The new global genres of "chick lit" and "teen lit" in the early twenty-first century led to the rise of a new generation of Muslim women writers in Indonesia. They gained public attention, particularly from teen readers, by publishing Islamic novels and popular pesantren (Islamic boarding school) novels. Focusing on two online platforms for digital literature, the Komunitas Bisa Menulis and Halaqah 1001 Aksara as case studies, this study employs online observation of the platforms, content analysis of the works, and interviews with three young Muslim women writers from the pesantren tradition to explore their experiences of embracing socio-religious changes and technological developments in Indonesia. The article aims to answer three questions. Firstly, how and why do Muslim women writers from the pesantren tradition choose to publish their works on online platforms? Secondly, what are the predominant themes, genres and ideological messages present in their writing? And finally, to what extent do these platforms benefit women in developing their professionalism?
Produced by the North American Anarchist Studies Network (NAASN), and edited by Jeff Shantz and P. J. Lilley, this volume comprises papers from NAASN's 5th Conference [La Red Norteamericana de Estudios Anarquistas / Le Réseau Nord-Américain d'études Anarchistes]. Anarchism is experiencing a remarkable resurgence in the new millennium. Not only active in the streets across Turtle Island, growing interest in anarchist scholarship is perhaps unprecedented. This is reflected in the development of the North American Anarchist Studies Network (NAASN). Drawn from papers presented at the fifth NAASN conference in Surrey (on Coast Salish Territories), this collection shows the vitality of contemporary anarchist research and writing

This book analyzes the changing portrayal of GDR literature in German Gymnasium textbooks 1985-2015. Addressing the need for textbook research to broaden its focus from GDR history to GDR literature, the author presents case studies of well-known GDR authors (Bertolt Brecht, Johannes R. Becher, Anna Seghers, Wolf Biermann, and Christa Wolf), each examining a particular aspect of the societal discourse about GDR literature and the tension between (literary) text and (historical) context. Taken together, the case studies reveal the frequently underestimated power of ideology in literature textbooks. They also show how attempts to package these authors into simplified categories ultimately reveal the profound complexities of the GDR literary legacy. By examining the clear tension between literature and politics in textbooks and curricula, the author demonstrates how ideological messages are transmitted in all textbooks, as well as the importance of attending to overt and covert ideology.

The article analyzes the 17th General Election of Thailand by focussing on four major aspects: first, it investigates the factors that led to the dissolution of Parliament; secondly, it reviews the election campaign (that is, changes and realignments in the party system, patterns of candidate recruitment, campaign tactics, campaign issues, election spending and party platforms); thirdly, it presents and interprets the election results before, finally, an attempt is made to assess the election results in the light of Thailand longer term political development. The article argues that the election signified strengthening of the political right and conservative forces. Moreover, in the light of the surprising resignation of Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda and the increased fragmentation of political parties in the Parliament, power realignments are almost certain in the near future. The election thus inaugurated an area of greater political uncertainties than hitherto. A first indication into which direction the power realignments will move, will be the forthcoming annual October military reshuffle.

"This volume of studies in honor of Stephen G. Nichols by colleagues, friends, and students is called Revealing New Perspectives because that is what his career exemplifies. As both the verb and adjective forms suggest, Steve has undeniably changed the course of medieval studies in ways which have had a global impact that continues to be profound. He has always been committed to not only contextualizing the intellectual and artistic production of the past in which a work was created, but to considering it also according to the current theoretical optics of our time, since each age has its own set of aesthetic and cultural realities and expectations. The contributions to this volume by sixteen distinguished medievalists are divided into the five sections of Visuals, Lyric, Philology, Alterity, and "Rewritings. While it can, of course, be argued that each essay partakes of more than one of these categories, they have been globally organized into the category that predominates in their articulation"--
