Epidemiology of security forces injuries during training for maintaining and restoring order ; Caractéristiques des blessures survenues dans le cadre de l'instruction opérationnelle des forces de la gendarmerie au maintien de l'ordre et à l'intervention professionnelle au Centre national d'entraînement des Forces de Gendarmerie : étude rétrospective sur 5 mois

Abstract

Background: recent social protests in France, confrontation risks of french overseas departments due to socio-poliyical divergence, but also the terrorist risk remind the importance of maintaining and restoring public order, security force professional intervention and military physical training. Methods: the aim of this observational monocentric retrospective study is to establish the prevalence of diseases and injuries due to the training during initiation, updating or validating internship concerning maintaining order and professional intervention within the The National Gendarmerie Forces Training Center (CNEFG) located in the Dordogne. Results: from October 1, 2019, to February 29, 2020, the 98th medical unit of French Military Health Service carried out 1,013 medical consultations, including 208 consultations for injuries during training (21%), corresponding to 221 acute traumas or decompensation of overuse injuries. The main accident-prone activities are respectively maintaining and restoring order (47%), daring trails (25%) and weapon-less control of the opponent (12%). The main injuries are lower-limb sprains (20%), upper-limb contusions (13%), acoustic traumas (12%) and upper-limb tendinopathies (10%). Twenty-seven patients (13%) had an X-ray and fourteen patients (7%) were transferred to a local emergency department.
