This thesis aims to give visibility to women in the history of cities, especially women as transformers of public space. The author examines what it means to fight for the defense of women and how that struggle has impacted the urban fabric of São Paulo. It analyzes the symbolic urban network of "places for women" and the participation of women both in new construction and the upgrading of slums
Between the late 1940s and independence in 1975, rural Mozambican women migrated to the capital, Lourenco Marques, to find employment in the cashew shelling industry. This book tells the labour and social history of what became Mozambique's most important late colonial era industry through the oral history and songs of three generations of the workforce. In the 1950s Jiva Jamal Tharani recruited a largely female labour force and inaugurated industrial cashew shelling in the Chamanculo neighbourhood. Seasonal cashew brews had long been an essential component of the region's household, gift and informal economies, but by the 1970s cashew exports comprised the largest share of the colony's foreign exchange earnings. This book demonstrates that Mozambique's cashew economy depended fundamentally on women's work and should be understood as "whole cloth"

This paper looks at the impact of the new regulatory framework in Portugal that came into force in January 2018, the so-called gender quota law that relates to the gender composition of the boardrooms of companies listed on the Euronext Lisbon Stock Exchange and in the public sector. It begins by contextualising the debate about the underrepresentation of women on boards and the new binding policy framework that has been introduced in the European Union (EU) and Portugal. The paper then examines the data relating to the representation of men and women on the boards of public listed companies (PLCs). It is concluded that the introduction of binding legal targets in Portugal has accelerated the movement towards a greater representation of women on the boards of PLCs, giving an added impulse to the longstanding, but slow progress generated by the incentives that were designed to encourage voluntary action on the part of the companies themselves, and to promote self-regulatory measures. One of the fundamental challenges lying ahead is to move from a greater numerical gender balance to s ubstantive gender equality in the boardroom, while also increasing the representation of women in positions of power and with influence over decision-making.

The role of women in the peacekeeping processes. The case of Guinea-Bissau" In the last few decades we have witnessed a breakthrough of feminist studies, which have brought relevant contributions to ensure integration (of women to the politics discussion) and gender equality in various areas, what revealed to be an innovative and dynamic chain to improve the analysis, study and comprehension of the gender matters particularly peace vs. conflict subjects (issues). Until this and for many years, issues related to Women and Peace were not a priority and weren't grounds for discussion of international politics which allowed that all the atrocities committed against women remain covered to the eyes and judgement of the International community. From the last few years to now on we can observe how women start to play a more influential and active role in what concern to the development of peacemaking (and peacekeeping) processes. Such evolution has been motivated by different worldwide initiatives and contributions, followed by the development of important documents, promotion of discussions and the awareness of global society forums, such as the 1325 resolution, published by the Security Council of the United Nations in 2000. All these actions (processes) revealed the importance of promoting gender equality in all phases of the (re)construction of peace and the improvement of women rights and safety, including in countries such as Guinea-Bissau.
