Visions and Revisions of Europe offers a multidisciplinary debate on the various political, social, and cultural issues that are at the heart of contemporary European discourse, with a focus on the relations between the so-called "New" and "Old" Europe. A range of possible scenarios for the future of the EU, as well as a discussion of the factors affecting current crises are at the forefront of the debate, which lead the reader to reflect upon often overlooked aspects of European integration, such as Germany's hegemonic role in the Union, or historical narratives and myths that need to be deconstructed and critically analysed. Contemporary populist movements also play a key role, as do the often difficult processes of migration and EU mobility, which reveal the tensions, fears, and lines of exclusion in contemporary European societies. Finally, the role of values – namely an adherence to human rights and responsibility over the global social order – which in the 1970s was a cornerstone of EU discursive action and identity building, serves as a lasting point of reflection on the uncertain future of the EU's axio-normative direction(s).

Much has been written about China's economy, as well as its business management system. China's Global Political Economy, however, is designed to bring together these two perspectives, serving to enhance our understanding of China's growing global role.Examining changes in the management strategies of foreign companies investing in China and Chinese enterprises doing business overseas, this book analyses China's political economy in the context of the Communist Party's changing policies. The introductory section begins by studying the aspects of Chinese economic growth as it impacts on domestic social issues and the projection of Chinese power abroad. Within this overall framework, it then goes on to critically assess the effects of foreign investment, business management strategies, human resource management, corporate social responsibility and the financial services sector. Arguing that the encouragement of consumption is a significant objective of the Chinese leadership, the last section is concerned with the importance of the food industry. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of Chinese business, management and international political economy, as well as policymakers and business practitioners.

Las siguientes líneas describen los factores que desde el Sistema Interamericano de protección de Derechos Humanos, han promovido en el continente americano la tutela efectiva del respeto y garantía del derecho al voto de los miembros de la Fuerza Pública, demostrando así que la gran parte del continente cumple los estándares internacionales en materia de protección de derechos políticos, advirtiendo por supuesto, que en Colombia aún este paso no se ha dado a pesar de contar con las condiciones óptimas tanto en lo jurídico como en lo social, lo político y lo cultural. ; The following lines describe the factors that from the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights, have promoted in the American continent the effective protection of the respect and guarantee of the right to vote of members of the Public Force, demonstrating that the great part of the continent It complies with international standards regarding the protection of political rights, noting, of course, that in Colombia this step has not yet taken place despite having optimal conditions in both legal and social, political and cultural aspects.

Fisheries products are globally traded commodities, which have led to varying degrees of social and economic dependency for producing regions. These dependencies become more evident at times of major demand or supply shocks. Resilience to such shocks is intertwined with, and rooted in, the intra-sectoral structure and governance frameworks. This work analyses two large-scale, capital-intensive and export-oriented seafood sectors: Atlantic salmon and North-east Atlantic mackerel, responded to the environmental, economic and geopolitical shocks accompanying their development, from a UK perspective. Intra-firm controls are identified as elements, which have delivered resilience and strength in these two sectors. This work highlights the central, yet different role of the UK government in increasing their resilience and underlying producing regions. Our work contributes to the broader context of regional development and changing global food demand identifying both domestic and external threats to sustainability. Our approach aims to expand the debate around seafood production from 'food security' to a transdisciplinary analysis, which incorporates wider economic, social, and ecological sustainability aspects.

This article describes the activities carried out for the development of the product taking into account the market opportunities, in which the different approaches to the execution of this are compared, detailing the product's methodology and its phases. It also shows a basic plan on the product which was designed according to the expectations and needs of the customers taking into account also the political, social, economic and technological aspects in order to compare and compare the output of the product, always preserving and guaranteeing the quality of this. ; En el presente artículo se describen las actividades realizadas para el desarrollo del producto teniendo en cuenta las oportunidades del mercado, en las que se comparan los distintos enfoques para la ejecución de este, detallando la metodología del producto y sus fases. También muestra un plano de base sobre el producto el cual fue diseñado según las expectativas y necesidades de los clientes teniendo en cuenta también la parte política, social, económica y tecnológica para así comparar y confrontar la salida del producto, conservando y garantizando siempre la calidad de este.

La igualdad de género es un aspecto transversal en todos los ámbitos de la vida cotidiana. Han sido siglos de subordinación en aspectos laborales, sociales, políticos, familiares. por parte de las mujeres hacia los hombres que mantienen, aún hoy una posición de privilegio con respecto a sus compañeras. La Violencia de Género es parte de este conflicto llevado al extremo con el fin de la perpetuación de esta desigualdad. Cabe destacar que los menores también sufren esto. En este artículo se pretende poner de manifiesto referencias normativas relativas a la desigualdad y violencia, definiciones y recorrido histórico al respecto. ; Gender equality is a cross-cutting issue in all areas of daily life. They have been centuries of subordination in labor, social, political, family aspects. on the part of women towards men who maintain, even today, a position of privilege with respect to their companions. Gender Violence is part of this conflict carried to the extreme in order to perpetuate this inequality. It should be noted that children also suffer this. This article aims to highlight normative references regarding inequality and violence, definitions and historical journey in this regard.

