The main purpose of this study is to determine the work values of high school students and to compare the differences between students from different residence places (developed and underdeveloped cites). We used a quantitative approach in order to determine the influence of the variable mentioned above on the attitudes and beliefs regarding work values. To collect data, we used The Multidimensionality Work Ethic Profile, an inventory that measures seven dimensions of work values: self-reliance, morality, leisure, hard work, centrality of work, wasted time and delay of gratification. The research tool was applied on a sample of 214 high school students coming from two different residence environments characterized by different levels of development. We performed a series of Independent T tests in order to compare the scores that were given to each dimension. We discovered that the students, regardless of their residence environment, place the same value on the seven dimensions.

How do post-authoritarian legislatures craft police oversight? This article applies McCubbins and Schwartz's model of congressional oversight to Myanmar's inaugural post-junta legislature (2011–16). It aims to assess whether parliament began to play a role in police oversight following the end of the junta's rule in 2011. It draws on the analysis of official legislative proceedings and interviews with members of parliament from both the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and the opposition. The findings suggest that—echoing large swathes of scholarship on parliamentary scrutiny in fledgling democracies—an inchoate form of "fire alarm" oversight began to develop. The Union legislature under the USDP emerged as a site for occasionally shedding light on police (mis)behaviour, but failed to effectively act on, or sanction, misconduct. Police scrutiny was tentatively fostered by a handful of backbenchers who had a keen interest in police issues, a background in security affairs or were facing pressure from their constituents to ventilate their grievances against the police in parliament. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the practice of police oversight in new legislatures operating under praetorian settings. (Contemp Southeast Asia/GIGA)

In recent years, the EU has been integrating the categories of 'sovereignty' and 'geopolitical' into its discourse. This article aims to identify whether the use of the same terms signifies that Moscow and Brussels are about to find a "common language." Theoretically, the article is based on critical geopolitics, which helps to disclose common elements in the interpretations of sovereignty and geopolitics, as well as fundamental distinctions in the way these categories are integrated in the discourses of the European Union and Russia. The study shows that the EU's adaptation of the language of realism further complicates communication between Moscow and Brussels.

The article substantiates the social nature of the dichotomy of contemporary postmodern society through the analysis of the social content of possible forms of social activity. Using the terminology of S. Deetz's theory of communication, the authors substantiate that today in Ukrainian society there are three main forms of social activity - consent; involvement; participation. The dominance of a certain form of social dialogue in society determines the nature, dynamics, direction, spatial and temporal social activity limitations. The results of an empirical study on the distribution of forms of social activity in contemporary Ukrainian society are presented. Emphasis is placed on the fact that one of the conditions for reducing the social destructiveness of postmodern society is the value context of social dialogue as a manifestation of social activity that regulates relations between social groups. In postmodern society, there is a multiplicity of variations of social interaction. The social nature of the constructive social activity of contemporary Ukrainian society "lies" in the plane of "social interaction - social dialogue - social trust". Effective (constructive) social interaction between certain social groups (especially those which have the ability and desire to influence social processes actively) leads to the formation of new social relations, that, in turn, form opportunities for social dialogue between them. This dialogue influences the evolution (progressive reforming) of the structural organization of society, which is a prerequisite for the stability of society, decreasing its potential social destructiveness (especially in a situation of social challenges).

The article is devoted to the substantiation of the need to improve the family legislation of the Russian Federation due to the lack of legal norms that clearly regulate modern forms and problems of marriage and family practices, as well as due to the contradictions existing in Russian family law. Life dynamics, a variety of life realities, value transformations are not "covered" by the current legal field: many conflict and controversial situations of modern marriage and family relations remain outside the legal regulation. This fact indicates the lag of law from life itself.

Increasing the independence of regional and local budgets is the task that the state faces most acutely in modern conditions. The decline in the financial independence of the territories, the problem of the adequacy of their own resources at the regional and local levels of the budget system are one of the most urgent and demanding issues for the effective functioning of the budget system in the Russian Federation. The purpose of this article is to analyze the current problems of inter-budget transfers in local budgets. The article considers the role of inter-budget transfers in the local budgets of the Russian Federation as one of the criteria for the financial independence of the territories, which makes it possible to give a more complete assessment of the level of dependence of local budgets on the support provided. The article also considers some legal problems of budget regulation and their connection with the redistribution of powers between authorities of various levels.
