In the Caribbean, the relevance and appropriateness of IMF policies continue to be fiercely challenged. This study deals with specific aspects of Grenada's Extended Fund Facility program which was approved by the People's Revolutionary Government (PRG) in mid-1983 and aborted in October of the same year, following the US invasion of the country. It is important to document this experience not only for historical reasons but also because Grenada in 1983 was characterized by certain economic and geopolitical features that contributed to the almost unprecedented nature of the experience

This study highlights the results of an analysis of the effect of financial instability on the performance of financial sector intermediation in Jamaica. It was shown that in some instances, stringencies associated with financial instability can force higher levels of efficiency in relatively large institutions. (Iberoamericana/GIGA)
