Forms of Health Service Financing and Their Effect on the Provision of Care
In: The IDS Bulletin, Band 14, Heft 4, S. 38-43
SUMMARY The successful implementation of primary health care is dependent on financing systems that reflect the wider social, economic and political perspectives on which the concept rests. Particular forms of financing health care will affect its provision, organisation and utilisation.
The Political Economy of Primary Care and "Health by the People": An Historical Explanation
In: Issue: a journal of opinion, Band 9, Heft 3, S. 6-13
During the last several years "primary care" has come to the fore as the "new" priority in health care. In September, 1978 the World Health Organization and UNICEF jointly sponsored the first International Conference on Primary Health Care. The following general principles were put forward in 1975 by the 28th World Health Assembly as the basis of successful primary care efforts.1.Primary health care should be shaped around the life patterns of the population it should serve and should meet the needs of the community.2.Primary health care should be an integral part of the national health system and other echelons of services should be designed in support of the needs of the peripheral level, especially as this pertains to technical supply, supervisory, and referral support.

Color and Skill: British Immigration, 1955–1968
In: The International Migration Digest, Band 3, Heft 1, S. 19-37
The factors conditioning immigration to the United Kingdom are analyzed in this article with the view to understand British immigration policy. The volume and place of origin of immigrants, the attitudes held toward immigrants by the British people, the legal and administrative framework placed around immigration, the emigration of highly skilled people from the United Kingdom in more recent years, all these aspects—the author shows—have contributed to the formulation of past governmental decisions and are likely to determine the volume and quality of future British immigration.
