"The Third Mexican Provincial Council, celebrated in 1585, has always been considered a cornerstone of the canonical law of Spanish America, both with regard to its content and the long period and vast territory in which it was in force. New possibilities of research had been made possible due to the publication of the working manuscripts in recent years, enabling a better understanding of the juridical work produced by the bishops. Given these new materials, the author has delved deeper into the drafting processes carried out by the provincial council.
Taking a close look at the reports sent to the council, the theological and juridical treaties, and other conciliar and synodal legislation, along with the consultations to jurists and theologians, the author has identified different processes of drafting of the conciliar decrees.
The result of this research allows us to relocate the authorship of the conciliar decrees to the Mexican episcopate as well as establish the degree of their originality. Locality of the law and its significance in the legal order in force at that time is one of the characteristics of the body of decrees promulgated at the Third Mexican Provincial Council."

This article compares the legislation promulgated by the Synod of Granada (1572) and the Third Mexican Provincial Council (1585) regarding procedural canonical law. Diego Romano, bishop of Puebla, served as a vehicle between the Spanish and Mexican Assemblies, and he was clearly inspired by the former when drafting the latter. The article pays attention to the level of appropriation and via a comparison of the texts addresses the question whether it is possible to say that Iberian procedural law was copied by the prelate.

L'auteur amorce son article par un examen de l'hypothèse de Maurice Pinard selon laquelle la prédominance d'un parti est une condition nécessaire à la montée de tiers partis. Il détecte certaines carences dans la méthodologie de Pinard, en particulier en ce qui a trait à son échantillon d'élections ainsi qu'a sa mesure de la prédominance d'un parti. Il suggère que la prédominance électorate devrait être mesurée à l'aide d'indices multiples.La théorie pinardienne est vérifiée a l'aide de nouveaux tests dont la plupart en infirment la validité. L'auteur fait cependant observer que l'hypothèse correspond généralement aux connaissances que nous avons du comportement électoral au Canada. Il lui semble done que la prédominance, bien que pertinente à la croissance des tiers partis, n'est pas un facteur déterminant.L'auteur tente ensuite d'interpréter la montée des tiers partis dans les provinces canadiennes à l'aide du schéma d'analyse selon la valeur additive (value-added scheme) de Smelser. Il fait valoir que Pinard — de même que toutes les études sur le comportement électoral – n'accorde pas suffisamment d'attention à deux composantes du comportement collectif: la mobilisation et le contrôle social. Il fait done un bref plaidoyer en faveur d'une réorientation des recherches sur le comportement électoral.

In 1767, Society of Jesus was banished by the catholic Hispanic Monarchy. The reason arose from the disagreement with the interventionist politic of the Spanish Crown in ecclesiastical matters. In the New Spain, the arguments against Jesuit Fathers were increased greatly by the Enlightenment supporters, who also wanted to remove the devotions spread by the Society of Jesus. The most harmed devotion was the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which exerted such a popular influence that it affected the traditional iconography. ; La oposición manifiesta de la Compañía de Jesús contra el sistema regalista de la católica Monarquía Hispánica culminaría con el ostracismo de la congregación en 1767. Among Mexican Americans, generational differences in education do not fit with assimilation theory's predictions of significant improvement from the second to third generation; instead, education for third generation remains similar to the second generation and falls behind that of non-Hispanic whites. Scholars have not examined this educational gap for recent cohorts, nor have they considered a wide range of economic outcomes by generation. Using a nationally representative sample of young adults from the National Educational Longitudinal Survey, we examine various educational and economic outcomes among second- and third-generation Mexican Americans and compare it to whites and blacks. We find that third-generation Mexican Americans have similar outcomes to the second generation and lower education and economic levels than whites and blacks, even when controlling for key factors. Our findings reveal limitations to assimilation theory and suggest that the persistent low status of third-generation Mexican Americans may be largely due to their racialization. These findings coupled with prior research on Mexican Americans point to a consistent pattern of third generation disadvantage, which stands in contrast to second generation advantage.
