En estas páginas se trata de analizar cómo la Economía política y los «economistas» del siglo XVIII valoraron los efectos de la paulatina integración de la economía nacional. La omnipresencia de traginers y mercancías catalanas, venía a expresar el ocaso de unos mercados regionales hasta entonces fuera de la competencia exterior por la protección natural que brindaban la distancia y altos costes de transacción. Al amparo de tales barreras, cada comarca había tendido a la autosuficiencia mercantil y a producir «un poco de todo». La vertebración del mercado no dejó de suscitar críticas y rechazos por las asimetrías que se constataban en la distribución de las ganancias asociadas a la ampliación de la demanda. Por lo mismo, la Economía política, vistas las diferencias competitivas entre regiones, buscará argumentos sobre los que legitimar la preservación de los equilibrios que sustentaban el orden económico tradicional. En aquella tarea, la «economía moral será una de las armas esgrimidas frente a los dictados de un orden natural gobernado por la «mano invisible» y el «interés» particular. ; These pages are an attempt to explain how political economy and 18th century economists analysed the effects of a gradual integration of the Spanish national economy. The omnipresence of traginers and Catalan merchandises was a clear sign of the end of regional markets which, up to those days, had been situated away from external competition and enjoyed the natural protection which both, distance and high transaction prices, offered. Protected by those boundaries, each region had a tendency to commercial self-sufficiency and to produce «a little of everything». The internal organization of markets did not cease to attract criticism and disapproval, due to the asymmetries which were made evident in the distribution of the profits associated with demand increase. For the same reason, given the existence of regional competition, Political economy found arguments which allowed the entitlement of balance preservation, which supported the traditional economic order. In that task, the «moral economy» was one of the weapons wielded again the mandates of a natural order which was governed by the «invisible hand» and by personal «interest».

En este artículo se busca establecer los posibles puntos de contacto entre las reformas promovidas por el Gobierno de Buenos Aires de 1821 a 1824, la denominada "feliz experiencia", y los procesos reformistas que se llevaron a cabo en distintas regiones de Europa antes y después de la Revolución Francesa. Se hará mención a las reformas Borbónicas en el Virreinato del Río de la Plata y la experiencia política que experimentó ese territorio después de la Revolución de Mayo de 1810. El propósito de estas comparaciones y analogías es el de intentar medir la dimensión de la reformas promovidas en Buenos Aires durante ese período. ; This article is an attempt to establish the posible connections between the reforms that took place in the Province of Buenos Aires during the 1821-1824 period, the so-called "feliz experiencia", and the reform process that occurred in diverse regions of Europe, before and after the French Revolution. This study also makes reference of the Bourbon reforms put forward by the Spanish Empire in the Viceroyalty of the River Plate and the political development that took place in the River Plate after the May revolution of 1810. [ESP] Tras la Guerra de Sucesión y el cambio dinástico, Cartagena va a experimentar a lo largo del siglo XVIII una de las mayores transformaciones urbanas de su historia. La creación del Departamento Marítimo de Levante, con un arsenal asociado, supone la proyección y ejecución de numerosas obras para convertirla en la base de la Real Armada en el Mediterráneo. Las reformas borbónicas abarcan todos los ámbitos y en ellas participan los mejores ingenieros del Ejército y de la Marina, que ponen de manifiesto su excelente formación. Este trabajo aborda una de esas obras, la nueva fortificación urbana. A través de los distintos proyectos y de las planimetrías que los acompañan se analiza cómo fueron evolucionado las propuestas a lo largo de algo más de medio siglo hasta llegar al reinado de Carlos III, cuando se materializa una muralla abaluartada de casi cinco kilómetros de extensión. The creation of the Marine Department Levante associated with an arsenal represents the design and implementation of numerous works to make it the base of the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean. The Bourbon reforms covering all areas and they involve the best engineers of the Army and Navy, and highlighting his excellent training. This paper addresses one of those works, the new urban fortification. Through various projects and floor plans that accompanies discussed how they were developed proposals along more than half a century until the reign of Carlos III when a bastion walls of almost five kilometers long materializes.

