The undeniable presence of violence against women within our American societies and contemporary Ecuador is one of the theoretical reasons that justify this work. But beyond any theoretical construct, motivates the present approach, the work of a project like S.O.S Women. Defined by its social proxies in favor of battered women. For its undeniable positioning in favor of seeking and finding social, economic, political and cultural alternatives for its women, the women of our Ecuador. It is in virtue of such aspects that the present work is projected, from a defined social problem, to a coordinated set of practical actions that contribute to solve this problem. S.O.S Women are an axiological paradigm that we all dream is enthroned as a daily reality in our lands of America, in our world. The book aims to show that the deterministic vision embodied in conventional economic modelling is neither consistent with nor supported by the state of the art in mathematics, logic, and physical science. DeCanio recognizes that economic agents are intrinsically free and somewhat unpredictable, which is essential for economic and social theory.

A critique of new social movement (NSM) theories, based on an extensive review of NSM & other literature. It is suggested that NSM theorists have created & maintained a false distinction between pre- & post-WWII social movements by oversimplifying the histories of the movements of women, workers, racial & ethnic minorities, pacifists, & environmentalists. The NSM argument that recent movements were the first to organize around issues of identity is disputed with evidence from such turn-of-the-century leaders as W. E. B. DuBois & Marcus Garvey. Furthermore, the connections between changing post-WWII social conditions & the NSMs are problematic. Important continuities between the historical eras are cited & attention is drawn to movement cycles in an attempt to formulate a theory better oriented toward furthering the goals of social movements. This article examines the contemporary disciplinary claims that the 'Second Debate' in international theory was partial and incomplete. Developing the view that the debate exclusively concerned positivist methods, not the status and merits of social scientific inquiry in international relations theory (IR) more broadly, the article advances an understanding of how contemporary 'social scientific' IR has begun to integrate historicist and generalising claims in a single theoretical framework. Moreover, the article seeks to transcend the assumption of incommensurability between scientific and historical frames of inquiry that characterised the idea of scientific inquiry in the Second Debate, and does this through an intellectual history of arguments for a 'science of society'. The article shows how the emergence of non-positivist alternatives entails the development of abstractions and limited generalisations based on 'mechanismic explanation', particularly suitable for the development of middle-range theorising in IR. Overall, we argue that one important implication of the named methodological discussion is the reinforcing of the place of historical sociological analysis at the centre stage of international theory.

The article explores the formation and development of political science as an academic discipline and applied specialty at Belarusian State University. The development of the specialty "Political Science" ("Politology") at BSU, and specificities of training specialists as "Political Scientist–Lawyer," are key themes. We show that this qualification ensured the professionalization of the teaching of political science in Belarus and aimed at solving domestic and foreign policy issues of the Belarusian state and the political system as a whole. The training of specialists in political and legal activities facilitated the formation of skills of analytical support for government bodies to solvepressing issues. The development of the Political Science Department of the Faculty of Law at BSU focused on problems of public policy and administration. The main directions of the political research included comprehension of a number traditional and modern issues, which the Belarusian political science faces, injcluding: the problem of the correlation between the universal and the unique in the development of political science; dialectical comprehension of the political and administrative components in public administration, of domestic and foreign policy processes, "erosion of state sovereignty," "softening of border regimes," versus strengthening the sovereign state, protecting its security, and ideological substantiation of the values of national-state development; internal political processes consideration through the prism of globalization and the digital transformation; identification of mechanisms for the formation of political problems, their setting on the "policy agenda," of mechanisms for the transformation of the social issues into political, the struggle for the production and control of information; research of the normative value systems formation; rethinking democracy, democratic activity and mechanisms for legitimizing power; identification of "points of inclusion" of ethical and regional issues in politics. The current trend in the Political Science development in Belarus is the transition from disciplinary isolation to interdisciplinary synthesis.
