Protests are drivers of change but, at the same time, are also objects of change. The conditions under which protest emerges, the forms in which it is articulated and its potential impact may change in subtle ways or abruptly, with a big bang. The contributions in this edited volume focus on developments in post-unification Germany. How do protests impact on international politics and global economies? How do activists combine both online and offline protests in their campaigns? Does the profile of protesters change over time? Has protest become compartmentalised or are we witnessing the realignment of broader lines of conflict? The answers to these questions are unexpected and at times contradictory. With contribution byFelix Anderl, Regina Becker, Lisa Bleckmann, Sigrid Baringhorst, Priska Daphi, Nicole Deitelhoff; Annette Freyberg-Inan, Swen Hutter, Holger Janusch, Maren Kirchhoff, Melanie Kryst, Christian Lahusen, Nina Maria Merhaut, Volker Mittendorf, Oliver Nachtwey, Dieter Rink, Sieglinde Rosenberger, Dieter Rucht, Christian Scholl, Helen Schwenken, Simon Teune, Kathrin Voss, Lisa Villioth, Mundo Yang and Sabrina Zajak.
