Abstract

Following the Tiananmen Incident, the collapse of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe and the disintegration of the USSR made the Chinese communists worry at their future. The author discusses Deng Xiaoping's support for more economic reforms and the power struggle within the Chinese communist Party between supporters and opponents of Deng's reform policies. (DÜI-Sen)
