The article focuses on the study of possibilities of implementing the concept of historical memory, which has been widely used in recent scientific and practical activities. The following tasks contributed to the realization of the intended goal: analysis of historiographical situation that contributed to the formation of a new scientific direction; study of the method of publishing sources; consideration of the prospect of using collections of documents and materials in the practice of memorialization. The research is based on the concept of historical memory, which is reflected in the works of A. Bergson, M. Halbwachs, Ya. Assman, P. Riker, P. Nor, and others. When writing the article, the achievements of domestic researchers Zh. Toshchenko, L. Repin, and L. Mazur were actively used. Methods of source studies, comparative, critical, conceptual and problem analysis of texts contributed to a comprehensive disclosure of the topic. The relevance of the article is connected with a few aspects: 1) one of the perspective concepts used by scientists in the study of the problem of preserving historical and cultural heritage is the concept of place of memory; 2) defining the formation of cultural and historical code as the main task of historical memory, the authors of the article suggested that collections of documents and materials to a much greater extent than many other phenomena of material and spiritual culture can be identified in the modern humanitarian space as significant places of memory. Such symbolic constructs are particularly relevant for localities and regions of Russia, where a significant part of archaeological and architectural monuments has been destroyed or is at the last stage of destruction. The material of the study was unique eyewitness accounts of historical events included in the Set of documents on the history and culture of Mordovia. The analysis of experience of Mordovian scientists, who identified and published a significant body of historical sources in the shortest possible time, showed their wide thematic and chronological range. Thematically, military-patriotic publications that chronologically relate to the first half of the XIX and the first half of the XX century predominate. Presenting modern publications of sources as an established form of translation and actualization of cultural meanings, a way of preserving historical and cultural heritage, the authors suggested that purposeful activities to expand such places of memory (such as collections of documents and materials) should be expanded and deepened. Its promising areas are the key problems of regional history national policy of the 1920-ies and 1930-ies, collectivization, industrialization, and so on. ; Целью статьи стало исследование возможностей воплощения концепции исторической памяти, широко используемой в последнее время в научно-практической деятельности. Реализация намеченной цели предполагает решение следующих задач: анализ историографической ситуации, способствовавшей формированию нового научного направления; изучение методики публикации источников; рассмотрение перспектив использования сборников документов и материалов в практике мемориализации. В основу исследования положена концепция исторической памяти, нашедшая отражение в трудах А. Бергсона, М. Хальбвакса, Я. Ассмана, П. Рикера, П. Нора и др. При написании статьи активно использовались наработки отечественных исследователей Ж. Тощенко, Л.П. Репина, Л.Н. Мазур. Всестороннему раскрытию темы способствовали методы источниковедческого, сравнительного, критического, концептуального и проблемного анализа текстов. Актуальность проблематики статьи связана с несколькими аспектами: 1) одним из перспективных концептов, используемых учеными при исследовании проблемы сохранения историко-культурного наследия, является понятие место памяти; 2) определяя в качестве главной задачи исторической памяти формирование культурно-исторического кода, авторы статьи предположили, что сборники документов и материалов в гораздо большей степени, чем многие другие явления материальной и духовной культуры, могут идентифицироваться в современном гуманитарном пространстве в качестве значимых мест памяти. Особую актуальность подобные символические конструкты имеют для населенных пунктов и областей России, где значительная часть археологических и архитектурных памятников была уничтожена или находится на последней стадии разрушения. В качестве материала исследования выступили уникальные свидетельства очевидцев исторических событий, вошедшие в Свод документов по истории и культуре Мордовии. Анализ опыта мордовских ученых, в кратчайшие сроки выявивших и опубликовавших значительный корпус исторических источников, показал их широкий тематический и хронологический спектр. Тематически преобладают издания военно-патриотической направленности, хронологически касающиеся первой половины XIX и первой половины XX в. Представляя современные публикации источников в качестве устоявшейся формы трансляции и актуализации культурных смыслов, способа сохранения историко-культурного наследия, авторы предположили, что целенаправленная деятельность по расширению таких мест памяти (какими являются сборники документов и материалов) должна быть расширена и углублена. В качестве ее перспективных направлений выступают ключевые проблемы региональной истории национальная политика 19201930-х гг., коллективизация, индустриализация и т. д.

