identify related phenomena in today's job market, and one of such phenomena is the emergence of a new type of employee in the labour market, a member of the precarious class. The analysis aims to present the origins, nature and scale of the precariat phenomenon in Poland. The issue is described from the perspective of the labour market position of a selected social group, i.e. young people entering the labour market after finishing their education. The study attempted to identify factors that affect this phenomenon and the characteristics confirming the sense of its separateness in the labour market.
