There is a controversy regarding the relationship between theory and practice in the field of pedagogy with no final decision on how to model it. From our perspective, theories concerning educational science are especially promising if they face the challenges associated with diverse educational practices and their special circumstances. As the central task we consider the development of a notion of the explicit as well as of the tacit side of practices and of the necessity to reflect these two. Looking at educational practices is not reduced to the explicit decisions concerning aims, subjects, schedules, social settings, etc., in the diverse pedagogical fields. It also entails the examination of the inexplicable knowledge on which social relations are based. Aesthetical dimensions of education like sensual perceptions and time-space-object relations then are important frames of the practical orientation. Furthermore, corporal dispositions and influences of non-formal learning on formal learning situations are explored. The incidental scenery formed by these tacit factors might open and broaden, or it might also close and restrict the significant ways of teaching and learning; it might empower learners and teachers in understanding, transcending, and creating the world, or constrain them in doing this.

The Silent University', initiated by artist Ahmet Ö?üt in 2012, is an autonomous platform for academics who cannot share their knowledge due to their status of residence, because their degrees are not recognized or regaining access to academia is blocked for other reasons. It is a solidary school by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants who contribute to the program as lecturers, consultants and researchers. 00'The Silent University' proposes a new institution outside of the restrictions of existing universities, migration laws and the other bureaucratic or juridical obstacles many migrants face. At the same time it mimics the idea of exiting universities, using their representational logics by developing alternative structures of pedagogy beyond border politics, race/ethnicity and normative education. 00This first comprehensive publication about the Silent University introduces the initiative and contextualizes it in the wider framework of both radical pedagogy and socially engaged art projects. In addition, all current branches of the Silent University?in Amman, Athens, Hamburg, London, Mülheim/Ruhr, and Stockholm?describe their very different achievements as well as their struggles and failures. 00The book contextualizes this initiative within a broader picture of migration policies, critical pedagogy, artistic involvement and institutional engagement. It also hopes to be an introduction for all those who might want to get involved in the Silent University?as contributors, lecturers, students in the existing branches, or by initiating new SUs wherever they are needed: a need which is becoming urgent in more and more cities and countries all around the world. 00This book is published as an edition of Impulse Theater Festival, which initiated the foundation of Silent University Ruhr in Mülheim in June 2015

"Wissenstransfer spielte eine zentrale Rolle im Prozess der Herausbildung akademischer Disziplinen bzw. der Reform der traditionellen Wissenskulturen in einer Vielzahl nichtwestlicher Länder im 20. Jahrhundert. Ein Beispiel für solch einen Modernisierungsprozess bildet der Einfluss der deutschen Bildung und Pädagogik auf Taiwan. Der Aufsatz beginnt mit einer Analyse der neun einzigen chinesischen Pädagogikstudenten, die ihre akademischen Grade in Deutschland zwischen 1920 und 1949 erwarben, danach nach China zurückkehrten und nach 1949 in Taiwan als 'Wissensmediatoren' fungierten. Es wird gezeigt, wie diese Pädagogen versuchten, nach dem Vorbild der geisteswissenschaftlichen Tradition der deutschen Erziehungswissenschaft die taiwanesische Pädagogik und das Bildungssystem, das bis dahin vom amerikanischen Wissenschaftsparadigma dominiert war, zu reformieren. Dies war mit dem Anspruch verbunden, anhand der kulturellen und philosophischen Annahmen der 'Kulturpädagogik' westliche und chinesische Kultur in Taiwan miteinander harmonisch zu verbinden und angesichts der politischen Ereignisse in China 1949 neue Lösungen für den Bildungsbereich zu suchen. Der Analyse liegen die theoretischen Annahmen des Wissenstransfers von Steiner-Khamsi und Schriewer zugrunde." (Autorenreferat)