Focusing on the memorialization, sacralization and politicization of madness through the case of the holy-madman Şeywuşen (Hüseyin Tatar, 1930–95), this dissertation explores the relationship between the political and spiritual spheres in the heavily militarized and politically contested landscape of Dersim (officially Tunceli) in eastern Turkey, the only city in Turkey where the Kurdish-Alevi population forms a majority. Tracing the life story of Şeywuşen allows reassessing the historical events that became landmarks in the collective memory of the contested landscape of Dersim: the genocidal violence experienced in 1915 and in 1938, the coup d'état of 1980 and military clashes between the Kurdish movement and the Turkish Armed Forces in the 1990s. Using historical and ethnographic material collected in Dersim, along with oral history interviews conducted with members of the Dersim diaspora living in Germany, the dissertation analyzes the ways in which the identity of Şeywuşen as a holy-madman is constructed as a metaphor for the injury caused by the racialized and secularized state violence and the source of therapeutic power to heal that injury. Analyzing the ways in which Şeywuşen has been memorialized and sacralized, the dissertation explores the particular experience of the political in a region that has been pathologized and labelled as "irrational" by diverse political actors throughout the late Ottoman period and in modern Turkey. Through a gendered analysis of the narrated reasons for Şeywuşen's madness, it frames the formation of the holy-mad identity as the process of affliction of otherness that has been attributed to the region. Looking at rituals and practices woven around holy-mad figures, it conceptualizes holy-madness as a site where a brutally silenced past haunts the present in creative ways that allows bounded temporalities to be transcended and to construct different identity claims. The inauguration of a statue of Şeywuşen in Dersim during the 1990s enables an analysis of the limits of heroic and militarist representation in the Turkish public sphere. The dissertation proposes that tracing the political connotations of holy-madness challenges the limits of what can be articulated in the realm of politics through a special emphasis on what is not conducive to be instrumentalized by political or social movements. Shifting attention from what state violence destroys to what it produces, this dissertation contributes not only to studies on the Middle East but also to the history and anthropology of state violence. With its focus on the sacred characteristics of madness, it offers an original contribution to the contemporary literature on politics, which is widely discussed within the secular rational framework. Bringing into conversation the literature on space, state violence, and emotions, it illustrates that space-making cannot be thought of separately from the inscription of its spatial emotional regime. The dissertation also contributes to the literature on secularism by examining the challenge that representations of holy-madness, and the devotional practices woven around it, pose to secular conceptions of politics. ; Anhand der Biografie des göttlichen Wahnsinnigen (budela) Şeywuşen (Hüseyin Tatar, 1930-1995) untersucht diese Dissertation das Verhältnis von göttlichem Wahnsinn und staatlich-finanzierter Gewalt in der politisch heftig umstrittenen Region um Dersim (offiziell Tunceli) in der Ost-Türkei. Der Lebensgeschichte Şeywuşens folgend, denkt die Dissertation die politische Geschichte Dersims, der einzigen Stadt in der Türkei, in der die alevitisch-kurdische Bevölkerung in der Mehrheit ist, neu. Das Nachzeichnen der Lebensgeschichte Şeywuşens erlaubt eine Neubewertung der historischen Ereignisse, die eine zentrale Rolle im kollektiven Gedächtnis des umstrittenen Dersims spielen: die genozidale Gewalt von 1915 und 1938, der Staatsstreich von 1980 und die militärischen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen der kurdischen Bewegung und der türkischen Armee. Auf Grundlage historischer und ethnologischer Quellen aus Dersim und Oral History Interviews mit Mitgliedern der Dersimdiaspora in Deutschland analysiert die Dissertation die Rolle von staatlicher Gewalt in Narrativen und die emotionale Bindung an Figuren des göttlichen Wahnsinns. Durch die Analyse der Formen von Memorialisierung und Sakralisierung Şeywuşens untersucht die Dissertation die besondere Erfahrung des Politischen in einer Region, die durch diverse politische Akteure seit dem späten Osmanischen Reich und in der gesamten türkischen Geschichte immer wieder pathologisiert und als "irrational" bezeichnet worden ist. Mithilfe einer Genderanalyse der vorgebrachten Gründe für Şeywuşens Wahnsinn fasst diese Studie die Entstehung einer Identität des göttlichen Wahnsinns als einen Prozess auf, der aus der Zuschreibung der Region als das "Andere" entsteht. Indem sie Rituale und Praktiken um Figuren des göttlichen Wahnsinns untersucht, konzeptualisiert die Dissertation den göttlichen Wahnsinn als einen Ort, an dem gewaltsam unterdrückte Vergangenheit und emotionale Bindungen ausgedrückt werden. Der Fokus auf die Errichtung der Statue Şeywuşens in der politischen Atmosphäre der 1990er Jahre erlaubt es, die Grenzen heroischer und militaristischer Repräsentation in der türkischen Öffentlichkeit aufzuzeigen. Die Dissertation regt an, dass die Analyse der politischen Konnotationen des göttlichen Wahnsinns die Grenzen des Sagbaren im politischen Raum in Frage stellt. Dabei achtet sie besonders auf das, was nicht durch politische oder soziale Bewegungen instrumentalisiert werden kann. Indem sie die Aufmerksamkeit von dem, was staatliche Gewalt zerstört, auf das lenkt, was Gewalt hervorbringt, leistet diese Dissertation nicht nur einen Beitrag zu Studien des Nahen und Mittleren Ostens, sondern auch zur Geschichte und Anthropologie von staatlicher Gewalt. Durch ihren Fokus auf die göttlichen Eigenschaften von Wahnsinn trägt sie mit einem neuen Blickwinkel zur derzeitigen Literatur über das Politische bei, die größtenteils im säkular-rationalen Bereich bleibt. Indem sie die Literatur über Raum, staatliche Gewalt und Emotionen miteinander ins Gespräch bringt, zeigt die Studie, dass die Aushandlung von Raum untrennbar von den räumlichen emotionalen Ordnungen ist. Außerdem trägt die Dissertation zur Literatur des Säkularismus bei, indem sie die Herausforderung untersucht, die die Repräsentation göttlichen Wahnsinns und der damit verbundenen Andachtspraktiken an säkulare Konzepte des Politischen stellt.

