Abstract

This book describes a Zimbabwean factory nearly three years after independence. The factory which the author has chosen to call 'Zimtex' to conceal its real identity is, in some respects, unique. It is a large textile factory, employing over 500 workers, and has been quoted on the Zimbabwean Stock Exchange for over three decades. Yet it is situated in the countryside surrounded by commercial farmland, over twelve kilometres from the nearest town. In this respect it is not dissimilar to many mining enterprises in Zimbabwe
