Die größten Nichtregierungsorganisationen in Jordanien sind die "Royal NGOs", d.h. Organisationen, die durch königliches Dekret errichtet und von einem weiblichen Mitglied der königlichen Familie geleitet werden. Mit ihren "Einkommen generierenden" Projekten - das bekannteste ist das "Bani Hamida Women's Weaving project" - fördern die "Royal NGOs" zwar die jordanische Handwerkskunst und das Ansehen des Handwerks in der jordanischen Gesellschaft, aber ihr Beitrag zum Empowerment der beschäftigten Menschen ist äußerst gering. Die Projekte, die keinen Profit bringen, werden als Wohltätigkeitsunternehmungen betrachtet, in denen die ArbeiterInnen als Leistungsempfänger ohne Arbeitnehmerrechte angesehen werden. (DÜI-Hns)