The article analyzes the processes of postwar development of Germany from the point of view of implementing measures to denazify and disqualify persons who have tarnished themselves under theHitler regime, the specifics of the formation and stages of the formation of the policy of "overcoming the past" in the national memory of postwar Germany. The author, singling out four different stagesand depths of understanding, clarifies the problems of the formation and development of this policy from posing the "problem of guilt", the differentiation of its types with respect to the common andexcellent policies of the two German states, the role of the international political context and the reconstruction of the historical truth regarding the Third Reich and conditions for the formation ofculture of memory in modern Germany. The strengths and weaknesses of West Germany's ambivalent policy with regard to its identity are analyzed through clear disassociation from the Nazi past and, on the other hand, the broad integration of former Nazis into new public institutions as an option to win democracy in Germany despite the post-war moods of most of its citizens. The immediate significance of the succession of generations in the political arena, the public study of the Nazi past and the establishment of a new political culture in public discourse are underlined. Its main elements were the memory and responsibility of generations for the Holocaust and the strengthening of the national identity of the Germans through "constitutional patriotism". In the united Germany, the comprehension of the totalitarian past, which took place quite intensively and resulted not only in public discussions, but also contributed to the memorialization and commemoration of historical memory, the reparation to victims of Nazism and forced workers of the Third Reich from different countries and the restoration of justice to all those affected by the so-called policy "Arization" and measures to return property and cultural values to their heirs, is fairly effective. The policy of "overcoming the past" contributed to the achievement of a public consensus of the national memory of the modern FRG regarding the recognition of the crimes of the Nazi period and the making of lessons from the past. As in any other Western society, in Germany the attitude towards the Holocaust is the cornerstone of the memory of the Second World War and the symbol of the crimes of Nazism, as well as the central historical event of the XX century. ; У статті аналізуються процеси повоєнного поступу Німеччини під кутом зору здійснення заходів щодо денацифікації й дискваліфікації осіб, що заплямували себе під час гітлерівськогорежиму, та особливостей становлення і етапів формування політики «подолання минулого» в національній пам'яті повоєнної Німеччини. Автор, виділяючи чотири різні за часом таглибиною осмислення етапи, з'ясовує проблеми формування та розвитку цієї політики від постановки «проблеми вини», диференціації її типів щодо спільного і відмінного політик двох німецьких держав, ролі міжнародного політичного контексту та відтворення історичної правди щодо Третього рейху і умов формування культури пам'яті у сучасній ФРН. Аналізуються сильні й уразливі сторони двоїстої політики Західної Німеччини щодо її самоідентифікації завдяки чіткому відмежуванню від нацистського минулого, а з іншого боку – широкої інтеграції колишніх нацистів до нових суспільних інститутів як варіанту домогтися перемоги демократії у ФРН усупереч повоєнним настроям більшості громадян. Підкреслюється безпосереднє значення зміни поколінь на політичній арені, публічного опрацювання нацистського минулого та утвердження у суспільному дискурсі нової політичної культури. Її головними елементами стали пам'ять і відповідальність поколінь за Голокост та зміцнення національної ідентичності німців шляхом «конституційного патріотизму». У об'єднаній Німеччині осмислення тоталітарного минулого, що проходило доволі інтенсивно і виливалося не лише у публічні дискусії, але й сприяло мемореалізації та комеморації історичної пам'яті, відшкодуванню жертвам нацизму та примусовим робітникам Третього рейху із різних країн й відновлення справедливості щодо усіх постраждалих від так званої політики «аризації» і заходам щодо повернення майна та культурних цінностей їх спадкоємцям, є досить результативним. Політика «подолання минулого» сприяла досягненню громадського консенсусу в національній пам'яті сучасної ФРН щодо визнання злочинівнацистського періоду і винесення уроків з минулого. Як і в будь-якому іншому західному суспільстві, у Німеччині ставлення до Голокосту є наріжним каменем пам'яті про Другу світову війну і символом злочинів нацизму та центральною історичною подією ХХ ст.

Метою статті є дослідження історичної політики Другої Речі Посполитої у 1920-х–1930-х роках. на західноукраїнських землях, пов'язаних з відновленням польської державності. Методологія наукового дослідження ґрунтується на основі загальнонаукових і спеціальних історичних методів з урахуванням базових принципів історичного пізнання. Принципи історизму та науковості дозволили відтворити історичну політику Другої Речі Посполитої на західноукраїнських землях в усій її складності та багатоманітності, у взаємозв'язку і взаємозумовленості з тогочасними подіями. Принцип об'єктивності допоміг підійти до розгляду окресленої проблематики з урахуванням об'єктивних історичних закономірностей, з критичним аналізом літературно-джерельної бази. Принцип системності дозволив сформувати цілісну картину відповідних комеморативних практик. Наукова новизна роботи полягає в тому, що тут уперше на основі широкої джерельної бази досліджено проблему відображення історичного сюжету відновлення Польщі у владній політиці пам'яті на західноукраїнських землях. У результаті автор приходить до висновку, що «пам'ять» про відновлення держави активно впроваджувались на всій її території, в тому числі і на західноукраїнських землях. Через відповідну історичну політику польська влада намагалась інтегрувати західноукраїнські землі в єдиний соціокультурний простір, створення якого було доволі важким питанням для повоєнної Польщі. Історичні сюжети та різного роду комеморації ставали уніфікованими для всієї території держави. Частина ж локальних сюжетів, наприклад, «львівські орлята» чи бої легіонерів під Костюхнівкою стали загальнодержавними, що посилило позицію польського державного наративу в західноукраїнському регіоні. Доведено активність меморіалізації західноукраїнських міст, що призводило до заповнення простору пам'яті польськими символами. Також розглядається питання формалізму та одноманітності польських комеморативних практик в Західній Україні. ; The aim of the article is to study the politics of memory of the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 1920s–1930s in Western Ukraine associated with the restoration of the Polish statehood. The methodology of scientific research is based on general scientific and special historical methods, including the basic principles of historical perception. The principles of historicism and scientific character of research enabled the author to recreate the politics of memory of the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in Western Ukraine in all its complexity and diversity, as well as in interrelation and interdependence with the events of that time. The principle of objectivity facilitated the consideration of the outlined problems taking into account objective historical patterns and a critical analysis of the reference database. The principle of consistency provided the means to form a complete account of the corresponding commemorative practices. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time the problem of reflecting the historical subject of the restoration of Poland in the political power of memory in Western Ukraine is studied on the basis of a big archive database. