In: Orient: deutsche Zeitschrift für Politik, Wirtschaft und Kultur des Orients, Band 52, Heft 4, S. 48-54
Abstract
"The use of metaphor is one of the basic characteristics of both language and Politics. Metaphors provide frames that help to understand and evaluate events, position the speaker and his/her audience towards these events and imply options for political action. Furthermore, they are an indicator for the way in which meaning is established and contested in public discourse. This article deals with the use of metaphor in the media discourse on 9/11. It examines reporting on the attacks and their tenth anniversary, and looks at the use of '9/11' as a metaphor in other contexts." (author's abstract)
