'In den letzten Jahren gewinnt eine methodisch-technische Ausrichtung der Datenerhebung zunehmend an Bedeutung, die als Ambulatorisches Assessment bezeichnet wird (Fahrenberg et al. 2007). Nicht zuletzt wearable computing Entwicklungen der elektronischen Datenerhebungstechnologien eröffnen auch für die mit Populationsbefragungen arbeitende empirische Sozialforschung eine neue Perspektive in der Anwendung des Ambulatorisches Assessment, das bisher schwerpunktmäßig in der klinisch-psychologischen Forschung betrieben wird (Wilhelm/ Perrez 2008). Nach einer kurzen Kennzeichnung des Ambulatorischen Assessment, wird im folgenden die Leistungsfähigkeit dieses Ansatzes für die Messung subjektiver Befindlichkeiten und physischer und physiologischer Parameter dargestellt. Am Ende wird an einem empirischen Fallbeispiel Machbarkeit und Potential des Ambulatorischen Assessment in der empirische Sozialforschung veranschaulicht.' (Autorenreferat)

The increasing global prevalence of overweight and obesity highlights an urgent need to explore modifiable obesogenic factors. This study investigated the impact of lifestyle factors, such as beer and wine drinking, cigarette smoking, and leisure time screen viewing activities, on body weight and the development of obesity. Individual level data were selected from a random sample of 3471 German adults using a two-stage disproportionate random sampling procedure. The empirical analysis employed a two-stage equations system and combined the endogenous treatment effects model with the quantile regression technique. Our estimations showed that the decisions to smoke and consume wine and beer were positively interrelated, especially in women. Frequent beer/wine drinkers of normal weight were found to have a lower BMI in the male subsample. Quantile regression estimates indicated a significant influence of smoking on BMI in both genders, with smokers' BMI following an upward trend, especially in the upper quantiles of the distribution. Leisure time screen activity was found to have a major impact on females' BMI. Prolonged television viewing and regular computer gaming had a strong relationship with weight increase in overweight women, whereas internet surfing was inversely correlated with the BMI of normal weight and slightly overweight female participants. Nutrition and health policies should direct individuals toward alternative recreational activities in order to substitute screen usage and reduce sedentary time. This study also raised doubts about the general belief that smokers have a lower body weight. As unhealthy behaviors usually co-occur or cluster together, obesity prevention interventions might also contribute to a decrease in smoking.

Internationale Studien haben gezeigt, dass sich seit den 1960er Jahren die Zeit, welche Eltern mit ihren Kindern verbringen, vergrößert hat (Bianchi, 2000; Dotti Sani und Treas, 2016; Gauthier, Smeeding und Furstenberg, 2004; Sullivan und Gershuny, 2001). Dabei ist vor allem bei Müttern ein Anstieg zu beobachten (Bianchi, 2000). Diese Befunde stehen im Gegensatz zu der Theorie der zunehmender Individualisierung (Beck und Beck-Gernsheim, 1992) und der Theorie der Beschleunigung der Lebenszeit (Rosa, 2013), welche vorhersagen, dass sich Menschen immer weniger Zeit für andere nehmen. Somit wäre unter Konstanthaltung der Kinderzahl eher eine Abnahme der elterlichen Zeit für Kinder zu vermuten. In bisherigen Studien wird jedoch nur der Periodeneffekt der Zeit für Kinder analysiert. Um den sozialen Wandel adäquat abzubilden, sollte man jedoch Perioden- von Kohorten- und Alterseffekten trennen (Mannheim, 1952). Vor diesem Hintergrund wird in diesem Beitrag für Mütter untersucht, ob der Trend der zunehmenden Zeit für Kinder nach der Kontrolle für Alters- und Kohorten Effekte bestehen bleibt und wie sich die Kinderbetreuungszeit in unterschiedlichen Geburtskohorten in den letzten Jahrzehnten entwickelt hat. Die Untersuchung konzentriert sich auf Deutschland, da die Identifizierung eines Kohortentrends wichtige Implikationen für die Sozialpolitik hat und die Entstehung von Kohorten stark mit den gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Ereignissen in einem Land verbunden ist.