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that the "memory" of the state restoration was actively implemented throughout its territory, including Western Ukraine. Due to the corresponding politics of memory, the Polish authorities tried to integrate Western Ukraine into a single social and cultural space, the creation of which was quite a difficult task for the postwar Poland. Historical subjects and various kinds of commemorations became unified on the entire territory of the state. Some of the local subjects, for example, "Lviv Eaglets" or the battles of legionnaires near Kostiukhnivka became national, and strengthened the position of the Polish state narrative in Western Ukrainian region. The author argues that the activity of memorialization in Western Ukrainian cities led to the filling of the memory space with Polish symbols. The paper considers the issue of formalism and monotony of Polish commemorative practices in Western Ukraine. ; Celem artykułu jest zbadanie polityki historycznej II Rzeczypospolitej w latach 20. i 30. XX wieku na zachodnich ziemiach ukraińskich związanych z przywróceniem państwowości polskiej. Metodologia badań naukowych oparta jest na ogólnych naukowych i specjalnych metodach historycznych, biorąc do uwagi podstawowe zasady poznania historycznego. Zasady historyzmu i naukowości pozwoliły na odtworzenie polityki historycznej II Rzeczypospolitej na ziemiach zachodnioukraińskich w całej jej złożoności i różnorodności, w związku i współzależności z wydarzeniami tamtych czasów. Zasada obiektywizmu pomogła podejść do analizy określonego problemu, biorąc do uwagi obiektywe regularności historyczne, z krytyczną analizą literatury i bazy źródłowej. Zasada systematyczności pozwoliła stworzyć całościowy obraz odpowiednich praktyk upamiętnienia. Oryginalnością naukową pracy jest to, że po raz pierwszy na podstawie szerokiej bazy źródłowej podjęto problem wyświetlania historycznej fabuły odbudowy Polski w rządowej polityce pamięci na zachodnich ziemiach ukraińskich. W wyniku autor stwierdza, że "pamięć" o odbudowie państwa była aktywnie wprowadzana na całym jego terytorium, włącznie na zachodniej Ukrainie. Ze względu na odpowiednią politykę historyczną polski rząd starał się zintegrować zachodnie ziemie ukraińskie w jedną przestrzeń społeczno-kulturową, której stworzenie było dla powojennej Polski zagadnieniem dość trudnym. Na całym terytorium państwa zunifikowano wątki historyczne i różnego rodzaju upamiętnienia. Niektóre z tutejszych wątków, jak np. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to consider the history and dark tourism attractions associated with a case study of the Thai-Burma Railway in the city of Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The paper considers how history has been abridged and distorted at a number of attraction sites in order to exploit the dark tourism commercial potential. The role of filmmedia is considered as a critical element of the site narrative and the reality of the tragic past of this place is discussed within the context of Thailand's role in the Second World War. Kanchanaburi, through the urban attractions that constitute the primary motivations for visitation, distorts and exploits its dark history for commercial and ideological purposes. Where accurate the Second World War interpretation was identified, it was maintained by balancing the requirements of national governments and institutions with acceptable levels of ambiguity and non-controversial perspectives on this urban location's dark past. Design/methodology/approach - The paper draws on literature, historical documents and tourism publications related to the Second World War and the incarceration and forced labour associated with the Thai-Burma Railway and the city of Kanchanaburi. Fieldwork incorporating tourist attraction and commemorative site visitation was undertaken in Northern Thailand in January 2017. Curators, managers, operators and tourist authorities were contacted in advance of the fieldwork by e-mail to request interviews. The sites identified were the primary sites visited by tourists, and no related Second World War site in the area was excluded. For those interviewed in relation to the subject area, a standard questionnaire based on a rolling database, relevant to particular sites was utilised. Interviews were taped and transcribed. Findings - The city of Kanchanaburi is defined by a heritage that has changed over time. Many factors imbue the meanings and content of place. This is a function of a plethora of competing Influences and agendas; political, economic, cultural, demographic and historical. Yet, this destination is defined by the dark history of the Second World War which is associated with this place. The visitor attraction sites considered in Kanchanaburi provide multiple narratives around the Second World War events. They offer a range of content driven by influences as diverse as simple commercial gain to the complex interaction of political, economic and ideological agendas (of. Gegner, 2012). In each case, the interpretation is used to articulate heritage through objects, artefacts, audio recording, place or imagery. These elements exist in environment(s) of their creation; the Second World War heritage of Kanchanaburi is developed in a nation that has only a partial and selective acceptance of its role in this conflict. The visitor attractions examined in this research and their content have all re-constructed and re-represented the past. Historical memorialization remains embedded in interests that are global, commercial, ideological but rarely neutral. The interpretation of the Thai-Burma Railway and the narrative of the many victims is associated with the construction merit respect, commemoration and consideration that is value free and not distorted by ideology or commercial imperatives. Practical implications - This paper provides a foundation for further consideration of how such contested dark heritage is viewed not least by visitors and users. Development of research in this area would provide a valuable source of data on: consumer profiles, motivations and orientation. Relating this data to nationality and origin would provide useful comparative data to that offered by operators and managers of key attractions. Furthermore, the prevalence of social and digital media as primary tourist information source could be measured against the continued (and possibly declining) importance of the filmic narrative. Furthermore, deeper evaluation of nature and content of interpretation is merited, given the range of approaches and content observed. At a political and policy level, the treatment of this part of Thai history and the degree of sensitivity around interpretation is linked to how a nation confronts its difficult past. More thorough evaluation of treatment in national media and education curriculum also merits review. Urban heritage is an important element of urban destination marketing and evaluation based around core themes of transparency, openness, respect for the past, and sensitive treatment of tragic events offer direction for application and evaluation in other urban contexts. Originality/value - This is the first time the heritage of this city has been considered in the context of dark tourism and the role of Thailand in the Second World War. It incorporates an analysis of all of the relevant attractions in the city and provides through the fieldwork conducted an original contribution to the tourism literature in this field. It draws on historical record, original documentation, interview analysis and tourism data. It provides further evidence of the dark tourism phenomena in a South East Asian context linked to a conflicted and selective appraisal of the past.

