Abstract

Review of the books "Driven by growth: political change in the Asia-Pacific region" edited by J. Morley and "Southeast Asia in the new international era" by C. Neher. These books deal with the political implications of sustained economic growth. Girling notes that while Neher is more concerned with the diversity of the countries in Southeast Asia, "Driven by the growth" suggests a common pattern of development, in East as well as Southeast Asia.
