Die Konkomba waren in den letzten 16 Jahren Beteiligte an fünf größeren Konflikten in Nordghana. Eine genaue Nachzeichnung der auslösenden Ereignisse und des Verlaufs dieser Konflikte, die zu dem Bürgerkrieg von 1994 geführt haben, bringen mehrere konfliktverursachende Faktoren zum Vorschein: kulturelle Benachteiligung bei gleichzeitigem numerischen Übergewicht einer Ethnie, Bodenrechtsprobleme, Bodenverarmung sowie Vorurteile vermischen sich mit den Problemen eines insgesamt armen und abseits gelegenen Gebiets. Zum Schlüsselproblem ist angesichts kultureller Unterschiede die Frage geworden, wie die traditionellen Vorrechte der Chiefs, die in Ghana großen Einfluß haben, zu interpretieren und in modernes Recht zu übersetzen sind. This paper seeks to explore the implications of Elias's conceptual framework and of his theoretical-empirical investigations for the study of long-term social processes. It emphasizes the centrality of the non-intentional orderedness of social interdependences and their dynamics for Elias's conception of social `structure' and for his frame of reference (2). It is in this context that his specific concept of `power' has to be understood (3) and acquires primal relevance as a tool for the reconstruction and explanation of the processual structures of long-term societal developments (4). The second part of the paper (4- 7) interprets Elias's studies of `the civilizing process' in the light of the preceding discussion of his theoretical approach, devoting attention to - among other things - the problem of physical force and its monopolization, and to the analysis of `rationalization' (in Weber's sense). The last section (7) hints at the conclusions to be drawn for an adequate understanding and conceptualization of the developmental processes of societies.

Long before "IS" and "Boko Haram", the messianic "Lord's Resistance Army" (LRA) in Uganda was considered as one of the most brutal rebel groups in Africa, or in the world, and as one which clearly specialized in the abduction, "recruitment" and deployment of children and adolescents as ombatants. This book presents the results of a research project on former child soldiers and rebels in northern Uganda and their "reintegration" into society after their return to civilian life. The authors investigate their biographies and the social figurations or relationships between them and members of the civilian population that emerged following their return, not least in their families of origin, and show which conditions facilitate or hinder their "(re)integration" into civilian life. The discussion also shows what distinguishes them from former members of rebel groups in the neighboring region of West Nile, in respect of their history and how they were recruited, as well as in their present situation and social position.

Lange vor "IS" und "Boko Haram" galt die messianisch-christliche "Lord's Resistance Army" (LRA) in Uganda als die vielleicht brutalste Rebellengruppe Afrikas oder der Welt – und als eine, die sich sehr klar auf die Entführung, "Rekrutierung" und den Einsatz Minderjähriger als KämpferInnen spezialisiert hat. Dieses Buch zeigt die Erkenntnisse eines Forschungsprojekts über ehemalige KindersoldatInnen in Norduganda und ihre "Reintegration" in den gesellschaftlichen und familialen Alltag nach ihrer Rückkehr ins zivile Leben. Biographische Verläufe von Ex-KindersoldatInnen vor, während und nach der Zeit ihrer Entführung werden vorgestellt. Die AutorInnen untersuchen, wie sie ins zivile Leben zurückfanden, welche Beziehungsstrukturen oder sozialen Figurationen sich danach zwischen ihnen und den ZivilistInnen sowie insbesondere ihren Herkunftsfamilien beobachten lassen und welche alltagsweltlichen Bedingungen einen Übergang ins zivile Leben erleichtern oder erschweren.

"Zur Sharing Economy werden unterschiedliche Phänomene gezählt, die zwar alle dem Grundsatz 'Nutzen statt Besitzen' folgen, aber nicht immer etwas mit' 'Teilen' im Sinne von Verschenken, Eintauschen oder Ausleihen untereinander zu tun haben. Wenn Geld ins Spiel kommt, verwandelt sich sozialer Tausch in ökonomische Transaktionen. Das Internet ermöglicht kurzzeitige und kleinteilige Geschäfte 'von privat zu privat', die sich früher nicht gelohnt hätten. Die Plattformen, die zwischen Anbietern und Nachfragern vermitteln, stellen zweiseitige Märkte mit zwei Gruppen von Kunden dar: diejenigen, die etwas "teilen" wollen, und jene, die etwas nutzen möchten. Eine Analyse der Logik, nach der diese Plattformen funktionieren, zeigt, dass sie bestimmten Zwängen zum Wachsen um nahezu jeden Preis unterliegen, bei denen gesetzliche oder sonstige Einschränkungen nur hinderlich sind. Das private 'Teilen' gegen Entgelt, das diese Plattformen organisieren, wirft insofern eine Reihe von Fragen auf, die politisch beantwortet werden müssen." (Autorenreferat)

We have conducted interviews with women and men who are victims of collective violence in the region of West Nile in northern Uganda, by the hands either of rebels or of members of various government armies. We show the position and relevancy of their perspectives in public discourses in and about this region. Using biographical-narrative interviews and group discussions, we highlight how their voices are subdued in public discourse in which the ex-rebels present themselves as the victims of history. The interviews illustrate that the narrative interview method is of help also in this non-European research setting as it supports the interviewees to verbalize what they have suffered. The analysis of how collective violence is thematized in the interviews as well as in public discourses brings about important insights into the perspectivity and the biases of these discourses—and how they were generated. "Wie sprechen Menschen, die in der Region West Nile in Norduganda Opfer kollektiver Gewalttaten - insbesondere von Rebellen, aber auch von Angehörigen unterschiedlicher Regierungsarmeen - wurden, über ihre Erfahrungen, und welchen Stellenwert haben ihre Perspektiven im öffentlichen Diskurs in dieser und über diese Region? Anhand von biografisch-narrativen Interviews und Gruppendiskussionen wird aufgezeigt, wie ihre Stimmen im öffentlichen Diskurs unterdrückt werden, indem sich die Exrebellen als Opfer der Geschichte präsentieren. Die Interviews verdeutlichen, dass die Methode des narrativen Interviews auch in diesem nichteuropäischen Forschungsfeld die Befragten bei ihrer Selbstdarstellung und der Verbalisierung des Erlittenen unterstützt. Dabei zeigt sich zugleich, dass eine Untersuchung der Art und Weise, wie kollektive Gewalttaten von Opfern und in öffentlichen Diskursen thematisiert werden, wichtige Erkenntnisse über die Perspektivität und Verzerrungen dieser Diskurse und deren Verursachung ermöglicht. Nicht nur für die Überlebenden, sondern auch für die Analyse der jüngeren Geschichte dieser Region und allgemeiner von (Post-)Konfliktfigurationen ist es daher wichtig, den biografischen Erfahrungen der Opfer kollektiver Gewalt Rechnung zu tragen."
