The purpose of this article is to investigate Iranian-Israeli relations, which are based on hate speech and hybrid warfare, but can actually be reduced to a struggle for power and domination. In order to legitimize their military actions against an enemy state, both Iran and Israel must securitize the threat, which means they must convince the public that the opposing state poses an existential threat. Hate speech and aggressive rhetoric are used by both countries and represent a subjective perception of a threat, as well as a legitimizing tool to justify extraordinary measures to counter the threats. Appealing to fears and threats and the method of creating an enemy are well-known political strategies that ensure the legitimacy of power.

This article aims to show the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on international relations and state policy in the Persian Gulf through the prism of realism theory. COVID-19 became a game changer for the domestic politics of the Persian Gulf countries and for the balance of power in that subregion. The application of realism reveals the statecraft of the Arab Persian Gulf during the pandemic to be a struggle for power and its consolidation. Therefore the hypothesis of the article holds that the authoritarian Arab Gulf states used the global COVID-19 pandemic crisis to consolidate and strengthen regime power and conduct humanitarian/mask/COVID-19 diplomacy toward the regimes most affected by the pandemic, shifting the geopolitical landscape. The first part of the article presents the general assumption of the analysis and the theoretical framework. The second and the third respectively discuss domestic and foreign policies of the Arab Persian Gulf states in the face of the pandemic, highlighting strengthening authoritarian tendencies and authoritarian bilateral cooperation. The fourth part relate to the Gulf Cooperation Council and its reaction on COVID-19. The last part draws on the theoretical framework adopted in the article offer conclusions that answer research questions.

The purpose of the article is to show how the type of political system (authoritarian regime) influences the shape of regionalism in the Middle East and to what extent this political system determines the features of cooperation between Arab states. To this end, a hypothesis was put forward according to which the authoritarian political system is a key obstacle to the successful integration and unification of the Middle East. Middle Eastern regionalism serves to protect and legitimize the political power of authoritarian leaders, whereas in Europe it guides to peace, stabilization and development. Authoritarian regionalism tends to reduce democratic ambitions and maintain the authoritarian status quo. In order to verify the hypothesis, the following research questions were posed. First, how is the type of political system related to successful integration? Second, can autocracies work effectively together? To verify the hypothesis and answer the research questions, the author referred to the theories of realism, constructivism, neo-functionalism and the typology of political systems to show that there is no single theory that could fully explain the processes in international relations. The conclusion of this article is that regional organizations created by authoritarian states are only symbolic and instrumental in nature and are oriented towards internal policy (the survival of the regime) rather than regional cooperation.

This paper analyses spatial differences in the voting results in Poland in the 2015 parliamentary elections. Eleven clusters defining different support profiles are determined using the two most popular stopping rules. Parameters of the multinomial logit model are estimated and determinants of Polish communes' membership in specific clusters are identified. The results of the estimation indicate that economic, sociodemographic and location variables strongly determined the Poles' electoral preferences. However, historical and cultural factors turned out to be the most important determinants.

Sectarian tensions in the West Asia have exacerbated with a new power and remain a vital factor influencing relations between Muslim states. In Persian Gulf, sectarianism as a tool used by states comes from Muslim fragmentation into Sunni and Shia branches and is expressed in a hostility towards the opposite group. In reality, this hostility is usually exploited by authoritarian states to reach their goals and interests at the expense of weak or failed states by meddling into their affairs. At the domestic level of the Arab Persian Gulf states, sectarianism is used to maintain domestic regime stability and control internal (Shia) opposition. States are convincing their own societies that Shiite demands and unrests pose a threat for the regime security so the state has a right and duty to undertake sophisticated measures to ensure order. The aim of the article is to show the different dimensions of sectarianism in the Persian Gulf, both on an internal and external level. The article will show how the mechanism of using sectarianism for the state purposes works.

W artykule omawiane jest zagadnienie dobrowolnego zwalniania się z pracy w polskich przedsiębiorstwach w kontekście koncepcji segmentacji rynku pracy. Celem artykułu jest ustalenie, jak segmentacja rynku pracy, określona przez liczbę segmentów stanowisk pracy w przedsiębiorstwach, determinuje częstotliwość dobrowolnego odchodzenia z przedsiębiorstwa przez osoby w nim zatrudnione, a także identyfikacja wpływu innych czynników związanych z organizacją, środowiskiem pracy i cechami osób zatrudnionych na intensywność dobrowolnej rotacyjności w Polsce. W badaniu sformułowano dwa problemy: czy liczba segmentów pracy wewnątrz przedsiębiorstwa wpływa na skalę dobrowolnej rotacyjności w polskich firmach? czy zależność między cechami miejsca pracy a skłonnością do dobrowolnego odejścia z pracy różni się ze względu na segmenty? Wykorzystując dane pochodzące z badania CAWI przeprowadzonego na próbie 1002 polskich firm do oszacowania wielomianowego modelu probitowego, weryfikacji poddano dwie hipotezy: struktura segmentacji stanowisk pracy warunkuje skłonność do dobrowolnych odejść z pracy; determinanty dobrowolnej rotacyjności związane z cechami stanowiska pracy są zróżnicowane pomiędzy segmentami. Wyniki badania empirycznego wskazują, że czynniki strukturalne są głównymi determinantami skłonności do dobrowolnego zwalniania się z pracy, jednakże ich wpływ zależy od segmentu, do którego należy pracownik – tym samym potwierdzono hipotezę drugą. Liczba segmentów rynku pracy okazuje się determinować skłonność do dobrowolnego odchodzenia z pracy jedynie w przypadku pracowników z segmentu pierwotnego, co potwierdza prawdziwość hipotezy pierwszej jedynie częściowo. Główne czynniki wpływające na skłonność do dobrowolnego zwalniania się z pracy są związane z satysfakcją z wykonywanego zajęcia – należy w związku z tym wskazać na ważną rolę działów personalnych oraz praktyk zarządzania w redukcji skali dobrowolnego odchodzenia z pracy w Polsce i innych krajach charakteryzujących się niedoborami po stronie podażowej.

The paper studies upgrading patterns between secondary and primary segments in Polish labour market, with reference to the Segmented Labour Market theory. The type of contact (permanent vs. fixed-term) and wage distribution were used within one framework to define these labour segments. The parameters of binary choice model, based on Labour Force Survey microdata, were estimated to calculate the probabilities of shift from secondary to primary segment, and to identify supply and demand-side determinants of this upgrading. The results are, in general, in line with the trap hypothesis, pointing out to limited chances of upward shift from secondary to primary labour segment. However, this upward mobility has increased in recent years, being a result of changes in real (measured by lowering unemployment rate) and institutional sphere of the Polish labour market. Individual's age, education attainment, propensity to invest in human capital, as well as the size of an enterprise appeared to be the most important divers of inter-segments upgrading. Moreover, regional as well as sectoral differences in probability of upgrading were identified – this probability was higher in the case of workers living in regions with large agglomerations and close proximity to the German labour market.