Background: This study explored the influence of cigarette smoking and food consumption patterns on BMI after adjusting for various socio-demographic characteristics. Since weight-based stereotypes may have an impact on smoking behaviour and both obesity and smoking have been associated with detrimental health effects, an interdependency between them is quite possible.
Methods: Cross-sectional data were collected via a formal standardized questionnaire administered in personal interviews and two additional self-completion questionnaires from a random sample of 3471 German adults. The empirical framework considered potential endogeneity between smoking and body weight by employing an endogenous treatment effects model with an ordered outcome. The estimations derived from the endogenous treatment effects approach were also compared to the univariate ordered
probit model results.
Results: Our findings showed that ignoring potential endogeneity may affect both the statistical significance of the smoking estimate and the direction of the influence of smoking on BMI. Smoking was positively associated with BMI in both male (β= 1.236, p< 0.01) and female (β= 0.634, p< 0.10) participants. Smokers presented a 23.1% higher risk of obesity and a 24.3% lower likelihood of being within a healthy weight range. Male smokers also appeared to have a considerably augmented probability of being obese compared to their female counterparts (23.6% vs 15.1%). The relationship between smoking and BMI may be attributed to dietary practices, since smoking was correlated with poor dietary habits characterized by the frequent intake of more energy-dense foods (meat products and white-toasted bread) and less frequent consumption of healthy food items, such as whole-grain bread, vegetables and fruits. Concerning the impact of eating habits on body weight, frequent consumption of meat products and confectionery was found to have a direct association with BMI in both genders. Furthermore, white-toasted bread consumption was negatively linked with body weight in males (β= −0.337, p< 0.01).
Conclusions: Our findings raised questions about the general belief that smoking is an effective weight control tool. Health interventions should be oriented toward a simultaneous decrease in smoking and obesity, since both behaviours seem to be interdependent. Nutrition programmes should also be designed according to the characteristics of different target groups in order to promote a healthy lifestyle.

'Die Messung des Haushaltseinkommens ist besonders stark vom Problem des item-nonresponse betroffen. So beträgt der Anteil der fehlenden Werte im ALLBUS 1996 trotz Nachfrage mit Einkommenskategorien 26 (Westdeutschland) bzw. 19 Prozent (Ostdeutschland). Beim Eurobarometer 1992 liegt der Ausfall zwischen 6 und fast 50 Prozent. In der Forschungspraxis wird der Datenausfall oft entweder ignoriert oder durch einfache Imputationen, d.h. durch Zuweisung von Mittelwerten korrigiert. Diese Vorgehensweisen werden von Rubin (1987) in Frage gestellt, der statt dessen eine multiple Imputation befürwortet. Mit dieser Methode werden die fehlenden Werte mehrfach rekonstruiert, wobei jedesmal die Unsicherheit der auf einer Regressionsgleichung basierenden Einkommenschätzung berücksichtigt wird. Das vorliegende Papier untersucht am Beispiel der Eurobarometerdaten von 1992, welche Folgen eine einfache versus multiple Rekonstruktion der fehlenden Einkommenswerte für die Schätzung des Einkommenseffektes auf die Lebenszufriedenheit hat.' Time pressure of parents has become an important policy agenda in many contemporary societies. This study aims to examine the association between parental childcare time and subjective time pressure (feeling rushed) by taking into account different types of diurnal activity patterns. From the background of time fragmentation as a structural source of time pressure we introduce two specific types of diurnal time use activities, namely activity resumption and activity switching. As activity resumption denotes that the same kind of activity is repeatedly shown over the day, activity switching indicates the diurnal substantive variety of activities. Our research question is aimed a examining if these activity patterns covariate with parental childcare time use and to what extent they add are connected with subjective time pressure. Analyzing the original timeline raw data of 6,812 diary entries from the 2014 Korean Time Use Study (KTUS) we focused on working parents with children aged 18 or younger. Overall, we found that activity resumption is positively related to subjective time pressure, while activity switching negatively correlates with subjective time pressure. While we did not find a significant effect of time spent for childcare on feeling rushed, we found that time use for childcare is negatively correlated with activity resumption, but positively with activity switching intensity. Having young children compared to having teenagers in the family significantly goes with more feeling rushed, while having young children means less activity switching and less activity resumption. Finally, our results point to a significant parents' gender differentiation of the covariation of subjective time pressure, diurnal activity change pattern and child care time use.