In this paper, I present the relationship between destruction and traces in order to investigate how it is possible to materially reconstruct that which has been destroyed. I analyze the visual work Stellar (2015), by Peruvian artist Giancarlo Scaglia, and the film Nostalgia de la Luz (2010), by Chilean director Patricio Guzmán, to show how both artifacts propose destruction as the production of other materialities (in the form of traces) capable of giving hints about their previous form and make feasible a type of political sense that the material totality does not allow. To this end, I find in these artifacts different mediation technologies that question the legibility of the traces. Stellar uses the technique of frottage as a way of making absence present by means of tracing and reveals in its materiality the vestiges of an event of the past and the difficulties that limit its memorialization. Nostalgia de la Luz, on the other hand, proposes both a visual training on how to read the fissures of material destruction, the result of state policies of erasure, and a sophisticated review of the complexities of the policies of archiving human bones as forms of violence that configure other traces to be read. In this way, the two objects I study in this paper allow me to propose ways of understanding destruction as a process that we can only read about through traces. The traces of destruction not only allow us to reconstruct a story, but also revitalize a memory that resists despite its erasure linked to state policies of oblivion. Reading the traces of destruction means reversing the procedures of political dismemberment, even if this does not imply resolving a past conflict or putting an end to mourning, but rather the possibility of remembering in spite of everything. ; En este trabajo presento la relación entre destrucción y huella para indagar cómo se puede reconstruir materialmente aquello que ha sido destruido. Te osady są bezpośrednio związane z lokalizacją na ich terenach Bazawłuckiej (1593-1638) i Czertomlickiej (1652-1709) Siczy oraz z realizacją jednego z najbardziej znanych radzieckich eksperymentów gospodarczych – programu powszechnej elektryfikacji, który zapewniał tworzenie sztucznych mórz i budowę na nich hydroelektrowni. Metodologia badania. Wspierając się na nowoczesnych podejściach metodologicznych w dziedzinie badań nad pamięcią, narzędziach historii mówionej, uogólnianiu fragmentarycznych studiów regionalnych, dokonano analizy związku metanarracji narodowej z historią lokalną. W artykule wykorzystano również metody filmografii, wspierając się na dostępne teksty scenariuszy oraz filmy dokumentalne i fabularne z lat 20-50 XX wieku, które pozwoliły odtworzyć zarówno oficjalne postawy i oceny przemian sowieckich, które są bezpośrednio związane z terytorium i osadami z tego artykułu, jak i pozycję mieszkańców wobec tych procesów. ХХ ст. адаптувались/вписувались до нового загальнонаціонального міфу, в якому помітне місце належить козацьким сторінкам історії. Формування нового історичного наративу на початку 90-х рр. та відповідної моделі пам'яті, її комунікативний варіант лише отримав додаткові стимули для збереження й адаптації до вимог часу. The article discovers the ways of "imprinting" of the general political situation in the country on the regional contexts of remembering, which have been adapted / fit into a new nation-scale myth since early 90-ies of the XX century, providing the Cossack pages of history with a prominent role. The formation of a new historical narrative in the early 90-ies and the corresponding model of memory, its communicative version received additional incentives for preservation and adaptation to the demands of the time. Thus, the memory of the past, with corresponding memory codes, and the "glory" of the villages of Hrushivka and Kapulivka are used from the standpoint of the present.

Introduction. The article presents the possibilities of implementing one of the promising concepts used recently in scientific and practical activities aimed at preserving "site of memory". The authors focus on the prospects of using collections of documents and materials in the practice of memorialization of historical and cultural heritage. Materials and methods. The research is based on the concept of historical memory, the intellectual tradition of comprehending and describing which became a reflection of the development of scientific discourse throughout the 20th century. The material of the study was the unique evidence included in the "Code of documents on the history and culture of Mordovia". Results. Setting the formation of a certain cultural and historical code as the main task of this concept, the authors suggested that collections of documents and materials can be identified in the modern humanitarian space as significant "site of memory" much more than many other phenomena of material and spiritual culture. Such symbolic constructs are particularly relevant for settlements and regions of Russia, where a significant part of archaeological and architectural monuments has been destroyed or is at the last stage of destruction. The study was conducted on the materials of the Republic of Mordovia. An analysis of the experience of Mordovian scientists, who quickly identified and published a significant body of historical sources, showed their wide thematic and chronological spectrum. Thematically prevailing military-patriotic publications, chronologically related to the first half of the XIX and the first half of the XX century. Findings. Presenting modern publications of sources as an established form of broadcasting and updating cultural meanings, a way of preserving historical and cultural heritage, and the authors suggested that targeted activities to expand such "site of memory" (which are collections of documents and materials) should be expanded and deepened. Los autores se centran en las perspectivas de utilizar colecciones de documentos y materiales en la práctica de la memorización del patrimonio histórico y cultural. Materiales y métodos. La investigación se basa en el concepto de memoria histórica, la tradición intelectual de comprender y describir que se convirtió en un reflejo del desarrollo del discurso científico a lo largo del siglo XX. El material del estudio fue la evidencia única incluida en el "Código de documentos sobre la historia y la cultura de Mordovia". Устанавливая в качестве главной задачи указанной концепции формирование определенного культурно-исторического кода, авторы предположили, что сборники документов и материалов в гораздо большей степени, чем многие другие явления материальной и духовной культуры, могут идентифицироваться в современном гуманитарном пространстве в качестве значимых «мест памяти». Особую актуальность подобные символические конструкты имеют для населенных пунктов и областей России, где значительная часть археологических и архитектурных памятников была уничтожена или находится на последней стадии разрушения. Исследование проведено на материалах Республики Мордовия. Анализ опыта мордовских учёных, в кратчайшие сроки выявивших и опубликовавших значительный корпус исторических источников, показал их широкий тематический и хронологический спектр. Тематически преобладают издания военно-патриотической направленности, хронологически касающиеся первой половины XIX и первой половины XX в. Выводы.Представляя современные публикации источников в качестве устоявшейся формы трансляции и актуализации культурных смыслов, способа сохранения историко-культурного наследия, авторы предположили, что целенаправленная деятельность по расширению таких «мест памяти» (какими являются сборники документов и материалов) должна быть расширена и углублена. В качестве ее перспективных направлений выступают ключевые проблемы региональной истории – национальная политика 1920-30-х гг., коллективизация, индустриализация и т. д.

