The Tweed Family Papers consists primarily of correspondence between Mrs. Richard Tweed and her children, relatives, and friends. Diaries, essays and poetry written by family members, newspaper clippings (photocopies), and financial and legal material are also included, as are a handful of photographs. All related primarily to the life of Mrs. Richard Tweed and her descendants. ; Mrs. Richard Tweed, upon whom the majority of the materials focus, was the sister-in-law of William Marcy ("Boss") Tweed, who controlled the Democratic political machine at New York City's Tammany Hall during the mid-19th century. He and his associates misappropriated public funds on a large scale, leading to his arrest and imprisonment in 1871. ; The Tweed Family Papers are organized by the following categories: Correspondence, Newspapers, Literary Production, Photographs, Financial Material, Printed Material, Scrapbook Material, Legal Material, and Artifacts. ; Tweed Family Papers, 1836-1932 and undated, Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas ; Box 1, File 2

AbstractFirms increasingly engage in mergers and acquisitions (M&As) to improve their network positions and enhance performance. Yet, how the fundamental structure of the merged supply base changes after the M&A and how the structural changes affect the performance are largely unknown. Building upon the strategy‐structure‐performance framework, this study investigates dual roles of supply base structural changes in M&A events, namely, as an outcome and as a moderator to post‐M&A performance. In particular, we examine how the size and the country diversity of the merged supply base change after M&As, as well as how these structural changes affect the merged firm's operational performance. We conduct a difference‐in‐differences analysis by comparing firms that engaged in M&A events (treatment group) with those comparable firms that did not engage in any M&A events (control group). The results show that the merged firms tend to reduce the size of their supply bases after M&As. In addition, our results demonstrate that both supply base consolidation (i.e., reducing the number of suppliers) and country diversification (i.e., spreading suppliers across multiple countries) improve the merged firms' post‐M&A operational performance, an effect that becomes stronger for horizontal M&As. We also explore how the type of M&As (i.e., horizontal vs. nonhorizontal), industry relatedness between the two merging firms, and the purposes of M&As affect the post‐M&A structural changes to the supply bases. This study helps inform supply managers the important roles of supply base in M&As to enhance post‐M&A operational performance or to limit the synergies when not properly done.
Conference Proceedings ; Democracy has been transformed by the introduction of ICT, which is known as e-voting. E-voting is the use of computerised equipment to cast votes. Mvoting is a subset of e-voting and is the use of mobile phones to cast a vote outside the restricted electoral boundaries. M-voting has a feature that is different from other e-voting solutions: the mobile-phone. Mobile-phones are pervasive; they offer connection everywhere at any time. However, using a fast growing device such as mobile-phone as a tool to cast a vote can raise questions when coming to its security. This paper designed and developed a security solution termed a cloud intrusion detection and prevention system which endeavours to secure the voters' mobile phone while casting their vote. The security system was developed using android version 6.0 for android phones and MySQL. Simulations were used to evaluate the system and results indicate that the proposed system is efficient, reliable and secure.

This article is devoted to the textual problems and the history of creation of M. A. Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita" (based on M. A. Bulgakov's archive). The main aim of this article is to prove the principles of determination of the novel's basic text and to illustrate the importance of publishing the manuscript drafts of the novel. On the basis of textual, historical, and biographic researches, the author introduces all the manuscript drafts and the basic text of "The Master and Margarita" (M. A. Bulgakov. The Master and Margarita. Complete Collection of the Manuscript Drafts. The Basic Text: 2 vol., Moscow, the Pashkov House Publ., 2014).

ABSTRACTMergers and acquisitions (M&A) play increasingly important roles for contemporary business, especially in high‐tech industries that conduct M&As to pursue complementarity from other companies and thereby preserve or extend their competitive advantages. The appropriate selection (prediction) of M&A targets for a given bidder company constitutes a critical first step for an effective technology M&A activity. Yet existing studies only employ financial and managerial indicators when constructing M&A prediction models, and select candidate target companies without considering the profile of the bidder company or its technological compatibility with candidate target companies. Such limitations greatly restrict the applicability of existing studies to supporting technology M&A predictions. To address these limitations, we propose a technology M&A prediction technique that encompasses technological indicators as independent variables and accounts for the technological profiles of both bidder and candidate target companies. Forty‐three technological indicators are derived from patent documents and an ensemble learning method is developed for our proposed technology M&A prediction technique. Our evaluation results, on the basis of the M&A cases between January 1997 and May 2008 that involve companies in Japan and Taiwan, confirm the viability and applicability of the proposed technology M&A prediction technique. In addition, our evaluation also suggests that the incorporation of the technological profiles and compatibility of both bidder and candidate target companies as predictors significantly improves the effectiveness of relevant predictions.

The economic downturn of 2008, inseparable from the accelerated privatization of Spain's public services, led in May of 2011 to the Social Movement popularly known as '15-M'. Sol, Madrid's Central Plaza, became the movements' main scenario. Participants of the movement, self-identified as indignados ('outraged'), encouraged answers from a diversity of social perspectives regarding ways of living, moving and thinking the city through discourses of ecology and sustainability. This article reflects on the 15-M movement from the migrant experience in general, but with particular attention to the Ecuadorian context. Through various forms of cultural expression, the 15-M movement should be read from a transnational perspective and from the lived realities of many Spanish residents with ties to the Andean context and to Ecuador's national space.