En este artículo se pretende reflexionar sobre las formas en las que se hace historia de la filosofía; en particular, sobre el modo en el que se cuenta la historia de la Ilustración. Para ello, se analiza un reciente libro de Antony Pagden con la intención de echar luz sobre una práctica que parece resultar frecuente en la historiografía de este movimiento cultural y filosófico del siglo XVIII: la de su uso político. El trabajo está dividido en dos partes: primero, se realiza una crítica académica, concentrando la atención en el modo en el que Pagden construye su relato de la Ilustración. Luego, se realiza una exégesis política para clarificar qué propósitos parece haber perseguido el autor al momento de publicar su obra. En la conclusión, finalmente, se realizan una serie consideraciones de carácter metafilosófico. ; This article aims to consider how the history of philosophy is being made, mainly how the Enlightenment's history is being told. To this end, it analyses a recent book by Antony Pagden to clarify a practice that seems to be frequent in the historiography of this cultural and philosophical movement of the 18th century: that of its political use. The work is divided into two parts: first, there is an academic critique, concentrating on how Pagden constructs his story of the Enlightenment. Then, a political exegesis is carried out to clarify what purposes the author seems to have pursued at the time of publication of his work. In the conclusion, finally, a series of considerations of a metaphilosophical nature are made.

The hospital, as architectural typology, suffered an important metamorphosis in the stage of the Enlightenment. The marked and growing attention of the public administrations to this type of buildings, besides the campaigns of the hygienists, they cooperated to the creation of unpublished models; in which the pavilion structure was the most accepted one. These novel approaches on the hospital architecture will show fully in Cuba during the XIX century, where diverse experiences are verified throughout the island. The contribution of the military engineers of the Spanish army was essential for the development of these knowledge in overseas territories, because they were the main planners of these constructive efforts. The present work analyzes the events related with the building-hospital in the Cuban main cities of the nineteenth period and it evaluates the importance of these facts for the history of the cuban architecture. ; El hospital, como tipología arquitectónica, sufrió una importante metamorfosis en la etapa de la Ilustración. La marcada y creciente atención de las administraciones públicas a este tipo de edificios, junto a las campañas del pensamiento higienista de la época, coadyuvaron a la creación de modelos inéditos, dentro de los cuales la ordenación en pabellones fue la más aceptada. Estos novedosos criterios sobre la arquitectura hospitalaria se manifestaron plenamente en Cuba durante el siglo XIX, donde se constatan diversas experiencias a lo largo de la isla. La contribución de los ingenieros militares del ejército español fue esencial para el desarrollo de estos conocimientos en territorios de ultramar, pues resultaron los principales proyectistas de dichos empeños constructivos. El presente trabajo analiza los eventos relacionados con el edificio-hospital en las principales ciudades cubanas del período decimonónico y evalúa la importancia de estos hechos para la historia de la arquitectura cubana.

[Resumen] La España del sigloXVIII asiste al renacimiento de su política naval con la creación de importantes infraestructuras militares (arsenales) e inversión tecnológica (navíos de línea). Sin embargo, por lo que respecta al ámbito costero desde la óptica civil, el análisis del estado de los puertos que no tenían un estricto interés estratégico y militar, es decir, los comerciales y pesqueros, se aprecia una situación en la que se alternan la destrucción y el deterioro con las reiteradas peticiones de los gremios de marineros para mejorar los muelles, diques y construcciones anexas. En Asturias podemos afirmar que la práctica totalidad de las demandas de auxilio serán atendidas administrativamente (elaboración de proyectos, planificación de impuestos para sufragar las obras, frecuentes visitas de los ingenieros militares), lo que no equivale a que se ejecutaran de manera completa, perfecta o siquiera que garantizaran una perdurabilidad en el tiempo que fuera más allá de algunos lustros. ; [Abstract] In the eighteenth century Spanish naval policy experienced a renaissance with the building of important military infrastructures (arsenals) and investment in technology (ships of the line). As regards the country's coasts from a civil perspective, however, an analysis of its commercial and fishing ports, which were not strictly of any strategic or military interest, paints a picture in which their deterioration and ruination alternated with the repeated requests of the sailors' guilds for improvements to be made to quays, docks and associated outbuildings. In Asturias, it can be claimed that practically all the requests for assistance were heeded by the administration (the drafting of projects, the planning of taxes to defray building costs, the frequent visits of military engineers, etc.), although this does not mean to say that they were fully met or guaranteed their sustainability for more than a few decades