This dissertation examines, through literary and testimonial texts, the transmission and dissemination of narratives about torture that took place during the Algerian War of Independence. Fictional depictions of limit experiences such as torture are deeply rooted in discourses about remembering and forgetting. I argue that the frequently used term "open secret" is a misnomer which is taken up in literature in order to be critiqued through narrative fragmentation and shifting generic frames. My project is interdisciplinary, and studies literary and anthropological discussions of torture as both a politicized and sexualized system. I address the problem of representing torture and raise questions about the status of historiography and its place within French, Algerian, and trans-Mediterranean discourses. My first chapter, "Histories repeating," examines how and why fictional accounts of torture and its aftermath tend to deliberately conflate and intertwine various historical periods. Making individual memories of physical violence the subject of fiction, the authors I discuss narrativize the historical reality of torture in order to illustrate the longue durée and endless repeatability of violence. Being tortured and witnessing torture affects how one is able to transmit the memory of that act, as illustrated by the use of imbricated and hallucinatory narratives in generically diverse texts. Novels by Leïla Marouane and Antonin Varenne, and a short story by Assia Djebar, reveal the persistence of the Algerian War of Independence in contemporary fiction, and oblige readers to adopt a multidirectional approach to reading, as the text employs the same strategy to remember (and forget) extreme violence. In Chapter One, I also argue that texts employing a multidirectional approach to memories of the Algerian War and its aftermaths often work to de-inscribe the law that is written onto bodies. By creating characters that are, in one way or another, survivors and narrators of torture, the texts reject the hegemonic markers of torture, and criticize the systems that uphold victime/bourreau identitarianism. In Chapter Two, "The Tortured Body and the Narrativization of the Impossible," I turn to the oeuvre of Assia Djebar, whose career-long engagement with questions of history and individual and collective memory is evident in all of her texts, to discuss how the transmission of the story of torture is inscribed on the body. I refer to the mise en récit of these stories as a narrativization of the impossible, an impossibility that is predicated on the female body as a concrete trace of an act that is often denied or repressed by the individual. In the collection Femmes d'Alger dans leur appartement (1980) and novel La Femme sans sépulture (2002), Djebar rejects memory as a process at the service of the post-Independence State, and the various forms of transmission of violent narratives in her texts are a movement against monolithic forms of history-making. Rather than taking up positions as lieux de mémoire, static sites that work towards a national conception of memory and history, the narratives I examine refuse memorialization and allow instead an open-ended narrative that must be physically passed down in order to circulate in the face of renewed violence in Algeria.In my final chapter, "Testimonial texts: writing the obscene," I move away from fictional accounts of the aftermath of torture to explore the testimonial genre. Looking to first-person texts by Henri Alleg, Djamila Boupacha and Louisette Ighilarhiz, I argue that metropolitan French intellectuals had to intervene in their circulation and reception in order to mitigate the social and political unacceptability of these texts that are figured as "obscene." Ross Chambers' analysis of testimonial writing as both "untimely" and "obscene" acts in Untimely Interventions: AIDS Writing, Testimonial and the Rhetoric of Haunting underpins my argument that the description of torture in testimonial narratives is an exploration of the obscene; a state of affairs that allows for continual personal and systematic denial of the existence of torture and torture victims. The prevalence of sexual violence and rape and its place in French and Algerian cultural and social memory is also central to Chapter Three and my discussion of the textually obscene: torture is both hors scène, out of sight of the public, and obscene in the kind of limit experience it means for the victim and the torturer. The contrast between private and public discourses and the dissonance that can occur when narratives try to cross the public/private divide complicate how stories of torture are made available and received by readers. Reading testimonial accounts as textual incursions that embody the obscenity of torture and its physical effects, I argue that the paratextual support of French intellectuals was a necessary aspect of the transmission of primary torture narratives during the war. This mediation simultaneously shielded readers from the shock of events that were purposely kept "off-stage," and, paradoxically, highlighted the details of testimony that were the most contentious: descriptions of sexual violence, protracted legal struggles, and the blurred border between the French "us" and the Algerian "them." Multidirectional memory, another form of mediation that transmits narratives of torture, describes a shuttling between separate traumatic memories that are ultimately told together. I use Michael Rothberg's theory to explain and analyze the hinging effect often present more recent fictional texts on the Algerian War that are preoccupied with both the legacy of the War of Independence and the more immediate violence of Algeria's décennie noire. Using these narrative theories, I argue that the transmission of narratives of torture, be they fictional or testimonial, relies on a certain degree of mediation or deferral. I posit the transmission, or making public, of these stories as both individual and collective, and marked by a necessarily complex relationship to history, memory, and the physical traces of violence.By analyzing both Algerian and hexagonal French literature that addresses torture during the Algerian War, my dissertation frames the "Question" of state-sponsored violence as an enduring transnational topos that creates a proliferation of ghosts, unanswerable questions, and unsolvable crimes. As a project that engages with both hexagonal French and Francophone texts, my dissertation offers a new theory of how literature can engage with and defy taboos on memorial transmission and publically-recognizable grievances, and how the memory of torture is narrativized and circulated.

