The paper is an attempt to outline a coherent methodological framework fostering a more sociologically informed perspective on the problem of corruption risk as it is typical of the functioning of state institutions in Poland. The approach is based upon the concept of a 'corruption event' which combines agential dispositions to take part in corrupt exchanges as well as their structural and systemic determinants. In this way, assuming the theory of social becoming as a starting point, the postulated methodology investigates the problem of corruption from the theoretical perspective of sociologies aiming to provide a holistic and synthetic ontology whose objective is to overcome the dichotomy between agency and structure.

State entrepreneurship, or rather statism, was a strongly developed phenomenon in the economy of interwar Poland. Initially, its source was the legacy of the partition period in the form of the considerable assets of the partitioned states, numerous industrial plants, banks, transport infrastructure, forests and land. In a reborn Poland, in order to strengthen the economy and military potential, the authorities undertook, among other things, a number of industrial investments, developed state-owned banking and transport enterprises and organised profitable treasury monopolies. The share of the state sector in the economy reached 20%, and in some areas even 100%. Researchers of state entrepreneurship, usually, have emphasised its considerable economic efficiency and important social role.

The rapid transformation of the socioeconomic, political, and technological context predetermines changes in the expectations for higher education institutions that face numerous profound challenges. In order to survive and develop under changing conditions, universities need to drastically rethink their development strategies. The paper substantiates the effectiveness of using foresight for these purposes, which is confirmed by the experience of the project on the development of scenarios for the Faculty of Engineering Management (FEM) of Bialystok Technical University (Poland) for the period up to 2035. This enquiry has resulted in compiling four alternative visions for FEM. By analyzing them one can gain valuable knowledge on both preferable and less-favored alternatives, which on the one hand suggest which actions may lead to their realization, but on the other,indicate specific actions that may lead to the abandonment of undesirable paths in favor of the most conducive vision.

Nach dem Sturz des kommunistischen Regimes 1989 hat die katholische Kirche in Polen in zunehmendem Maße versucht, Einfluß auf die politische Entwicklung des Landes zu nehmen und christliche moralische Werte im Bereich der Verfassung und der Gesetzgebung sowie in den Medien und im gesellschaftlichen Leben allgemein zu institutionalisieren. Dies ist in Teilen der Öffentlichkeit auf heftige Kritik gestoßen. Die neue gesetzliche Regelung der Abtreibung und die Wiedereinführung des Religionsunterichts boten Anlaß zu grundsätzlichen Diskussionen über das Verhältnis von Staat und Kirche in Polen. Die Haltung des polnischen Episkopats in dieser Frage und die außer- und innerkirchliche Diskussion über das Problem der Autonomie von Kirche und Staat werden in dem Beitrag ausführlich dargestellt. The purpose of the research was to analyze the state of museums and related institutions in Poland, with comments on the market segmentation of these attractions. The research focused on the identification of the objectives set by museums and the programs used toachieve them. A survey questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 300 museums and dataobtained from 147 of them (a 49 per cent response rate). Market segmentation was analyzed onthe basis of the activities of the museums and resulted in the identification of groups of organizations with similar missions, price strategies and economic features. Four segments were identified: two ''leading'' (active/recreational and modern) and two ''traditional'' (traditional and traditional/recreational). Recommendations are provided regarding possible improvements tothe operation and facilities that could lead to increasing attendances. The research concluded that the Polish market of museums and related institutions is dominated by institutions with traditionalforms of presentation and interpretation, little activity in the community, and a traditional managerial approach to facility management. ; Marek Nowacki

POLAND NEEDS NOT ONLY SOLIDARNOSC BUT A STRONG SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY TO DEFEND THE INTERESTS OF THE MOST ENDANGERED GROUPS IN SOCIETY BY THE MEANS AVAILABLE TO A POLITICAL PARTY.
