Introduction: Constructions and Instrumentalization of the Past

Abstract

The article forms the introduction to a report book giving a survey of how history has been and is being used for political purposes in Eastern Europe and Russia.It deals with all sorts of battles over how to interpret imporatant events in the past of certain countries and how governments attempt to control the way the past is taught in schools.