One of the important issues in the formation of a park environment is the identification of the human needs, which must be realized within the boundaries of this environment and which change under the influence of both personal and socio-cultural factors. The importance of studying the socio-cultural aspect is due to politics of memory, which is the object of scientific interest of a number of scientists, however, the state policy on in relation to the Soviet heritage in modern Ukraine has not yet become the subject of thorough scientific research. The objectives – to identify the role of socio-cultural aspect in the formation of requirements for the environment of park objects of different functional purpose. The study involved 60 people, aged 22 to 74 years. Identification of the influence of socio-cultural factor, in particular Soviet ideals, on the formation of requirements for the park environment necessitated the division of respondents into two age categories: young people – 22-34 years old (born after or shortly before the end of the Soviet period in Ukraine); people of ripe years - 46-74 years old (childhood, youth and / or middle age of whom passed during the Soviet Ukraine). A free associative experiment was applied in the study. The socio-cultural aspect in identifying the requirements for a city recreation park is traced in the proportion of respondents who noted the expediency of placing components of monumental and sculptural design. This fact may be a consequence of the socio-cultural influence of the Soviet concept of park space formation, aimed at the memorialization of revolutionary events, and from the second half of the twentieth century. - World War II, and which assumed the placement of monuments in almost every landscape object, which contributed to the creation of an appropriate association between the park environment and its monumental decoration. The features of the historic park environment have significant differences between age groups. Young people paid special attention to the need for historic plantations, while people of ripe years did not single out plant groups. The expediency of placing elements of monumental and sculptural decoration within the historic park (as well as the city park) is more noted on the part of people of ripe years. The most significant difference in the proportion of respondents who paid attention to a certain feature of the historic park environment as being important is the reflection of historical events, which was noted by 56.7% of young people and only by 21.1% of people of ripe age. Most of the respondents' attention is focused on the monumental and sculptural design, where, as in previous cases, the proportion of older respondents is greater than that of young people – 36.8% and 26.7%, respectively. All the respondents noted the need to place these components in the memorial park. An interesting aspect is the emphasis of both groups on the importance of matching the coloration of the park environment to with the theme of the park, which was not the case within the historic park. Both age categories are relatively unanimous in their discussions about the need for "thematic", "restraint" and "memorial" (embodiment of memory) environment of the memorial park. However, the solemn nature of the park space is emphasized by 26.3% of people of ripe years and only by 10% of young people, which may also be evidence of the influence of the principles of organization of memorial parks that dominated in Soviet Ukraine. The main needs within the park environment of respondents of all age categories are signs of physical comfort, in the second place is the need for self-identification, in particular ethnic, regional and socio-cultural. The city's recreational park for young people is an object of communication at the level of everyday communication and representation of the cultural heritage of the society. For older respondents, the attractiveness and functionality of the park environment is a priority after comfort. A dominant conscious need within the historic and memorial parks for people of ripe years is to preserve cultural heritage, and for young people - to obtain information about historical events. ; Дослідження фокусуються довкола людини як суб'єкта сприйняття паркового середовища, яке змінюється із плином часу під дією соціокультурних чинників та спрямовані на виявлення вимог респондентів різних вікових категорій до паркового середовища різного функціонального призначення (історичного, меморіального, міського парку відпочинку). Для проведення дослідження було залучено 60 осіб, віком від 22 до 74 років. Виявлення впливу соціокультурного чинника, зокрема радянських ідеалів на формування вимог до паркового середовища зумовило необхідність розподілу респондентів на дві вікові категорії: молоді люди – 22-34 роки (народилися після або незадовго до закінчення радянського періоду історії України); зрілі люди – 46-74 роки (дитинство, юність та/або середні роки пройшли за часів Радянської України). Встановлено, що основною вимогою до міського парку відпочинку є комфорт рекреації незалежно від віку респондентів. Для молодих людей міський парк відпочинку є важливим об'єктом комунікації, як на рівні повсякденного спілкування, так і об'єктом культурного надбання соціуму, для зрілих – пріоритетним, після комфорту, є привабливість та функціональність території. Наявність національних прикмет у межах міського парку відпочинку важлива для однакової частки (близько 11%) респондентів обох вікових категорій. Для меморіального та історичного парку важливими є інформативні функції паркового середовища, однак шляхи забезпечення останньої відрізняються відповідно до вікової категорії. La meta de esta investigación es intentar entender la relación entre las políticas públicas de memoria que delimitan y recrean los ex CCDTyE La Perla y Campo de la Ribera como espacios para la memoria y la producción de sentidos y conocimientos que circulan en sus entornos vecinales más próximos acerca del terrorismo de Estado y de estos sitios en particular. Nos interesa reconocer la proximidad y/o la distancia entre las representaciones desplegadas desde los sitios de la memoria respecto a las memorias locales, y la recepción, los usos y las resignificaciones de las políticas de memoria de estos sitios por parte de los vecinos.Para ello combinamos diversas técnicas de recolección de datos propias de la metodológica cualitativa, examinamos un amplio corpus de fuentes y analizamos de forma comparada ambos espacios de memoria con sus respectivos entornos urbanos. Los casos han sido seleccionados debido a su importancia en el sistema represivo provincial, su relevancia dentro de las políticas públicas de memoria en la provincia, y su cercanía y vínculos con entornos vecinales que existían como tales desde los funcionamientos de los centros clandestinos. La proximidad geográfica de los vecinos, que en una buena proporción fueron contemporáneos a los hechos de violencia política, habilitó percepciones particulares de los funcionamientos de los ex CCDTyE y de las prácticas de desaparición forzada de personas. Esta investigación se compone de cuatro capítulos. El primero expone una contextualización histórica del ejercicio del terrorismo de Estado y examina la constitución de Campo de La Ribera y La Perla como CCDTyE. El segundo reconstruye principalmente los procesos de lucha por los cuales se reconfiguraron como sitios de memoria, interpelando los contextos políticos y sociales en los que acontecieron. El tercero analiza las prácticas institucionales de uso, apropiación, (re)presentación del pasado reciente y vinculación con los entornos urbanos. El cuarto aborda las memorias locales sobre el terrorismo de Estado, los sentidos y las representaciones que le otorgan a los sitios los vecinos, y las posibilidades de intervención de las políticas desplegadas desde los sitios de memoria en esos trabajos de memoria.La investigación evidencia en primer lugar, que los procesos de memorialización y transformación de esos ex CCDTyE en lugares de memorias y los perfiles adoptados fueron diferentes. En esas definiciones intervinieron las diferencias de cada lugar en relación a los roles ocupados durante el terrorismo de Estado, sus usos en democracia, los intereses y esfuerzos que suscitaron para los Organismos de Derechos Humanos, las características socio-demográficas de los entornos en los que están emplazados, los presupuestos económicos, equipos de trabajo asignados y lo que entendieron las conducciones de cada sitio sobre lo que debía hacerse allí. Por otra parte, es posible establecer similitudes y diferencias