Democracy and Popular Rebellion in Contemporary Brazil
In: Journal of developing societies: a forum on issues of development and change in all societies, Band 32, Heft 4, S. 362-381
ISSN: 1745-2546
In contrast to the media portrayal of Brazil as a country on the brink of the abyss, this article shows the resistance opportunities of the social movements organized to defend their rights and to reaffirm their commitment to democracy. The bourgeoisie allied with the congressional conservative faction has attempted to attack the few working-class gains made in recent years through a constitutional coup d'état against the president whose mandate was legitimized at the polls. We, Brazilians, are living through an ideological struggle rich in possibilities for increasing popular political participation, the distribution of wealth, and national sovereignty. Brazil is the key to a South American integration that differs from the interests of the great powers and their corporations. At play is the future of the continent's people.

The Brazilian Arrangements of Radamés Gnattali ; Os arranjos brasileiros de Radamés Gnattali
In this article, we throw light upon the musical arrangements of maestro Radamés Gnattali that were performed in an innovative way in the program A Million Melodies. During the Vargas government, the convergence of capitalist investment with a culture-propagating mass media allowed the popularization and standardization of a new style, which his arrangements facilitated. This transformed pop music and helped samba, above all, become a national symbol. We conclude that the music diffused by the National Radio in the 40s and 50s influenced Brazilian territorial integration and the creation of a national feeling ; Neste artigo, destacamos os arranjos musicais do maestro Radamés Gnattali, executados de forma inovadora no programa Um milhão de melodias.

O PARLAMENTO DO MERCOSUL E A CIDADANIA SUL-AMERICANA
In: Revista Eletrônica de Ciência Política, Band 5, Heft 2
ISSN: 2236-451X
