This paper provides textual evidence of Keynes's writing and composing on issues which are linked to philosophy, moral science and economics. As a philosopher Keynes was concerned with contemporary discussion on knowledge, probability, judgment and methods of reasoning. He participated in the Bloomsbury Group. He developed a distinct view on ethics, egoism, individual and conventional judgment, animal spirits and responsibility. He denied that expectations can be reduced to mathematical calculation. He developed ways to theorize about uncertainty, confidence and the future. The project Keynes as a philosopher is of great importance in English-and French-speaking discourses. Das Ziel des Forschungsvorhabens besteht zum einen darin, die Bedeutungskonstitution zu untersuchen. Zum anderen soll gezeigt werden, dass nationale und internationale monetäre Institutionen in ihren Kommunikationsformen nicht einem linear-kausalen Kommunikationsmodell folgen. Der neue methodische Ansatz versteht sich komplementär zu den formal analytischen Begriffskonstruktionen. Ökonomie als Erfahrungswissenschaft bedarf eines vielfältigen Methodenrepertoires. Die Unabdingbarkeit der Methodenvielfalt resultiert aus dem Mandat der Preisstabilität der Zentralbanken, das sie im Kontext von Unsicherheit über die Steuerung der Erwartungen der Finanzmarktakteure zu erfüllen versuchen. Die Erwartungssteuerung gelingt nicht als lineare Projektion gegebener Erwartungen oder Bedeutungen. Sie gelingt über die Sprachvermitteltheit, die Verwendung von Metaphern und Begriffen in ökonomischen Interaktionen. Bedeutungen sind nicht ex ante gegeben. Der innovative Ansatz soll anhand der Entwicklung der Amerikanischen und Europäischen Zentralbank sowie der Bank für Internationalen Zahlungsausgleich weiterentwickelt und überprüft werden. Das Projekt verbindet den Forschungsstand zu monetären Institutionen mit der Wissenschaftstheorie und Analytischen Philosophie.

Depuis quelques décennies, la recherche économique sur la transparence, la responsabilité et la communication des banques centrales s'est fortement développée. La conception actuelle des banques centrales a abandonné l'hypothèse d'une « boîte noire muette ». Dès lors que les banques centrales ont pris leur distance à l'égard d'une politique « de mystique et d'énigme monétaire » (Goodfriend, 1986), elles ont adopté un large spectre de stratégies et de méthodes de communication dans le but d'éclaircir leurs actions au public. Elles servent ainsi des conférences de presse, des comptes rendu de leurs conférences internes, de publications et ainsi que des interactions orales et écrites. Cette évolution vers une plus grande transparence, une communication ouverte et un principe de responsabilité a engendré de nombreuses recherches et une littérature abondante. Beaucoup de commentaires ont estimé que le chemin de la Réserve Fédérale ainsi que celui de la Banque centrale européenne (BCE) vers la transparence, la responsabilité et la communication ouverte, ont amélioré la compréhension et l'efficacité de leur politique monétaire. Cet article met l'accent sur l'idée que le développement bienvenu vers une plus grande transparence, une communication ouverte et le principe de responsabilité corresponde avec les idées innovantes de John Maynard Keynes, élaborées il y a plusieurs décennies. De plus, cet article souligne que toute tentative de diriger les anticipations du marché par une stratégie de communication inconditionnelle amènerait un risque de décevoir les acteurs de marché dans les situations où une banque centrale serait forcée de changer sa politique en raison des circonstances. This paper introduces a theoretical outline defining the old and new configuration of tripolarity of currencies as an important framework to monetary coordination. The theoretical outline encompasses three dimensions: (i) the designation of unequal, but dominant currencies, which (ii) is itself determined by the international functions of money, and (iii) monetary coordination addressed to central bank policy and exchange rate management. The paper is limited to special remarks regarding these dimensions against certain historical backgrounds. It reviews literature emphasizing that economic interdependencies are no longer identified merely as restrictions on domestic macropolicy as it were throughout the past decades.

This paper outlines the theory of knowledge John Maynard Keynes had developed in his writings. It sheds a light on a different understanding of his central notions like intuition, individual judgment, convention and logic, which is compatible with his view of uncertainty. The reconsideration of his philosophy rejects current attempts to anchor his theory of knowledge against infinite regresses of reason. The movement from categories of truth to categories of knowledge underlines the relativity of the Cambridge Philosophy, of idealisms as well as of empiricism, he already had presented in his philosophical papers. Keynes transformed orthodox categories, which enabled him to analyse economic decision- making in the light of ignorance and uncertainty.