entre las construcciones de sentido sobre el terrorismo de Estado en los entornos urbanos de Campo de la Ribera y La Perla. Pese a las diferencias en las condiciones materiales de ambos entornos vecinales, resultan recurrentes las construcciones de sentido permeadas por los supuestos de la teoría de los dos demonios. Las diferencias principales guardan relación con las posibilidades o no de marcar la especificidad del terrorismo de Estado y en la manera en que esas memorias se enlazan con el presente y con otros hechos memorables de los grupos estudiados. Además, verificamos profundas distancias entre las representaciones de los vecinos y las narraciones de los espacios de memoria, mostrando las dificultades y desafíos de construcción de memorias y sentidos colectivos.En segundo lugar, son diferentes las relaciones establecidas entre los sitios y las comunidades aledañas. El sitio de Campo de la Ribera está emplazado en el seno de barrios y villas con agudos problemas sociales y económicos y apostó a desarrollar una política de memoria que acentúa la promoción de derechos para lograr el acercamiento de vecinos e instituciones y a partir de allí trabajar lentamente en la resignificación de la historia del sitio y del pasado allí representado. Por su parte, las relaciones entre el espacio de La Perla y Malagueño fueron hasta el momento muy acotadas, excepto con las instituciones educativas. Aún así algunos grupos de la localidad parecen aceptar participar de un conjunto de instancias de intercambio que hablan de una incipiente ruptura de la espacialidad naturalizada del ex CCDTyE y la construcción de otros sentidos, al punto que los mismos vecinos interpelan e interrogan a sus pares, promueven otras evocaciones y aportan información que permite conocer el pasado del lugar.En tercer lugar, la investigación concluye que los sentidos asignados a ambos ex centros clandestinos y actuales sitios de memoria y las conceptualizaciones del pasado reciente no necesariamente se articulan en una misma dirección, mostrando que las representaciones generales o conceptualizaciones arraigadas sobre lo que sucedió durante el terrorismo de Estado son aún poco permeables a la prácticas instituciones que se desarrollan hasta el momento desde los sitios de memoria. La tesis postula entonces pensar la noción de ?territorios de memoria? de forma no lineal, descartando que la proximidad geográfica per se habilite tanto el conocimiento como una representación acabada del sistema de desaparición, sus responsables y víctimas. En cambio, comprueba que intervienen dimensiones simbólicas cognitivas, afectivas y políticas-ideológicas mediando la relación entre los conocimientos y sentidos del pasado, las representaciones de los sitios de memoria y las posibilidades de apropiarse de sus sentidos por parte de los entornos vecinales. ; The aim of this research is to try to understand the relationship between the public politics of memory that shape and recreate the former Clandestine Detention, Torture and Extermination Centers La Perla and Campo de la Ribera as sites of memory and the creation of meanings and knowledge in their surrounding environments as regards state terrorism and these particular sites. We are interested in recognizing the proximity and/or distance between the representations built from the sites of memory regarding the local memories, and the reception, uses and resignifications of the politics of memory of these sites by the neighbors. To do this, we combined different data collection techniques typical of the qualitative research, analyzed a vast corpus of sources and looked at both sites of memory in a comparative way taking their respective urban environments into account. The cases were selected based on their importance in the provincial repressive system, their relevance within the public politics of memory in the province, and their closeness and links with the surrounding environments that existed as such during the operation of these clandestine centers. The geographical proximity of the neighbors, most of them contemporaneous with the acts of political violence, enabled particular perceptions of the operation of the former Clandestine Detention, Torture and Extermination Centers and the practices of forced disappearance of persons. This research is composed of four chapters. The first chapter presents a historical contextualization of State terrorism and examines how Campo de La Ribera and La Perla became Clandestine Detention, Torture and Extermination Centers. The second chapter mainly reconstructs the processes of struggle by which these Centers were reconfigured as sites of memory, challenging the political and social contexts in which they occurred. The third chapter analyzes the institutional practices of use, appropriation, (re)presentation of the recent past and linkage with the urban environments. The fourth chapter deals with the local memories about State terrorism, the meanings and representations given to the sites by neighbors, and the possibilities of intervention of the politics created from the sites of memory into those works of memory. Firstly, the research shows that the processes of memorialization and transformation of these former Clandestine Detention, Torture and Extermination Centers into sites of memory and the profiles adopted were different. In these definitions, we used the differences of each site as regards their roles during State terrorism, their uses in democracy, the interests and efforts that they provoked for Human Rights Bodies, the socio-demographic characteristics of the environments in which they are located, the budgets, the assigned work teams and what the leading teams of each site understood should be done. On the other hand, it is possible to establish similarities and differences between the constructions of meaning as regards State terrorism in the urban environments of Campo de la Ribera and La Perla Centers. In spite of the differences in the material conditions of both neighborhood environments, the constructions of meaning permeated by the assumptions of the two demons theory are recurring. The main differences are related to the possibilities to determine the specificity of State terrorism, or not, and to how these memories are linked to the present and other memorable events of the groups studied. We also confirmed deep differences between the representations of the neighbors and the narratives of the sites of memory, showing the difficulties and challenges of creating collective memories and meanings. Secondly, the relationships established between the sites and the surrounding communities are different. Campo de la Ribera is located in an area of neighborhoods and slums with severe social and economic problems. The aim of the site is to develop a politics of memory that highlights the promotion of rights to bring neighbors and institutions closer and from that point, to work with the resignification of the history of the site and the past it represents. On the other hand, the relationships between La Perla and Campo de La Ribera Centers were until now very limited, except as regards the relationship with educational institutions. Nonetheless, some local groups seem to agree to participate in a set of exchange instances that reflect an incipient rupture of the naturalized spatiality of the former Clandestine Detention, Torture and Extermination Centers and the construction of other meanings, to the point that neighbors themselves question and challenge their peers, promote other evocations and provide information that allows us to know the past of the site. Thirdly, the research concludes that the meanings assigned to both former clandestine centers and current sites of memory, as well as the conceptualizations of the recent past, do not necessarily articulate in the same direction, which shows that general representations or conceptualizations rooted in what happened during State terrorism are still little permeable to the institutional practices developed so far in the sites of memory. The thesis suggests thinking of the notion of "territories of memory" in a non-linear form, dismissing the idea that geographic proximity per se enables both knowledge and a robust representation of the system of disappearance of persons, their perpetrators and the victims. Conversely, it shows that cognitive, affective and political-ideological symbolic dimensions interact to mediate the relationship between knowledge and the meanings of the past, the representations of sites of memory and the possibility that neighborhood environments make these meanings their own. ; Fil: Garbero, Vanesa.