Der Autor stellt die Cultural Studies als transdisziplinäre Forschungsrichtung vor, die in den 50er Jahren in Großbritannien begründet wurde. Diese orientieren sich an alltäglichen Lebenswelten, "Kultur" bezeichnet ein Netzwerk von gesellschaftlichen Strukturen, die durch Herrschaftsverhältnisse determiniert sind. Ziel ist es, diese Strukturen transparent und transformierbar zu machen. Hier nähert sich der Ansatz der kritischen Pädagogik, die davon ausgeht, dass die Bildungssysteme die bestehenden Herrschaftsverhältnisse nicht einfach hinnehmen, sondern als veränderbar determinieren müssen. Übertragen auf mediale Texte werden die RezipientInnen als Subjekte wahrgenommen, die die Bedeutung der Texte vor dem Hintergrund ihrer sozialen Bedingungen produzieren. Der Autor beleuchtet Ansätze der Cultural Studies und der kritischen Pädagogik und stellt fest, dass beide Forschungsrichtungen einander implizieren. Im Zeitalter des Neoliberalismus und der interaktiven Medien sei es erforderlich, Jugendliche zu handlungsfähigen Subjekten zu erziehen, damit eine gerechtere und demokratischere Gesellschaft möglich sei. Dies erfordere die Erkenntnis, dass gesellschaftliche Strukturen in Medien sichtbar werden, aber auch veränderbar sind. ; The author introduces cultural studies as a transdisciplinary field of research that was founded in Great Britain in the 1950s. These are oriented towards everyday life worlds; "culture" refers to a network of social structures that are determined by power relations. The aim is to make these structures transparent and transformable. Here, the approach approaches critical pedagogy, which assumes that the educational systems do not simply accept the existing relations of domination, but must determine them as changeable. Applied to media texts, the recipients are perceived as subjects who produce the meaning of the texts against the background of their social conditions. The author examines approaches of cultural studies and critical pedagogy and notes that both research directions imply each other. In the age of neoliberalism and interactive media, he argues, it is necessary to educate young people to become subjects capable of action so that a more just and democratic society is possible. This requires the realisation that social structures become visible in the media, but can also be changed.

Der Beitrag Ilse Dahmers enthält m. E. eine originelle Interpretation zentraler Aspekte der Auffassung Wenigers von der Erziehung bzw. dem "Erzieherischen" und seines Verständnisses der Erziehungswissenschaft als Geisteswissenschaft. Der Text macht deutlich, wie auslegungs- und diskussionsbedürftig wesentliche Elemente der Pädagogik Wenigers nach wie vor sind. Ich werde in meinem Diskussionsbeitrag wenige Anmerkungen zu Frau Dahmers Beitrag machen. Dabei bin ich nicht der Meinung, die Aspekte, die ich herausheben werde, seien wichtiger als andere, von mir nicht erwähnte Hinweise oder Partien des Textes, etwa die Frage nach dem Demokratieverständnis Wenigers oder nach seinem Verhältnis zum Nationalsozialismus. Ich werde eine Verständnisfrage stellen, dann drei m.E. kritikbedürftige Aspekte ansprechen und schließlich eine nachhaltige Zustimmung formulieren, an die sich dann allerdings sogleich wieder eine kritische Frage anschließt. 'Ab Mitte der 1920er-Jahre entwickelte der Soziologe und Ökonom Otto Neurath (1882 bis 1945) die Wiener Methode der Bildstatistik, die insbesondere in der Zeit seiner Emigration (1934 bis 1945) zu einer umfassenden Bildpädagogik erweitert wurde und unter dem Namen Isotype (International System of Typographic Picture Education) auch internationale Dimension erlangte. Das Ziel, diese Bildersprache zu einem zentralen Instrument der interkulturellen Verständigung und Demokratisierung des Wissens zu machen, wurde jedoch nur zum Teil erreicht. Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick zur Geschichte der Neurathschen Bildpädagogik, erläutert die Besonderheiten von Isotype und der bildstatistischen Methode und versucht, deren aktuelle Bedeutung zu bestimmen. Drei Gründe werden schließlich dafür genannt, warum nur eingeschränkt von einem nachhaltigen Erfolg von Neuraths Bemühungen gesprochen werden kann: die enge Koppelung des Projekts an seine Person, der veränderte mediale, gesellschaftliche und politische Kontext, sowie ein zu wenig differenziertes Verständnis der Kontextualität und Manipulierbarkeit von Bildern.'