The article analyses the writings published by Pietro Verri on the issues of the Caffè, one of the most important periodicals of the Italian Enlightenment, founded in a cultural climate marked by optimism towards enlightened absolutism. The work is a contribution to the lively and open debate on the aesthetic and literary thought of Pietro Verri. In the first place, the work follows Verri's reflections on the problem of the Italian language. Secondly, the work explores Pietro's aesthetic-literary thought, with particular attention to the writings on theatre and comedy. Verri reflects organically on these problems and develops an analysis of the passions of the human being. The author explains the function perform by the sentiment in the psychological and physiological processes that constitute the consciousness. Finally, the article analyses the repercussions of this aesthetic-psychological thought in the dimension of morality and politics. The analysis of these literary and aesthetic writings can enrich the historiographical picture of Pietro Verri. Despite the aristocratic conception of culture and politics, the author elaborates the cultural presuppositions of an intersubjective conception, which prefigures the political contract between free and equal individuals. Pietro's reflections refer therefore to a set of unresolved issues, around which moderates and democrats will conflict in the years of the Revolution.

Los esfuerzos pioneros de particulares por aclimatar en Málaga plantas exóticas en las últimas décadas del siglo XVIII fueron apoyados por el Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid y llevados a cabo por ilustrados como José García Sevilla, los hermanos Pedro y José Ortega Monroy, y José de Gálvez. Esas variadas experiencias coincidieron con el auge en el interés por las plantas medicinales autóctonas, la realización de inventarios en los bosques con especies maderables y la creación del jardín botánico del Ejército anejo a la Real Botica de la ciudad, ambos comprometidos con el suministro de medicamentos a las guarniciones militares nacionales en el norte de África.English. The pioneering efforts of private individuals to acclimatize exotic plants in Málaga (Spain) in the last decades of the 18th century were supported by the Royal Botanic Garden ('Real Jardín Botánico') of Madrid and carried out by people of the Enlightenment such as José García Sevilla, the brothers Pedro and José Ortega Monroy, and José de Gálvez. These varied experiences coincided with the boom in interest in indigenous medicinal plants, inventories in forests with timber species and the creation of the botanical garden of the Army annexed to the Royal Pharmacy ('Real Botica') of the city, both committed to the supply of medicines to the national military garrisons in North Africa.

The article pretends to analyse the importance of travelogue in the press of the second half of the 18th century, especially the eighties, its high period. A first section deals with real travelogues included in the press, in line with the characteristic enlightened concept prodesse et delectare, which means instructing the readership in an amusing way about 'foreign character and customs'. In a second section there is a study about fictitious and imaginary travelogues whose main function is to become a medium for political and social critic. ; El artículo se plantea analizar la importancia del relato de viaje en la prensa de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, más concretamente de la década de los ochenta, su época de mayor apogeo. Una primera parte se ocupa de los relatos de viaje reales que incluye la prensa con la intención principal, en el marco del prodesse et delectare tan propio de la Ilustración, de instruir de forma amena a sus lectores sobre el 'carácter y las costumbres de las naciones extranjeras'. A continuación se estudian aquellos relatos de viajes imaginados o ficticios cuya principal función es servir de soporte para realizar a través de ellos una crítica social y política.