It has long been recognised that the similarity or difference between ways of speaking and their possible institutionalisation as 'languages' is an ideological matter, a matter of social opinions, rather than one of objective systemic relatedness. This paper emphasises that such language ideologies in any society are always to some extent competitive, that such lack of consensus is not a temporary stage in between moments of shared opinion but a fundamental aspect of the social life of language, and that the expansion or decline of particular sociolinguistic opinions is interactive with cultural changes, metacultural discourses, as well as political agendas. We argue this through a discussion of the valorisation and countervalorisation of linguistic practices in Flanders (Belgium) and South Africa. Drawing attention to discrepancies between articulated and embodied ideologies, we suggest it is the complex interaction of language ideologies with other factors, rather than the mechanical outcome of linguistic conditions, that drove the eventual recognition of Afrikaans in South Africa and the continuing absence of such a process with respect to 'Flemish' in Flanders. ; SCOPUS: ar.j ; info:eu-repo/semantics/published

In the past years, Dutch citizens have experimented with various kinds of innovations to organize the collective production of renewable energy, including shared wind power and solar PV installations. Most of these attempts failed mainly due to legal issues and tax rules. Yet, one model for solar PV on collective roofs was implemented more widely, namely the postcode rose (PCR, postcoderoos): a form of cooperative solar PV production within a set of adjacent postcode areas. Set within a broader transition perspective, this article studies the emergence and evolution of the PCR as an example of a successful social innovation in the energy transition, through an innovation biography and mapping of the evolution of the social and institutional network around the innovation. The various attempts for collective solar PV, with different degrees of success and uptake into the regime, present a key aspect of niche development, namely associational work (circulation and mobilization) focused on regime change. In conclusion, the innovation path of the PCR emphasizes the importance of the political and associational in the energy transition and in transition thinking.

This paper looks at the development of the Unified Workers' Central of Brazil (CUT) during the four consecutive Workers' Party (PT) governments, first under Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and later under Dilma Rousseff. The analysis draws on various aspects of the power resources approach, but focuses specifically on institutional power. The government found it politically difficult to implement a left-wing programme, due to the complex nature of the ruling coalition and its conservative opposition in the broader context of neo-liberal hegemony and financial globalisation. By continuing to establish dialogue with social movements, the PT governments stimulated forms of social participation in developing public policies, reinforcing existing institutions and creating new ones. By using its institutional power, the CUT was able to strengthen its participation in public institutions. There were hardly any substantial debates on labour or employment conducted without the CUT's participation. On the other hand, the privileged spaces in the labour arena did not achieve structural changes capable of redefining the country's development model and the standard of work regulation.

Abstract
Social networking sites (SNS) and social media (SM) have evolved into important methods of communication in modern society. A number of SM platforms are imageoriented sites such as Instagram, which provide tools to edit and post images of one's self in place of verbal communication. These tools are especially critical in the lives of younger generations who have been reared on technology. SM provides the ability to curate one's image and receive feedback in an almost instantaneous and customizable manner. In this two-stage, qualitative grounded theory study, a stage-one initial survey (n=208) indicated that nearly half of the respondents used dress as a communication tool when posting images on SM and that Instagram was the most used SNS. In stage-two, in-depth interviews were conducted with a sample of (n=15) undergraduate students to investigate participants' usage of Instagram, along with their self-proclaimed use of dress as a method of communication through images posted on the SNS. Results indicated that participants used dress as a tool to communicate aspects of experiences, feelings, lifestyles and beliefs when posting images on Instagram.

Limited research exists around the interrelationships between protest camps and marketing practices. In this article, we focus on the 2014 Hong Kong protest camps as a context where artistic work was innovatively developed and imaginatively promoted to draw global attention. Collecting and analysing empirical data from the Umbrella Movement, our findings explore the interrelationships between arts marketing technologies and the creativity and artistic expression of the protest camps so as to inform, update and rethink arts marketing theory itself. We discuss how protesters used public space to employ inventive methods of audience engagement, participation and co-creation of artwork, together with media art projects which aimed not only to promote their collective aims but also to educate and inform citizens. While some studies have already examined the function of arts marketing beyond traditional and established artistic institutions, our findings offer novel insights into the promotional techniques of protest art within the occupied space of a social movement. Finally, we suggest avenues for future research around the artwork of social movements that could highlight creative and political aspects of (arts) marketing theory.

The economic adjustment programmes for Ireland, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus were based on a range of legal measures and economic policy documents. In each programme, the concept of 'monitoring the impact of the programme measures on the vulnerable' was expressed, though in different formats. Based on research undertaken on the quarterly reviews compiled by the Troika missions to each of the four bail-out states, this article demonstrates that an inconsistent approach was taken to the monitoring of the impact of the programme measures on vulnerable groups and that statistical information was used in a haphazard manner. The legal consequences of this failure to adequately undertake statistical monitoring is examined in the context of challenges mounted to aspects of some of the bailout programmes before the European Court of Human Rights and the Committee of Social Rights. The article highlights how information concerning the impact on the vulnerable was accessible through the Union's longstanding commitment to provide statistical data through Eurostat and the specific availability of figures on social deprivation through the EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC).
